. Moving away from the edge she folded her arms, sleeves of her shirt hanging over her arms. Great... now she was bored, tilting her head up she purred in satisfaction as the rain tumbled down blurring her dark makeup.[/ul]

of the elements, it was definitely water that was his favorite. fire was harsher than all others; it gave light, yes, but it was constant light, burning light, and could become fiercesome to any in a second...then there was earth. sturdy, nice and strong, but it was just boring. then the air - it was invisible, hardly able to be noticed. liam was like the air sometimes - he was like the fire too, and like the earth as well. but it was the water he was like more than any other. graceful, fluid, beautifully moving, constantly in motion...it flowed better than any element, and it was the one he felt safest with. his body moved gracefully as the rain poured down on him as he walked through the streets of chinatown, smiling as the drops hit his face, his clothing, every inch of bare skin there was...if he wanted to, he could've transformed quite easily and flown through the air as a graceful swan, but he was in a public area tonight; he'd have to wait until he was in a more private place. say central park; the trees would hide his transformation well.
he knew how much a fool he looked to the humans who peered out the windows of the shops and restaurants and homes of this section of new york, but he didn't care; long ago he had learned not to care what the humans thought. they could be amused and amazed by you, or disgusted and wanting you dead; it didn't matter to liam. he was a swan, one of the most beautiful animals on earth - and he may be a bit biased on that that, but who was to say so? if you could change into a glorious bird, with soft, downy, glistening white feathers and be as graceful as could be...well, it was obvious that you would like that bird better than any other animal in the world. everyone had their favorites, after all; even the teachers, who said they didn't pick "favorites" out of their classes. unless they had all extremely bad classes. then it was perfectly fine to not have a favorite student.
back to the point though - liam's body moved easily through the streets, feeling calm. he didn't expect to be hopped by a vampire or werewolf or any other creature tonight; just to be able to walk through the shower in peace, and then return to his apartment and continue in his attempt to learn to play the violin, one of the most challenging instruments he had come across yet. he moved a hand through his soaking wet hair, and considered changing again; it couldn't hurt much. he'd just have to find a dark alley to do it in. he closed his eyes to allow a few moments of though, then changed direction and walked into the closest alley. he bit his lip, wondering if it was a better idea to change in the alleys; he decided against it, and grasped the fire escape of the closest building. he pulled himself up it easily onto the rooftop in an easy minute, and was about to allow his body form into a swan when he noticed her; a girl standing a few feet away from the edge of the building. a small smile of greeting grew on his lips. "hello," he murmured softly. [/blockquote]

the air around him wasn't exactly easy to taste with his mouth or nose; the rain's scent was washing away most everything else. he'd never been very good at identifying things using a scent anyways; he usually relied on sight and sound. yet he caught a faint whiff of something from the girl...enough to tell him that she was not completely human, if at all human. his body tensed automatically; in the supernatural world, liam's type were most likely at the bottom of the scale, below the vampires who were no doubt at the top, and then the lycans and the other shape shifters who took the form of a carnivorous animal; only the humans were below the were-swans, and that was mainly because the were-swans were, well, were-swans. in other words, it was only because they could shapeshift and the humans could not, obviously.
her voice confirmed it; almost a low purr-like tone, and then there was her movement as she turned, and of course, the smile she'd given him. a were-cat type of species, no doubt. not as bad as a werewolf or a vampire, but still scary enough. hopefully with more control than a newborn; but why should he worry? surely she would've attacked him already. "my apologies," he said, the slightest hint of his french accent coming through with his voice. the accent he had from his birth-country had almost completely disappeared over the years, but a little tiny portion still remained through the american accent he now held after spending so many years living in the largest country of the western hemisphere. "i came up here to transform; i had no idea anyone else would be up here as well." it was obvious she was a shapeshifter; why bother keeping secrets about that? there were plenty of other things you could choose to lie about at this point in time.
he looked up again, the rain splashing onto his already cool face. his body shivered; his swan side wanted out. he closed his eyes and sighed; he'd have to wait only a bit longer, or so he hoped. "liam turner," he offered, giving his name, letting the words dissipate into the shower that was drenching the two. he glanced up at the moon; just barely past half-moon. so, half the pain and exhaustion of a new moon transformation...it wouldn't be that hard to switch quickly and then get away if need be.

"Do not fear me swan. I have no interest in harming you, I only hunt out of nessessity and unless you mean me harm... well you're fine."
at those words, liam's body instantly relaxed. good. he wasn't in any danger, and this girl was most definitely a shapeshifter like himself, meaning that he did not need to worry about having to find a different place to transform. or being eaten, for that matter. being eaten was always a bad thing. liam preferred to stay uneaten, believe it or not. anyways, liam nodded, biting his lip, before allowing a regular smile to return to his face. "thank you, tiger. i'm sure you understand my worries." his father had always told him to watch his back; and his father usually turned out to be right. were-swans were no doubt some of the easiest prey, save for humans and the regular animals who had only their instincts. usually when in the animal forms the shapeshifters relied on their instincts too, but liam preferred his human intelligence to his swan instincts. "i assure you that i do not mean you any harm; after all, what could i possibly do to you?" he laughed. it was true; he was helpless even now as he stood there.
"No need to appologize either, I'm not supposed to be here any more than you are. Ah, you're a lucky one then. Swans in New York? Not too unusual, a tiger on the roof tops? And they call the authorities and you find yourself in a zoo in less than an instant."
he nodded his head in agreement; he'd seen other swans before on these roofs, most of them just regular; he rarely ran into those of his own kind. a tiger, of course, would probably earn a tranquilizer shot and a cage at the new york city zoo; of course, the girl could probably escape that in an instant just by transforming into her human self. liam had never had the misfortune of being captured by any animal control officers or any people of that sort; swans usually managed to escape notice by them. that was probably one of the few advantages to being a were-swan; that escape was easy to do when you were such a harmless bird. his ears picked up her accent; irish? most likely. not that far from his home country. he'd been to ireland before, and he was planning to head to europe in a few weeks time, to help supply art for a museum in venice; perhaps he could stop by ireland on his way there. it couldn't hurt much.
"Really don't see many folk out and about in this sort of weather. You like the rain as well?"
he nodded again, closing his eyes and inhaling the scent of the rain as it washed over the streets. the plague of smog was in it, but he easily ignored it, focusing on the minerals and nutrients of the water that gave off a scent to him that many humans probably couldn't smell. "my favorite type of weather," he admitted. "it reminds me of lakes and ponds and such. i prefer water to most of the other elements in the world." [/blockquote]
