So in this thread this person was complaining about a horrible sub.

Quite possibly the worst class experience I've ever had. My psychology teacher was gone today (something about being pregnant and having morning sickness at 1 in the afternoon) So anyway, the sub.... worst. teacher. ever. And that's an understatement. First of all he comes in and starts saying a bunch of stuff about how in the good ol' days if you missed behaved they'd hit you with a 2x4, and he wished he could do it now, but the lawyers would have a picnic with it. Which, you know, is fine and all, but it had nothing at all to do with the class subject, and everyone was looking at him like he was from Mars or something. The scary part about this was, he kept sharing his political views, and you couldn't tell when he was joking or being serious, so it was pretty confusing. But the REALLY bad part was when he told us to get out a piece of paper, and write him a poem about the war in Iraq.
This was wrong for several reasons. First of all, this was a psychology class, and had nothing at all to do with politics or war or any of that. Second, the teacher never assigned anything like this, and the poem was his own personal assignment that nobody but him would see. Third, any teacher who's even halfway competent would know not to ask his or her student's their personal feelings and opinions on an ongoing war. The reason that last one is particularly bad in this case, was because a girl in that class had a brother who was killed in the war just a few months ago. And let me tell you, she was furious. How would you like it if your brother died, and then some strange man came and asked you to write a poem about it for his own entertainment? Yeah, she was THAT ticked. I've never ever seen anyone so angry, and I hope I never have to again.
After class we got her calmed down and then she and I went to the principal's office and requested never to hire that sub again. Gah. That guy was a complete ass.

I responded:

Sorry but I think that's the perfect psychological assignment. I'm sorry about that girls brother and everything but he never said the soldiers died for nothing, did he now? She can't climb under a rock every time someone mentions the war.

Then some Idiot response this to me:

comment is not warranted nor needed.how would you feel if you had a family member that went to war and got shot dead in the head then you see some car drive up to your house and tell you sorry your brother/mother/sister/brother had been shot and is never coming home? i'm pretty sure you wouldn't be thinking what you just said

My final response:

I don't need to get in a fight with you. I haven't said anything rude, your comment is anything but necessary to mine. I am SORRY about the girl's brother but that is Psychology class, why don't you read up on the definition of Psychology.

No, you’re not. If he (assuming it’s a he) is not willing to hear other’s opinions on the topic, then he shouldn’t have posted it at all. I think the teacher’s way of going about the “lesson” was a bit harsh, but he wasn’t out of the bounds of the curriculum. Then again, I don’t know what kind of psychology class this was either. There are many of them, and it’s very possible that this class was a different value to the one he was going at.

However, I do think his reaction post was a bit of an over-inflated ego. He took a response that clearly wasn’t read all the way through and twisted it to look like you were the bad guy. You were completely within your bounds as a human, and someone who was commenting on an opinion with your own.

Thankfully I had another member defend me. Oh yes, I felt so damn mighty when posting that.

Unfortunately I have to keep away from that thread and in another post I posted my leave after my response. Thankfully there is no smite button on Proboards Support.

So my response was just this:

I did think I knew that when I posted my first post I'd get a lot of angry responses. I perhaps should have just "sided with the teacher and got a +1" but I wanted to state what I felt about it because I could defend my post and not get bored of it (ex I may get bored of certain debates and such and leave them be). I can see no fault with the teacher. I have re-read the first post many times and all he asked for was a poem about the war.

Let me tell you, a) no I do not feel "mighty" and b) if I have twisted anything. Do I even dare ask what?

I would like to thank you HoudiniDerek and your way with words.

And now I shall take my leave from this thread.

My best friend died in Iraq and I don't freak out when people talk about the war. It's reality, it's life, you're right Isi you can't run away from bad things that happen. You just have to deal with it however you can and then move on with your life a little more experianced.

.....people argueing about war again. I wanna go to war already......it's my job, my duty, and an honor to die. I LOVE my job as a soldier and can't wait to get shipped and serve my country. I want this year to blow by so i can do my last bit of training and go over seas. If I die then it's part of my job, I have no idea why everyone argues bout this. It's our choice to go our choice to ign. No one's holding a gun to our heads and we know the probable cost.....I'm done now.

Oh yeah I forgot to add now that Shadows posted. My husband is a soldier and could go overseas and die, and I live with that knowledge every day. But I love him and accept the choices he makes for us and our life together. It scares me very much, but again, it's a part of accepting life for what it is and moving on. I value every day we have together more than anything else in the world because of the knowledge that I have that someday something bad could happen to him.
