Specialities:
1. Language learning.
2. Writing and speaking.
3. Dancing.
4. Acting.
5. Memory.
Summary:
Rose has always had a passion for words. Ever since her childhood, she's marvelled at the twists and turns of tone and tautology, metaphor and mnemonics, simile and asyndeton, and she has always excelled in this above all else. It was only natural that languages should follow suit in her abilities. She is competent in German, has a pretty good grasp of French, and can read Latin to a fair standard, though she has designs on other languages for the near future.
Of course, continuing this theme of words and language, it makes sense that a portion of her talents should exist in ad lib speech and in her own writing. She's no great novelist or poet, but has found herself penning odds and ends every now and then, has even been published for some little trifles... a few poems in books, articles in papers. She likes to hope she'll be rather more than this one day, and that she'll be able to finish one of those stories she's started writing.
Her third skill, or talent, is one she's only picked up recently. When she started university, she was co-opted by various of the folk-dance scenes, and has found herself now immersed in the beautiful world of proper dancing. It's something to which she feels herself far more suited than the awful gyrating her contemporaries often call "dance". Once again, she's no genius, but she finds she has some small skill here, and likes to think she can sometimes carry it off with a little elegance and grace.
Hand in hand, her other two skills. Her memory is excellent... often, she feels, far more so than the intelligence with which she is often attributed, and it allows her to easily learn her lines and focus herself to do the odd bit of am-dram. She hates being on stage... detests people looking at her, but having taken a few drama exams here and there, she finds herself enjoying the skill for its own sake, without the need for anyone else to see.
Weaknesses:
1. Is human.
2. Can lack tact.
3. Neurotic.
4. Completely obsessive.
Summary:
First and foremost, Rose is utterly and entirely human. This means she has no special abilities, powers or skills whatsoever. She can't even fight, beyond girly slaps and the ability to put unsuspecting teenage males into a half Nelson. She therefore cannot defend herself, except with her wits. This can be a problem in meeting the forces of darkness and the mustered hordes of the night.
In daily life, one of her greatest flaws is simply her lack of subtlety. She has a tendency to be brutally honest when silence would suffice, and equally the knack of opening her mouth before her brain has engaged. This... doesn't help her in making friends. She is argumentative to the point of silliness and forgets that sometimes it would be polite and tactful to just stop. It isn't so much of a drawback nowadays, since she's met some equally tactless people in university, and can quite happily sit and talk to them in the knowledge that they won't be offended, and will most likely say something worse in a few minutes.
Obsessive and neurotic are good words to describe her character. She latches on to ideas, habits, phrases and practices, and uses them to the chagrin of others and her own delight. In her subject, she is ardently passionate and determined beyond all belief to get it right, often well in the face of common sense and logic. Conversations with her can be... odd... random even... and can deter the normal person. It makes making friends a good deal harder, just as her obsessions make seeming normal quite difficult, though she doesn't care about that anymore.Appearance;;
Looks: 19, or possibly a little younger.
Hair: Copper, shoulder length. Generally held up with knitting needles (which she uses to defend herself, should the need arise).
Eyes: Blue.
Height: 5'5".
Marks: Pierced ears.
Race: Caucasian.
Skin Tone: Very, very pale.
Body Type: Slim but curvy.
Clothing Style: Eccentric and eclectic.
Footwear: Equally odd.
Summary:
Rose is... nothing special. She's not ugly, but she doesn't really stand out physically either, except for her hair. Admittedly, being a redhead makes her pretty visible and obvious, but lookswise, she's... average. She doesn't really have any issues with her looks though, which is pleasantly unusual. She doesn't want to change anything about herself. Her clothes, however, are sometimes more unusual than the person they clothe. She has a penchant for Victoriana, with the small boots and severe lines, as well as a liking for mildly goth gear, and some hippy styles. She quite likes multi-coloured things, and will often happily wear the librarian-esque costumery of her fellow university students. In short, she has very little preferences, and will wear pretty much anything.Personality;;
Likes:
