She gazed at the house before knocking, with one had the other rubbing lightly on the right side of her neck. Less than a week ago, she'd allowed her master... former master to feed off of her when he'd seemed sick. A small favor in return for all he'd done. Strange how things changed, taking a deep breath the human waited patiently in front of the door.[/ul] [[OCC: Sorry it is so short, I gotta run to dance class ^^]]

Elliot's emerald eyes gazed towards the clock. It was still early and it may be another hour or so before the female arrives at his abode. Why on earth he even decided to take Alice in was beyond him. Must be the fact that he really needed help in keeping this apartment clean and also guarding it while he was away. Then there were times he'll need to feed but he wasn't the sort of male who would take immediately. No, she'll be a last resort when other sources fail him.
It was then he heard the door knock. Must be her. With a deep breath and a long exhale after, the vampire opened the door. Ah, there she was and quite a nervous wreck! What was she afraid of? He wouldn't strike a woman without cause. "Come in, Alice." He said gently, his voice calm and smooth. Once she was inside he closed the door and locked it behind him. That might have given her the wrong idea so he chose to explain, "I want you to know that while we or you are here or while both of us are out, the door must remain locked. This isn't a safe part of town but it was all I could afford with my job."
The male then nodded towards the small hallway and lead her towards the back room where she'll be staying. It was a simple sized room but good enough for any woman in this era. "Dinner will be ready in a few minutes. You can stay in here or sit on the sofa in the living room if you wish. I have Direct TV."
With that he exited her room and slipped into the kitchen. Hopefully he didn't frighten the poor thing in any manner.

. Alice glanced at the room, before placing her stuff at the foot of her bed. She blinked at him, looking confused, normally the girl sat and did more recreational things. Watching TV for some reason had never much appealed to her, something about fantasy worlds she supposed. Since fantasy seemed to be such a funny thing to her, since the world she lived in other humans believed to be non-existent. Watching as he disappeared, Alice moved over to her bag, taking out items and moving them to where they belonged. Once all her clothing was organized, she pulled out several books and placed them next to her bed ,before moving her art supplies and music stuff under her bed. Taking her sketch book, she moved quietly to the kitchen and seated herself, watching Elliot silently and curiously. Her pencil moved across an open page as she sketched a picture of him. It was something she always did when she met a new person, a routine so to speak, it was easy for her, something that calmed her, though so far Alice decided she liked her new master, he seemed nice enough.[/ul]

Elliot had been trying to avoid getting looks from a few people by buying human food and actually cooking it. As a vampire, he could eat human food at times but his body got no nutrition from it. Blood was what he needed yet at the same time it was necessary to hide what he was. However, if he buys red meat, he can get enough necessities from the blood in them to last for at least two days. It doesn't always work though.
It was then he felt a presence enter the room. Ah, so it was Alice with a pad and pencil. An artist? Lovely. Looks like they had something in common. Elliot had done a lot of charcoal drawings throughout his life and took great pleasure in such things. Many of his works were stored away in his closet down the hall along with his own supplies.
"How long have you been drawing?" he asked. Maybe he can offer her a few lessons, over three hundred years worth!

As she spoke, she stumbled over her words, something that was common if she spoke about the past, or, often if she even spoke at all. Though as it turned out her foster parents had been right, Art was one of the few things that she took the time to enjoy, since she didn't get along with humans, and held a certain hatred for them. Alice paused once more in her drawing, and glanced up at him from behind the curtain of pink and black hair. "Why do you ask?"[/ul]

