Alek casually puffed on his cig as they drove. Contently watching the pillar of smoke that rose in to the sky in the distance. He finished his smoke and tossed the butt out through the window. "There was a group of hunters around and perhaps even inside the building. I had expected this for a while. I couldn't leave any trace of my being there and I wanted to take out as many of those bastards as I could. I do there work for them, and they still hunt me like a common beast. They deserve no sympathy" he stated as he pulled out another cig and lit it. He held out the box to Ana offering her a similar pleasure. They were actually not to bad when they couldn't kill you. He should have expected the explosion the phase her the way that it did. He knew she was a noncombatant from the start. She may as very well be a normal human female, unfortunately she had been pulled into a life that didn't suit her and now he was allowing himself to be pulled into a role of looking out for this little runt. Much like Nikolai did for him, but he had no intention of getting attached or even training her. He didn't have the patience for teaching.

I couldn't leave any trace of my being there and I wanted to take out as many of those bastards as I could. I do their work for them, and they still hunt me like a common beast. They deserve no sympathy,” he explained. Anastasia glanced out her window to look at the smoldering mass. Hunters? Anastasia looked away and out the windshield as they got on a busier street, making her way to the mansion. She now recognized where she was and felt a little less lost. She had to sit perfectly straight to see over the wheel, as the Impala was a bit taller than the Miata she usually drove. However, it wasn’t entirely hard. “Oh. . . I hope it wasn’t my fault. . . ,” she murmured, turning onto another road and heading to the outskirts, out to where the mansion was. It was deep in the woods, but it wasn’t hidden. Unless you didn’t know how to follow a road, anyway. “I’m sorry I’m putting you through so much trouble. . . . I don't know why hunters seem to think we all need to die. . . we're not all monsters who just want to kill. . . .”

"your wrong" he stated without looking at her still keeping his attention on the cars behind of them. He didn't want to be followed if there was someone pursuing them he'd had to take them out before they get to where they were going. "We do all deserve to die.....but that doesn't mean that we should lay down and let them kill us now does it? I prefer to give my quarry a fighting chance if unless they are so dangerous that i have to take them out at a distance" he stated after finally being content with the fact that no one was following them. Since Ana ignored his offer of a cig, he replaced the packet in his pocket and fiddled with the radio a bit. It seemed that word of the explosion had already reached the news. A fleet of fire engines and police drove loudly past heading in the direction from whence they just came. He had to give it to them. They responded quicker than expected. He wondered if someone had called it in, and if so had they seen them leaving the warehouse just before the explosion. He doubted it. Anyone in that area probably wasn't doing right by the law. No one would call the cops.

“You’re wrong.” Anastasia looked away from the street to glance at Aleksei. Somehow she had predicted that he was going to say something like that. She lowered her head slightly but turned toward the street again. It had taken a little bit, but they were at the city limits by now. Anastasia wondered if her Novosi friend was there already, and looked at the clock on the dash board. Yeah, he would be. At least she wouldn’t be totally alone when Aleksei left her. “We do all deserve to die. . . but that doesn't mean that we should lay down and let them kill us now does it? I prefer to give my quarry a fighting chance if unless they are so dangerous that I have to take them out at a distance,” he continued a second later. Anastasia sighed and had to keep from hanging her head, or else she’d probably end up crashing into a tree. “I suppose you are right. . . . I can’t control myself. . . but just because I don’t mean or want to kill people doesn’t make anything I do better. . . does it?” Anastasia’s hand slipped down on the wheel and the car pulled a bit to the left before she righted it.
Anastasia let off on the gas and the car slowly started to roll to a stop. Tears welled in her eyes and she leaned her head against the wheel, an arm over her head. “I don’t want to hurt anymore people. What if I never learn to control myself? All those people. . . . I don’t want to do that. You say we shouldn’t lay down and let them kill us, but if I—if I deserve to die, why should I bother when it would keep so many other people alive?” It was hard to decipher what she was saying through the tears, but the point was clear. It took her a little while to compose herself again, and in the meantime the car started to drift backwards down the slight incline they had been working their way up. “I don’t—I don’t just want to give up, but I’m all alone. How—how can I—learn by myself? Everyone’s left me or—or died. I’m useless and a danger to society and I’m too selfish to just end it by myself because I’m afraid of—I’m afraid of what will happen when I die. I was perfectly happy as a human and he had to ruin it all!”
For a brief moment, her sorrow had turned into rage. She brought her fist down on the dash, cracking the glass that covered the clock and radio. Lifting her head, Anastasia looked at the crashed dash and wiped her tears away. Daktari had ruined her life the day he’d turned her. Anastasia remained unaware that the car was still moving backwards, and she leaned back against the seat and covered her eyes with her hands, rubbing them until they were dry and a tad swollen. She had to figure out this anger issue of hers. Had she not been so afraid of dying she would have never let Daktari turn her and told him to just kill her. He might as well have. She wasn’t the same anymore, and things could never go back to the way they had been. She was going to be done in eventually, and most likely it was by a hunter. “I’m sorry—I’m sorry. It’s—it’s been a hard couple of days. . . months. . . year, actually,” she muttered the quietly. “The bruises heal on the outside. . . but I’ll always wear them on the inside.” At this point she was just muttering nonsense to herself. The car jerked to a stop and Anastasia snapped forward on her seatbelt—the car had backed into a tree.