1. Tea.
2. Reading.
3. Old-fashioned things.
4. History.
5. Dancing.
6. Writing.
7. Languages.
Dislikes:
1. Science snobbery.
2. Boredom.
3. Summer.
4. Normality.
Flaws:
1. Eccentricity.
2. Neuroses.
3. Paranoia.
4. Does not know own limits.
Summary:
Rose likes to think of herself as being in the wrong age. She likes all things old-fashioned, be they languages, affectations or clothes. All the things she sees as being the pure essence of the Edwardian age and as far as the 1940s are what she aspires to be. If she were male, she'd wear a tweed jacket with leather patches on the elbows. But it goes beyond the superficialities. She is determined to be a well-mannered example of a young lady from a lost age. Of course, this means certain things get up her nose quite a lot. Her feelings on science are... ambivolent... so she gets a bit annoyed when scientists consider themselves far superior to those in her own genre. Of course, she has no objections to science itself, being in some ways very much in favour, but she holds it at a distance and with the slight distaste of a natural arts student.
However, she can be quite odd and dotty beyond this. She has eccentricities such as her hatred of summer and bright sunlight and her odd paranoiae which do not become her to her contemporaries, save a few close friends.
She also has incomplete abilities to gauge her own limits. She will push herself further than she ought, unless hampered by boredom, in which case she'll give up entirely and not try at all.Background Check;;
Family Members: Parents divorced but extant. Three grandparents extant. No siblings. One cousin also at university.
School Attended: Bosworth Battlefield Grammar School
Finishing Year: 2008
History:
She was born in the North of England in September 1989 to a mother of... confused descent and a very Northern father. She lived near Manchester for the first four years of her life, though her memories of this time are a sparse blur of arguments and young-child thoughts... the view between the bannister and falling down the stairs... pet cats and grandparents and long-forgotten friends. Her first clear memory is of sitting in the car as her mother drove her to the Midlands... the start of the proceedings which would end in her parents' divorce.
This change didn't really affect her all that badly. She was too young to properly understand, though perhaps she understood more than her parents thought, and so she took this separation in her stride.
She started school, and it was soon discovered that she would be, for want of a better word, a geek. She loved, adored, relished and had a passion for learning. She started doing French in a club when she was five, and found an instant talent for it.
When she reached the age of seven, it was decided that she should apply for a private school instead of staying with her classmates and going to the local comprehensive. This proved the be a brilliant move, and a great shift in her enjoyment of life. Here, she was challenged and given more to do with her mind so she managed to grow and develop better. She also found people with whom she actually had things in common and so began also to develop much better skills with people her own age, where before her ability to relate had always been with those found in books. Over the years, she took as many languages as became available to her: a dabble of Chinese, a touch of Hungarian, a smidge of Spanish, as well as those she took formally, German, French, Latin, and of course English.
By the time she reached her A levels, it was determined by many of her teachers that she should apply for Cambridge University, a decision she was quite happy to accept since she'd long since decided the same for herself. Despite claims by friends, family and some teachers, she also stuck to her own choice of subject, being Classics. Latin was something for which she'd always had a passion and a natural talent, far beyond anything else she did, and so to her it seemed only logical to take this further and do it as a university degree. She was accepted to Newnham College, Cambridge, and so began, as she would say, on the true and righteous path of Classics.
It was at university, however, that she discovered the existence of beings beyond humanity.
Being so old a city, it is no surprise that there were undead lurking in the halls of Cambridge. What was a surprise is that some of them were teaching. Being naturally qualified in areas like History and Languages, given their expanded experience, some of the foremost (and perhaps most eccentric) lecturers were vampires and were-beasts. It took a while, but over the first weeks and months she began to notice and be intrigued by these unusual academics. She soon realised the truth, though without rancour or hatred, since they were some of her favourite supervisors and teachers. But she determined then to learn as much as she could about them, perhaps with the intention of becoming one herself.
