The normal during a busy night in New York - crowded streets, hoods, druggies, and, of course, people like Soda: run aways. Why not come to New York? There's probably thousands of jobs to choose from and hundreds of other people like each other, life'll be easy once everything's going again. Yeah, well... Soda didn't do that: she didn't find a job nor did she bother finding at least one friend that could help her survive in this madhouse. She was, you could say, a loner; but it was all true, though. She didn't deny that fact. As much as she was a liar, her identiy was something she didn't want to cover up.
It was windy, the moon out. Typical. A small girl sat on her skateboard on the streets, with her bag laying next to her. She had a box in front of her, hoping - not trying, because she sure wasn;t trying - to gather some loose change from simple pedestrians. She was slouching with some of her black hair falling in her face. But she didn't tuck it behind her ear and try and mix it again. Instead she left it alone and watched as more and more epople walked by. Her box had a few coins in them at the beginning, so maybe more people would give her money. At the end of the night, she only raked up a dollar forty-three. She could have gone better, but this wasn't that bad.
It probably wasn't a good idea to sleep in the middle of the sidewalk with so many dangerous people, but she'd take a chance. It's like, what the hell? If she dies, she dies. Nobody's going to live forever, so it's just... bleh. And so Soda let her head rest in her backpack as she put her skateboard behind her.

Kali fumbled around with the list that her master had given her, trying to figure out where she could get the items on the list. Her purple eyes were starting at it, not really wanting to look at any of the stronger, bigger people around her. Kali was immortal, a vampire, yet she was more human than anything. She was never taught to fight, and the only thing she knew how to do was run.... which she did a lot of the time. Eveything scared her. Speeking of being scared Kali ran into a man when she wasnt paying attention and gave a little squeak. He was polite though and righted her before moving on. Kali's little heart was racing her wide violet eyes unblinking. "Master does this because he knows im afraid..." she said desprately to herself, her sweet inoocent voice soft.
Kali breathed in and then moved back on down the sidewalk of new york, her body shaking of fear of the people around her. Back to the list. Polish for his shoes, a comb for his hair, and other trinkets. She sighed and then suddenly tripped, her body falling to the ground. Kali caught herself on pale hands, the concrete scraping them. Kali sat up, straightening her black hair so that her purple eyes could see. Kali had tripped over a girl who was laying on the ground. "Oh! im so sorry!!" she said, looking shy as her cheeks grew pink.

Soda was falling into a nice deep sleep, until she felt someone or something pushing against her and then a thud. So close to getting some sleep, but whatever; she could find sleep some time later. Her eyes open, but still somewhat droopy, the girl turned in the direction of the loud noise and found another girl right next to her, on the ground, apologizing. Soda didn't know what to say; she was just surprised to see this girl.
"It's alright," she said, smiling slightly. Why would this stranger be so embarrased? Maybe not, but she looked like it. Sitting up straight, Soda got a good look at who fell over her. The other girl didn't look that much older than her, and they kind of looked alike: it was the other girl's eyes that were the same as Soda's. She smiled again. "Are you ok, though?" she asked. She didn't have anything in her bag that could help, but she could buy something if this girl needed it.

"Uh huh... Im okay.." She said hurriedly, her face a bright pink even dispite her dead state. The color was brilliant against her marble white skin, and she knew it was, which made her blush more. Kali looked at her scraped hands and flinched when she finally realized how bad it burned. Scrapes were the worst kind of wound for her, they stung, but if they were regular cuts, she wouldnt have cared. Just more scars to add to the ones already there. "Are you okay? I didnt mean to fall over you... i.. i wasnt paying attention..." her eyes were looking down upset with herself. How clumsy of her.
Kali smelled of horses, hay and leather, something she always smelled like. Her converse were dirty with sawdust and mud. The jeans she wore were smuged with dirt as well, ripped in the knees too. Her shirt was the only thing unmarred by her work, but even it was a little dusty from laying down sawdust. Straw clung to her hair, and anyone who saw her would think of her nothing more than a bum, not a slave. People didnt think that slaves existed anymore. But they did, and Kali new this all too well. "Is... is there anything i could do to make up for it...?" her small voice asked.

