My supervisor has set me an essay. It is on literature, which I have not been taught properly in English for around three years, and far longer in Latin. Not so bad, it would seem. But the lectures on the topic have been postponed then one cancelled, so they start on the day of the supervision. The essay has to be handed in the previous day at 5pm. Still... not so bad. Well, he gave us an enormous reading list too. It's not all mandatory, but some of it would be very useful for doing my essay. Very useful. I went to the Faculty Library. They do not have most of the reading list. I find this unsporting of my supervisor. Many of the books and journals they did have were reference-only, too. Drat. But I got three of the book, from a list nudging twenty. Oh well, there's always the University Library... that gets every book published, every year. It will have the books. Alas, however, I am not allowed to borrow from the UL until my third year.

All in all, I have a feeling that Fate, Luck, Chance, Fortune and Karma have decided to pay me back for all the happiness I have been experiencing. This annoys me rather. Oh well, back to the old literature standby- make it up. Maybe if I waffle well enough, it'll be so false it's true. Worth a shot.

Why can't you borrow from the library as a year one? Maybe you could get a year three friend to check out the books or use a public library?

Because they don't trust 1st years with books, and assume we wouldn't need anything that's not in the Faculties or Colleges.

Public libraries wouldn't have the stuff, it's quite obscure, alas. And I only know a few people in year three or above, and they might have got the stuff for me, but I would have had to bribe them with cake or something. I just did it without in the end. It went... ok...
