BUMP. Calliope sat up with a start and rubbed her head. She was riding on a subway heading out. Her father and brother had gone on a hunting trip and wouldn't be back for a couple of days so this left her alone in her apartment. She hadn't been getting much sleep lately; mostly because of her special power. But when she finally did get some sleep it was maybe for a few seconds or minutes.
And against her better judgment she had fallen asleep on the subway. But as she wiped the sleep from her eyes she couldn't help but think and sigh happily. This had been the first time in a long time that when she fell asleep that she didn't dream. The subway stopped and and she got off this was her stop after all. So she walked for a bit until she came to the park. She sat down on a bench and closed her eyes for a quick second.
Everything in the park was nice and quiet so she could get the sleep that she desperately needed. So she closed her eyes momentarily and dozed off. Not knowing she was being watched.

it's hard to see the pain behind the mask bearing the burden OF A SECRET STORM SOMETIMES SHE WISHES SHE WAS NEVER BORN THROUGH THE WIND AND THE RAIN SHE STANDS HARD AS A STONE IN A WORLD THAT SHE CAN'T RISE ABOVE BUT HER DREAMS GIVE HER WINGS AND SHE FLIES TO A PLACE WHERE SHE'S LOVED --------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------- A FRAGILE SOUL CAUGHT IN THE HANDS OF FATE
Darkening skies marked the end of yet another day. And yet, people continued to walk about and go about their daily lives as if they still had daylight hours. That was how New York worked, though, was it not? People were still out an about at night, hitting the clubs or various other things. It was the city that never slept, rival only to perhaps Las Vegas. One small girl was no different than they others, but she had nowhere to go and no one to see. She was wandering just to wander, it seemed, her hyena Apollo at her side. Kaiser had unfortunately fallen ill and was at the mansion getting cared for, otherwise Anastasia would have had two at her side. They were her two most favorite of the back she had, and she took them with her when she went for walks every now and again. Apollo this day had on a harness, but still no leash. Anastasia was holding that. It had been brought to her attention that people would freak out less about the creature if it looked like someone’s pet. It was still very much a wild animal, but Anastasia had raised him and Kaiser when they were cubs. They were fairly docile, but if provoked they would indeed attack, and they could be incredibly vicious.
The park was quiet at this time of the night, and the young were-hyena glanced around to make sure there were no threats as she stepped onto the path that went through the park. Somewhere around there was the zoo, but that wasn’t where she was going . It would be closing up at this time of the night, and with the animal Anastasia was walking around with, they probably wouldn’t let her inside, anyway. Or if they did, they would expect her to tell everyone about it. Though, it was a safe bet to say that they wouldn’t allow her in because she was walking around with a wild animal. However, the peaceful walk turned into something else when Apollo caught site of another person sitting on a bench. He whined and tried to leave Anastasia, but she told him to stay and so he did. Anastasia looked around and spotted the woman, then took a step back. It was that Calliope woman. Could she not get away from the girl? Was Anastasia destined to remember the death of her friend forever and be haunted by the one who caused it? Apollo felt the distress in his mistress and yipped, then took off for the woman, despite Anastasia’s call for him to stop.

"huh?" Calliope said as she sat up. She glanced around and remebered that she had fallen asleep in the park. She quickly tried to wipe the sleep from eher eyes as she saw something come towards her. Since she was still half-asleep she thought it was a dog or something. So as it got closer she sat up and looked closer.
As it got close enough Calli's eyes widened. It was a hyena and it was running right towards her. She was scared a bit not because it looked scary...but because she had no idea what the hyena wanted with or or could do to her. "Nice hyena, nice hyena. Are you tame?" she asked it as she offered it her hand to sniff so that it showed the hyena that she wasn't going to hurt it. She actually managed to pet it and stood awe of how soft the fur was. "You're sweet, aren't you" she cooed as she pet it gently