Elliot turned towards the human after she gave a response. Wow she was timid. Did she expect him to be a cruel male? "Sixteen years? That's a good while. I'm sure you've gotten pretty good." The red meat in the oven will be a while longer yet so he decided to take a seat across from Alice. His expression was gentle, understanding. "I ask because I did a lot of charcoal drawings throughout my life. It was a passion of mine when I was just a child. It was a couple hundred years ago, back when such things weren't welcomed as a job."
The male heaved a sigh and glanced towards the clock one more time. Dinner will be ready in about fifteen minutes or so. It was then his cellphone went off. "One moment, Alice." He snapped the device open, "Yes...?" Elliot left the table at this point and stood in the living room, listening to what the person over the line was saying.
"You serious? Poor thing...okay...you want me to come to the lab tomorrow night to pick up the results from the autopsy?...Alright...any evidence found against the killer? None?...puncture marks in the neck? Her body was drained? ...Great...another psychotic freak. I'll look into this as soon as possible. Okay. See ya." He shut off his cellphone and returned to the table.
"Sorry about that. I'm the District Attorney for the nearby police station...so...tell me a few things about yourself."

They had something in common? He was an artist just as she was, as her former master had been? That was comforting on some level, and made the girl feel slightly more at ease. The scent of cooking meat floated to the girls nose, as she made a face, obviously he'd not been told about her eating habits. She'd always been a vegetarian, it was how she'd been raised, and Kyle had enjoyed the taste of pure blood untainted by all the things they put into modern foods, so Alice had never sought to change. Watching curiously as he left the room, she nodded when he returned. A distract attorney? That as an interesting choice in job choices, if she hadn't been taken in by a vampire and propperly taken care of and trained to help them, she supposed she'd have gone into art. "...Not r-really much t-to say... I-I've been working for vampires for seven years, a-actually o-only one vampire. I'm a-a quick learner, a vegetarian and I c-can do just about any tasks around the home. I e-enjoy reading a-and the arts, music, art, even singing... a bit." Alice was a bit at a loss for what to say, she'd didn't speak of the past, finding it irrelevant, and refusing to be one of those people who lived in their memories. Besides it could be all very painful, and there wasn't all that much about her that people were interesting in knowing. She tilted her head to the side, a look of curiosity in her amber eyes, "If you don't mind me asking, I'm curious about you as well."[/ul]

She gained some confidence in that one sentence. That's good. Perhaps over time she will grow to trust him. Elliot nodded at the female once she started speaking but then froze when she said something he didn't expect. Vegetarian? Thank goodness he had back up plans for this sort of thing.
"I'm so sorry, Alice. I wish I knew. Hang on, I have a few salad packs and veggie patties. I have a few companions who are vegetarian." The male backed out of his seat and opened up the freezer, "I also have vegetarian pasta too. Made it over the weekend so it's still fresh."
The pasta actually sounded wonderful and what's surprising is how well it tasted. The sauce was poured into a pan and he reached into cabinets for noodles. "Well. I'm close to three hundred years old now. When I was a child I was raised on a farm but gradually got into the upper class. It was then I got into charcoal drawing but I had to join the military for my family.
I was in a bar one night, got drunk and got bitten by a vampire. Here I am now." Where were those noodles?

?" she spoke softly, but by no means timidly, more like hesitantly, as if she was unsure about something, "Than I feel obliged to let you know... I have been l-labeled as a bit m-mentally unstable... not in any w-weird ways. I... I, I just... sometimes I regress to a state of mind that can, can cause me to be a bit strange... It rarely lasts long, except when it rains."Her checks had turned pink as her hair, as she spoke about something that obviously made her a bit uncomfortable. Her fits were difficult to explain to someone who'd never seen them occur, but they never lasted long, and Alice, herself rarely remembered them after the event. Alice moved to stand, not used to be idle for long, standing a few feet away, she shifted, messing with the mood ring on her middle finger. "I-is there something I can help you with?"[/ul]

Hot water was poured into a pan, the stove turned on, "They sent me a few things but nothing about your eating habits unfortunately. In fact, the file sent to me was very limited in information. Only gave me a photo of you and some of your history with other vampires. That's about it." Elliot poured the noodles into the now boiling water along with olive oil. It will keep the water from boiling over if kept at a good temperature. Now to return to speaking to Alice.
"I was informed about your mental instability so don't worry about it, Alice. You're safe here, but I will need to teach you some self defense to be on the safe side. You'll never know what will happen." The male took his seat before her once more and folded his arms on the table. "It's basic things really, easy to memorize and if taught enough, easy to execute in dire situations. It only involves pinching nerves on certain parts of the body. The person won't be harmed and neither will you."
Call him paranoid, he wouldn't care. Elliot had witnessed mankind change over the years and it has gotten more and more dangerous with each generation. Now Elliot had no choice but to find means to defend himself. Even he carried a taser yet rarely used it. Why? He knew how to defend himself with just fists...and his vampiric abilities were on his side...