The crash into the tree wasn't so bad that Alek would worry about it. He didn't care about the car. It was just a car, payment in exchange for a favor. He looked at her, he wasn't used to such softness even in a woman. She said she was from Russia and she spoke Russian very well but, her mentality was clearly American. They weren't strong willed as people that grew up there. He saw it all the time even in Russian dominated slums in this city. America was making them soft. "Are you done?" he asked curiously once she finally stopped her sniveling. He didn't know who had coddle this girl to the point that she was useless even to herself, but she shouldn't expect pity from him. He wouldn't feel sorry for her, he wouldn't coddle her. She needed to suck it up and get over it, that or just give up but stop whining about life and it's unfairness.
"If you want to die so bad, I can do it for you, but if your only feeling sorry for yourself because you lost a friend you need to get over it. Your immortal it comes with the territory. You can't destroy yourself emotionally every time someone close is taken away or you won't last" he stated his word were not very comforting but they were true. He's seen the deaths of so many people. Some close some not so close, some he hated some he'd had like to know better. He treated them all the same like it was meant to be. Fate was something he believed in strongly. If you are meant to die then you die. Everything happened for a reason and even attempting to go agains't fate if simply the fate that fate has set out for you. "Shall we continue?" he asked gesturing towards the hill the had just rolled down from.

Anastasia’s head snapped toward the tiger and she gave him a nasty glare, the first sign that she wasn’t all timid. It probably wasn’t going to affect him all that much and it most likely wasn’t the scariest thing in the world, but it was something she didn’t do that often. She hadn’t expected any sort of comforting words from the man—okay, maybe a little bit—but she was starting to skip the levels of mourning and was on anger now. This whole time she had just been using Aleksei to cope with her phases, and though it probably wasn’t good taking her anger out on him, she wasn’t thinking straight. “No! This isn’t what I wanted! I’m not as old as you are, I’m not cold blooded murderer, I actually care about my friends! I don’t want to get used to losing the people I love, and I sure as hell don’t want to wind up bitter and alone like you!” she snarled, her eyes flashing gold for a second as her anger peaked. Snapping her seat belt off, Anastasia climbed out of the car and started to walk up the hill. “You can go now! I’m just going to walk!” It was a completely out of character thing for the demure girl to do, but she was upset and she was angry, and Anastasia didn’t have very good control of herself when she was angry.

Alek listened to her outburst without feigning an ounce of concern. She spoke of him being bitter and alone, and it may have been true that he was alone and had been for a long time, but he wasn't bitter. He didn't have time to be. Ana climbed out of the car and proclaimed that she would walk the rest of the way and that he could leave. That was fine with him. He never wanted to be her babysitter. The only reason he had bother coming with her, was the fact that somewhere he felt a feeling he hadn't in a long time a connection. Like they had endured similar things and knew how the other felt. They coped differently, but it was there.
Alek stepped out of the car and watched as she walked up the hill. He sat on the hood and waited. He wondered if she was being serious or if she was trying to get some sort of emotional response out of him. It seemed like she had been trying for a while. Poking and prodding at his humanity in an attempt to get it to react. Thing was he wasn't entirely sure how to be human. In the wild animals knew that death was inevitable. As such when one died. It was simply that they were no more. There was no crying, no sadness. Simply acceptance that this was the way things were. It was the mentality he carried naturally. Only once had he ever felt true pain at losing anything.