ANASTASIA KIRILOVNA MARISOVA → IT'S HARD TO SEE THE PAIN BEHIND THE MASK BEARING THE BURDENSHE STANDS HARD AS A STONE IN A WORLD THAT SHE CAN'T RISE ABOVE ← Apollo tilted his head and came to an abrupt halt by the girl on the bench. His curved ears were twisted to face her and his lips were pulled over his fangs in an attempt to look vicious—an endeavor that was accomplished most of the time. The strange human girl spoke to him, but he didn’t quite understand the meaning of the sounds that came from her mouth. However, the offering of her hand was unmistakable. People often did it to him when he was with Anastasia. It was some sort of peace offering, as if sticking her hand in his face proved that she trusted him and that she wasn’t going to hurt him. His dark eyes narrowed, but he stretched his neck out and took a little sniff of her hand, then sat back on his haunches. Had this been what Anastasia had stressed out about, or had it been something else? He glanced around, ignoring the girl for a moment to see if there were any other dangers in the park. Calliope touched his head and he looked at her through the corner of his eyes, his lips drawing back to show his fangs again before a low growl rumbled in his chest. He was about as tame as a wild animal could be. Cats and dogs were bred to be domesticated, but hyenas weren’t. You could take the animal out of the wild, but you couldn’t take the wild out of an animal.
Anastasia stood several yards away in the dark, wondering what she should do. Apollo was unpredictable around other people, especially when he could sense Anastasia’s mental anguish. She sighed quietly and looked around attempting to think quickly before something happened. If someone saw her pet hyena attacking someone, then she would get in trouble, and not to mention that Apollo could really get hurt. Anastasia looked around one more time, then swallowed what fear she could and jogged forward, appearing in front of Calliope and taking her hyena by the harness and pulling him back. Apollo let out a yip of surprise, but didn’t fight her very hard on it. “Sorry,” Anastasia muttered as she tried to pull Apollo away, trying hard not to stay around the hunter for too long. Who knew what she was going to do.

As soon as Anastasia came into view Calli's heart began to race. She recognized this as the girl who was the friend of Kyla; the girl she had killed. She had never forgiven her brother for that night and she would never if she saw to it. But as she pulled the hyena back she shook her head. "It's ok. I know how hard it is to have an exotic pet. And by the way, if I were you I'd hold tight to that hyena of yours. Pharaoh don't take too kindly to hyenas; it reminds him of home. He's a wild one" she spoke as she finally glanced at the girl. For the longest time she had been looking at her feet.
But as soon as Calliope spoke a rustle went in the bush behind the bench in which she was sitting. Out popped this beautiful and graceful Pharaoh hound and he was baring his teeth at the two of them. "Pharaoh, sigyet!" Calliope commanded as the dog looked back at her. He gave her a look but he backed up and sat down. He never once took his eyes off of Anastasia and the hyena. "Just thought I'd warn you" she whispered as he glared at the two

ANASTASIA KIRILOVNA MARISOVA → IT'S HARD TO SEE THE PAIN BEHIND THE MASK BEARING THE BURDENSHE STANDS HARD AS A STONE IN A WORLD THAT SHE CAN'T RISE ABOVE ← “It's ok. I know how hard it is to have an exotic pet. And by the way, if I were you I'd hold tight to that hyena of yours. Pharaoh don't take too kindly to hyenas; it reminds him of home. He's a wild one,” Calliope informed. Anastasia tilted her head, confused. This girl didn’t have a dog with—oh. It bounded out apparently out of nowhere, even though there had been no sign of it before. Whatever happened to the leash laws? Even Anastasia didn’t let her hyena run around off the leash anymore since finding out about them. Apollo of course was not at all happy to see this dog. He reared up on his hind legs and let out a vicious snarl. Anastasia held tight to the leash out of instinct, pulling her pet closer to her. Apollo had always been the wildest out of the pair that she had with her. He was tamer than the pack at the mansion, but not by much. She pulled him back until the clip on the harness touched her hand, but Anastasia’s eyes were on the dog. Leashless. Domesticated. This girl’s beloved pet. Her expression became vacant for a moment, and after a second Anastasia looked up to look at Calliope.
“He is very cute. Pharaoh. I have another hyena named Kaiser. This is Apollo. . . ,” she replied sounding conversational and friendly. Apollo continued to strain against his leash, snarling and bearing his teeth, his powerful hind legs leaving a divot in the ground, front paws in the air while Anastasia held him back. She adjusted her hands and then the clip released and Apollo fell to the ground. His target. . . that mutt. Hyenas could kill if they needed to despite being scavengers. Apollo’s bite was much stronger than the dogs would ever be. . . their jaws powerful. Anastasia’s eyes went wide and she took a step forward, declaring something in Russia, reaching out for the hyena. She stopped, however, holding the useless leash in both hands, not wanting to get in the middle if a fight broke out between the two, and the hound wouldn’t be smart to not fight back.