" Alice spoke a bit easier now that her anxiety levels had gone down. Actually though she was sort of lying, she'd found she had a fondness for knives, since she easy wielded them in the kitchen, " Normally I do learn quickly but... in the subject of self defense... never had much luck there." It was true, her last master had tried to teach her... and it had failed horrible when she'd ended up falling over something, and fracturing her arm. Painful? Most definitely, not something she really wanted to go through again, her trying stuff like that was usually a fairly bad idea. Dance was the best she could manage, and Alice still managed to sprain her ankle learning that. Physical activity and her were a bad pairing, she preferred to cook and clean and the like.[/ul]

Elliot gave her a small grin, careful to hide his ivory incisors, "Don't worry, Alice. This form of self defense is the easiest thing to do. It only involved simply moving out of the way from a punch or kick, grabbing an arm, lifting it up slightly and pinching some skin. There's other methods but I'll only teach it one bit at a time. First you need to get adjusted to this new life." That was a major part of her development. Her surroundings need to eventually be familiar before moving forward with this.
It was then his sharp hearing picked up the sound of bubbling water. Ah, the noodles are almost ready for the pasta. If that's the case, looks like he'll have to put the sauce on the stove as well. It took only about three or four minutes to get a spaghetti-like sauce to a good temperature. By this time the noodles were good and soft so the heat was turned off.
"How much do you want?" he asked.

Her tone was flat, to show no mater how amusing what she'd said was, that she was being perfectly serious. It was dangerous for her to practice remotely near anything, either she got injured or someone or something else did. As for adjusting... well that would take her a while, seven years and then bam, change, it was a lot to take in. But so far she wasn't too unhappy with the change she was sure of that. He moved to the food, and she watched him, shrugging indifferently as he asked her how much food she wanted. "I don't really know, but then again it doesn't really matter... I-I don't eat all that much." It was the truth, it wasn't that Ali was all hat picky about what she ate, but that she simply didn't eat much at ll. Nothing more than several bites, it was bad for her, she knew that, and on more than one occasion she'd collapsed from sheer exhaustion. It only really occurred from time to time, when she was depressed or simply didn't feel like eating anything, like now for instance. She was peculiar that way.[/ul]

Elliot nodded at Alice, "Don't worry. It's easy to clear things out of the room. If not we can always go to the dojang not too far away from here. I have friends there who taught me many tricks of the trade that saved my life. It may help you too." Since it seems Alice didn't eat too much, he only put on a small amount of pasta onto her plate. With that done he then put a few scoops of the pasta.
"Here you go." He placed the steaming meal in front of Alice and then proceeded to get himself some. While he was able to handle some human food, he cannot eat too much of it in one sitting. Right now he had less on his plate than Alice. Most of the time it's the male who eats more than the female but in this case...

She picked up her fork hesitantly before carefully and neatly biting into the food. Despite her unique and strange looks, she was almost obsessed with keeping things in order. It helped her mental state, at least that's Kris had always told her. The taste of the food awakened her hunger, one that had lain completely dormant. Smiling guiltily, the usually picky girl, ate rather quickly practically swallowing her food whole. "Thank you," she spoke easily now that food rested in her stomach, lessening her earlier fear and nausea. She noted the little food he had but said nothing, understanding the reason behind it. Kris had been the same way, eating just enough to seem normal to others. Giving him another slight smile, Alice's eyes moved about the room, carefully observing everything.[/ul]
