While spending a little time at one of my usual haunts this little article sort of stood out to me. While I haven't watched the Olympics stuff, and probably never will I do have to comment on this. Dear PRC, Go fuck yourself. If you think that's rude, arrogant, and disrespectful thank all the gods that ever existed in the human mind that I wasn't president of the United States during this historic event. Otherwise I'd be responsible for the biggest most awesome international incident since.... I don't know what. Sincerely yours, The Janitor.

China sucks. They were so rude to this little girl during the opening ceremony. She could sing but she didn't look pretty enough for them so they had a pretty other young girl lip sync. That's an esteem killer right there. Agreed. >>

Heard about that. Let's not forget about a few other incidents of wrong doing.

Now I wonder how rude, arrogant, and disrespectful it would be if I smuggled in a band, used the olympic flag as a missle, stripped down to my knickers (note to self: pick up ugliest pair sold to tourists in Australia. must have Koala on them), started singing, dancing, and had a little air guitar performance during one of the solos?

*forces back the giggle at the difference between US and UK usage of the word "knickers"* And back to being a grown-up again: China being subtle again...China there displaying the tact and subtlety which has earned its reputation these days as a complete arse of a country. What I hate though, is that this little piece is highly reminiscent of somewhere else... any guesses? It begins with a "G"... Guantanamo Bay anyone? Admittedly China is quite totalitarian enough on its own, a communist government does that to a nation, after all, but what gets me is that it is being just as vicious to its prisoners as the USA... like what are they trying to prove? We all know that they're the big industrial rising power in the East... we all know, or at leasts suspect, that what's going on in Tibet is, if not a bit wrong then very shady, and yet they insist on their heavy censorship of everything to prevent any of it leaking out. Why? If they want to be a major totalitarian power only just wandering into capitalism, then who can stop them? But to try to deny it all to the world when the world already knows... that's just daft. And the Olympics... it's like they want to prove that they're all nice now by putting on a great big show... and that made it worse. Where else but China could you get such a spectacle as the one they gave? It was phenomenal and quite scary. So many people dancing in co-ordination... it freaks me out a little, to be truthful. And to spend so much money. They've yet to grasp that much of the rest of the world's trust and opinion of them cannot be bought with fireworks, even ones so wonderful as that. Of course, one tiny part of me does have to mention at this point the abject shame at knowing that the 2012 Olympics will suck in comparison. I'm sorry, but the UK doesn't have the money to spare for all that palavah, and I'm glad. I only wish we hadn't got the 2012 games at all. But I digress. China's problem is that it's a state coming to power too late, or perhaps just too early. Right now, if it wants the sort of power worldwide that its industry could give it, it'll never get it because America is in the way. You can't have two so dominant powers at the same time, as the Cold War proved. Just as, in the days of the British Empire, other powers growing midway fell down against too much strength, these days, anyone heading for empire status would probably come whack up against the USA and fail miserably. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing, considering my opinions on the USA's influence in global conflicts and politics. At any rate, that's enough of my blethers to be going on with. More will come when I can get my internet running at a decent speed.

Something to think about.Eh good or bad. Comes back to my view that in a time of crisis government is a big selfish giant carrying a hammer called "military". As long as you're on the giant's good side all is well. If not. You'd better do some serious thinking. Right now I'd consider it a good thing. The Russian bear decides to move on any country in Eastern Europe and it'll be crushed within a month. Only ace in Putin's hand is nuclear. If the missle defense issue isn't blocked chances are it'll be gone.