He didn’t come after her or tell her to stop being an idiot. Anastasia couldn’t help but glance over her shoulder at him. Then she looked away quickly and just kept walking. She was being quite serious. The mansion was like another mile and a half away—maybe more—but she didn’t care. She was upset and wasn’t getting what she wanted from this man, which was comfort. It was the last thing she should have expected from someone who had wanted to kill her several hours ago. What had she been thinking? Had she really been that desperate to hear that it was going to be okay and that she was going to pull through? Had she really wanted a “she’s in a better place now” speech? Yes. Desperate might not have been the right word, but she had wanted it a lot, and Aleksei just happened to be the first person to happen upon her directly after Kyla’s death. How long had Anastasia just sat with her friend after she’d stopped breathing? Anastasia wanted to turn back and take the car, but she didn’t want to be near that man at the moment. What did he know about her? Where did he get off telling her how to cope with her friend’s death? She snorted under her breath and kept walking, tripping once. Awesome. She landed heavily on the ground in a heap, then looked back at what had tripped her. . . just a root. Anastasia blushed a deep crimson and then just sat there stubbornly, like she had meant to fall.

Alek rubbed the back his neck after she fell. He wondered silently how she had managed to survive this long, heck she couldn't even walk without falling. From his point of view she was actually pretty pathetic. Well she made her choice didn't she? He stood up and walked over to the driver side of the car and opened the door. He adjusted the seat as far back as it could go and sat down. He pulled the car forward away from the tree then stepped out and checked the damage. It wasn't bad, not that he cared about the car. He just didn't want it to be something that would be overly noticed. Alek checked to make sure the trunk wasn't going to open as he drove, then got back into the car and started to bring it around. He started to drive in the direction that they had come but didn't get more than a few meters before he stopped.
He peered at her in the rear view. Half his mind telling him to drive away, the other half urged him to at the very least see her safely to her destination. After all it would be his fault if the place she was going to be staying wasn't secure enough to contain her when she transformed. That could cause human deaths and it was his duty to prevent those. Alek sighed and turned the car around driving back, and pulling to a stop besides her. He rolled down the window and looked at her for a moment. "am I going to have to carry you?" He asked it was probably a joke but there was a hint of seriousness in his tone, but he was Russian his tone rarely sounded not serious.

Tears of frustration and anger and embarrassment blurred Anastasia’s sight as she sat there after falling. She was embarrassed that she had fallen, and angry because she was in this situation, and frustrated that there was no one there to help her. She sat there, and then looked over her shoulder when Aleksei started the car and started to move the car. So he was leaving. Well, good riddance. She looked sharply away from the car, deciding to wait until he was gone to get up and finish walking. However, the car started to get closer, though, and she looked back a little fearfully, expecting Aleksei to attempt to run her over. However, he pulled up next to her and then rolled down the window to look at her. Anastasia looked up at him with a slight glower as he spoke to her. “Am I going to have to carry you?” he asked her, sounding actually quite serious. Anastasia looked away from him and glared at the root that had tripped her when she’d stormed off angrily. “No,” she retorted stubbornly, crossing her arms over her chest. “Just go away. I know you don’t want to have anything to do with me.”

Alek sighed at her response. "We can do this song and dance all day, but we both know your going to get into car simply because like you said. You don't want to end up alone and bitter like me. Hyenas are back animals so I can sort of understand why you would feel that way." he stated as he waited for her to get into the car like they both knew she would. This act that she was putting on wasn't fooling him. Unlike canines felines like tigers lacked the pack mentality. Lions were really the only ones that shared such a trait with their canine counter parts. While most others were inherently loners by nature. This fact made Alek by far less social than the typical people Ana was probably use to, but at least if it meant anything he had her well being in mind and was somewhat trying to make sure he got her home safely. Whether she thought so or not was a different story as evident by her comment of him wanting nothing to do with her. Which could be correct, but not completely so because if it were a fact he'd have probably just blown up the warehouse while she was still in it.