Soda smiled; at least the girl was ok. She noticed her blushed and the young teenager smiled even more. It wasn't because Soda was making fun of her or anything, but she found it funny when people blushed, including herself. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the scrapes on the other girl's hands. "Are you sure you're ok?" she wondered. She didn't mind buy something for someone; well, usually she did, but this other girl seem nice enough to spare some money for her.
"Oh I'm ok," Soda said with a small smile. "Don't worry about it." She'd probably been hurt worse by her abusive father, so she didn't mind the normal, everyday pain she recieved. After awhile, the normal pain of life began to fade away until it seemed like the usual pain wasn't really there anymore.
Glancing at the other girl's clothes, she noticed that they had the same kind of style, too; which, of course, made her chuckle slightly. Maybe they had more things in common than what was only on the surface. Because, after all, there was more to a book of you actually read it.

Kali looked at the list in her hands and then folded it up, putting it away in her pocket. Its not like she would be doing anything with it right now, and master didnt expect her home at a certain time. Kali would probably be beaten none the less for getting something wrong she was sure. "Oh... my hands are okay... I've had worse..." she said softly, her eyes looking down at the slightly bleeding cuts. "They sting..... but thats all..." Kali looked at the girl for the first time, her violet eyes blinking. The girl looked an aweful like herself. Then she wondered why she was laying out here on the concrete.
"....Why are you out here....?" Kali asked, her tone shy. "I... I dont want to be nosy or anything....." she added onto the end quickly. Thing was, that Kali was much too sweet for her own good. She would probably offer the girl a place to stay at the stables, so long as she stayed out of sight of her master. Kali got out of the way of people walking past, so she wouldnt be trampled and waited for the girl's answer, or silence because she didnt want to answer the question.

Soda looked continued to look at the girl's hands, concerned. "I can buy you something to made the wounds better," she pushed on. She didn't want to see this girl, so innocent it appeared, hurt or wounded when she could simply buy something from the store to make it better. She decied to keep shut about the wounds after this, because after all the asking, she might have gotten annoying.
"I pretty much just travel around everywhere, so I sleep where I can," explained Soda. But she left out the part that she was a run away; that was something she wanted to keep a secret, along with so many other things in her life. She smiled at the other girl's tone, and wondered why she was so shy. Was she naturally shy around strangers, or was it because of how Soda acted; although she couldn't think of anything was would make her a scary person.
"By the way, my name's Soda."

Kali fidgeted a little when the wind brushed over her wounds just right, making them sting. "No no, really, they'll heal up just fine." And as they were speaking, her hands were starting to heal already. She kept the pale little things out of sight, so that the girl wouldnt see. Kali sat there in the awkward silence that followed, her eyes looking down in her lap to examine the dirt smudges. It was one thing she was good at, being silent. The girl there beside her that was trying to get a look at her hands seemed to be cast off, or left by her own will. Kali could understand and relate to the being cast off part, for more than a 100 years she was a slave to various owners because her parents werent happy that she didnt improve with all the drugs her father pumped her full with.
Her prediction was correct, the girl was on her own. "Well... uhm.... I work at a stable... and you can have my room... I sleep in the stalls anyways. Theres a bed there..." There she went, beeing too nice for her own good. "I mean... all i have to do is gather a few things up.... then i gotta go back.... If you wanna come with me thats okay..." Kali's voice was shy, quite and innocent still. It was just her nature to be so quiet. When the girl announced her name, Kali looked at her, violet eyes curious. "Soda.... thats a cool name..." she muttered, but didnt mean it to be sarcastic or insulting. "My name is Kali.." Her eyes glittered softly, wondering if the gril would take her offer.

Soda turned her gaze away quickly as the other girl hid her new wounds away. Feeling slightly embarassed that she had been looking, she stared at the ground for a few minutes, total silent between the two following. It was an awkward silence, and Soda didn't know how to break it, but it didn't feel weird to her. After being alone in silence after her father had beat her, she had grown used to silence, as well as a few other things in life. She sighed and looked back up at the girl, and wondered if their histories were even alike.
She looked up finally when she heard the girl's offer. "Only if you want me to," was her reply. "I mean, I don't have to come with you if it'll cause trouble or something." Well, then again, Soda had gotten into trouble so many times, it scared her hearing herself hear those words. It's not that she was scared that she would get in trouble, but that the other girl would. "Oh, hey thanks," she asnwered, talking about her name. "My real name's Sodapop, but I go by Soda. And Kali's a pretty cool name, too," she spoke, smiling just slightly.
