Yeah, this was started up through a chat with Thorn on the Cbox, it started with me speaking aloud that I need to get my old skills back and then it got into a conversation of what our views of RPing are. SO, I figured I'd post this thread with Thorn's idea of making this a disscusion. So basically the disscusion is about, what RPing is to you, is it a way to simply pass the time? A seemingly harmless thing to do for what internet time you have? Or is it something more like life or death? (If it is Life or death I pity your soul and existince. D:) It's just a simple disscusion, not a debate or way to randomly flam people. that's not why this was placed here, it's just simply to put out one another's veiws on this subject.
I guess I'll start. To me, Rping is a way to refine you writting skills. In my eyes a Role Play, weither in a single thread, a multiple thread or on a single site, is a story inwhich you create a fictional character and you develop a story with that character with the assistance of other people and their characters. I myself hate when I post extravogant posts and then the next person simply posts the minimum they're supposed to and put little effort into it. I myself also hate when I am unable to really put fourth more than two paragraphs. To me, it is a fun way to spend the time that not only helps you develop writting skills, but also helps you form skills such as: fictionary character development, Story Development, Vocabulary development, strategic thinking skills,(Dual RP's), Reactionary skills(Once agian Dual Rp's lol), and also much more that is currently escaping my mind right now XD.
I see an RP as three things:
1.) A good way to pass the time
I mean seriously if you sit around bored all day then this will be great for you unles you're lazy like some people on the site *coughs*Minyo*coughs* I spend countless hours on RP sites, not simply because I have no life but becuase I'm always bored and this is the best way to entertain myself.
2.) A good way to improve my writting, character and story development skills
Like stated above lol, but in my eyes an RP is also a good way to develop one's writing abilities as well as making characters and plots and plot twists. Let's face it when I started RPing, I didn't know shit, I was post 1 to 3 liners and barely able to make a coheirent paragraph lol. But over time through RPing I was able to dish out multi-paragraphed posts full of discription and everything within one or more posts at a time. (Ah the good ol' days...) Through being able to do this and thanks to RPing I actually took a great leap in my writting classes when it came to creating Narative essays.
3.) A story made by two or more people
If you read an RP thread... what are reading? practically a story made by two or more people working together (In some cases) in which they post using their developed, or developing characters and create a minature story through writting, often the pairs or groups of people do not plan out the thread but that's the glory off it lol it kind of makes it interesting if you ask me.