Hyenas are back animals so I can sort of understand why you would feel that way,” Aleksei said, surprisingly sounding like he wasn’t running out of patience at all. Anastasia dropped her eyes to the side and lowered her head slightly, hunching her shoulders and adopting her closed stance again as she sat there. She really didn’t want to walk two more miles or more—yes, she kept changing the number of miles it was in her head because she didn’t actually know how much further they were. All the trees looked the same—and technically she had just gotten what she had wanted, and it was some sort of positive reaction from the tiger she had been spending time with. Sighing, Anastasia slowly pushed herself to her feet and brushed some dirt off the seat of her pants and knees, then opened the passenger side door and climbed in, buckling up and sinking into her chair. “Just follow this road. . . you can’t miss it. . . ,” she directed quietly.

Alek waited til she was in the car then put in gear and proceed up the road in the direction she had indicated. He hadn't seen another car or house or even a person for a while. Wherever they were going it seemed pretty secluded. This was obviously a good thing, it meant that the chances of human casualties because of Ana's transformation would be slim to none existent. However she didn't seem like the type of person that would be at home this far from civilization. She had an obvious need for attachment, It she wasn't being social, she was miserable. It was what he gained about her personality over the short time they had been together. This meant that the only way she would live in such a place was if she had several people with her. Assuming they were immortal like her. He considered the possibility that there may a hostile situation or even a trap awaiting his arrival.
Alek was sure that Ana could not hurt a fly, but typically people like her tend to associate with people opposite to themselves. It gave them balance to have someone that could fill the holes in their personality. If that was the case then whoever ended up being at their destination could be very dangerous. "you....live alone?" he asked curiously in an attempt to get a feel for the situation. It wasn't that he wasn't prepared for the worse, because he always was,but it never hurt o have an idea what to expect before hand.

Anastasia didn’t look at Aleksei when he started to pull the car ahead and finish seeing her home. Instead, her gaze was focused out the window, watching the trees go by. What was she going to do now? She obviously couldn’t leave the mansion until she had gotten a good grip on her transformations, but without Kyla there, the place was going to be completely empty. The condo she had owned when she was human was in her name still, so she could move closer to the city when she finally got used to shifting and not wanting to kill everyone, but couldn’t she move in now and just go and stay at the mansion during the moons? There were all kinds of wildlife in the wounds around the mansion so if she got out of the yard, there would be deer and moose or whatever the hell else to keep her occupied. But between the days that the Novosi came to check on things, she would be incredibly lonely when she was at home.
“You. . . live alone?” the tiger asked, making Anastasia glance at him. Her face fell and she stared down at her hands, sighing. Suddenly she remembered she was just in a shirt and a pair of shoes. . . . “I do now,” she replied solemnly, playing with the hem of her—or his, whatever—shirt. “Vampires come and go now and again, but there’ll only be one there today.” She hoped that wouldn’t be too big a threat. Anastasia wondered if she should be taking him to the mansion at all, showing him where it was. . . . Daktari would have been extremely angry with her. She had to shake her head and remind herself that Daktari was dead and that she didn’t have to worry about anymore punishment from him. The mansion was hers now and she could bring whoever she wanted to the place.

Vampires? The word struck a cord with Aleksei. If there was anything in the world he could truly consider an object of his hate it would be vampires, after all it was they that took his father from him. Weres he could find reasons to allow to continue living, especially if they could control themselves. Vampires on the other hand got no such courtesy. However if this vampire didn't make a move he'd not act against them this once. Besides it was daylight. He had the strategic advantage. Vampires were limited by there weakness to the sun. No matter how old they became that weakness didn't change. Were were only limited by the moon phases until they were old enough to change at will, at that point it didn't matter whether it was day or night a were could bring out his true form and fight unrestrained whether it be day or night full moon or new moon. "you shouldn't associate with vampires...you can't trust them" he responded matter of factually as he continued to drive in the direction she had indicated wondering how much longer it was until they got to this place.