Calli's eyes widened as the hyena reacted badly to her dog. Pharaoh wasn't exactly acting very mature and kept growling but didn't move from the spot where he sat. She smiled when Anastasia told her about her hyena.
"Cool names. I have two more pets but I have no idea where one is. One is out in this park somewhere. And the other is back at my house; she's still jet-lagged the poor thing. They're originally from our home in Europe and are just now coming to America. Tut wanted to explore and I didn't have the heart to put him on a leash. But Pharaoh never leaves my side; he's protective like that" she explained as she threw the dog a look. He nodded as if he had heard her and kept his gaze on the hyena as he showed his hackles.
All hell broke loose when Apollo was released from his harness. Pharaoh lost all self-control and stood on his paws. He instantly went into a defense position in front of Calliope. They hyena was getting closer as Pharaoh howled out into the silent night. Another howl rang out into the night as a growl erupted from behind the bush. All of a sudden a huge wolf-like animal jumped over the bench and appeared in front of both Pharaoh and Calliope. He bared his fangs at the hyena and pounced for it. He grabbed it by the nape of the neck and held it down with his powerful jaw as he growled menacingly.
"Tutankhamun! That is enough!" she yelled at the jackal. He shook his head and gave her a look that meant I'm trying to protect you. Pharaoh was still in his position in case Apollo escaped from Tut's strong grip. Calli's eyes shook and looked over to Anastasia. "If I were you, I'd hurry and harness him up again. I'm not sure Tut will be able to hold onto him without doing sever damage. Don't worry; he won't dare attack you. So hurry!" Calli spoke as she pointed to the animals

ANASTASIA KIRILOVNA MARISOVA → IT'S HARD TO SEE THE PAIN BEHIND THE MASK BEARING THE BURDENSHE STANDS HARD AS A STONE IN A WORLD THAT SHE CAN'T RISE ABOVE ← There was another dog. Anastasia was caught off-guard by it’s appearance, but Apollo was not. The howl the two dogs had shared gave him sufficient warning to ready to himself for the attack. The larger hound was hard to miss, but easy to dodge. It pounced at him and Apollo let out an eerie howl that sounded like more a squeal and dug his paws in to stop and the other dog missed him by a few inches. With the dog now in front of him, Apollo pushed off the ground with his muscular hind legs in an attempt to slam into the large dog. Hyenas delt with creatures much larger than this dog—i.e, lions—so this would be a simple task. Jaws stretched wide, Apollo went for the leg instead of the throat and tried to bite down. A hyena’s bite was strong enough to snap a femur like a twig. His target was supposed to be the smaller dog, but now this one was in his path. “Apollo. Apollo!” Anastasia called, taking a couple unsure steps forward before pulling back again, acting too afraid to get between the two warring animals.
Anastasia of course could have stopped all of this with a few commands. Had she wanted to. Calmly, she pulled out a cell phone and punched in a few numbers, hit send, then closed the phone. One text message to a close friend. She looked up at the fighting animals. “I’m sorry. I don’t know how that happened!” she exclaimed, looking incredibly flabbergasted. She wanted another reason to hate this woman, she needed more reason to justify her eventual death. Even if she didn’t kill her hyena—well, Calliope wasn’t doing this, but she was guilty by association and they were her animals—if that hyena was hurt, she was signing the death warrant to those dogs now too. Naturally Anastasia did know how it had happened. . . . She’d let Apollo off the leash. Already this Calliope had hung herself when Kyla died. She seemed to regret it, but apologies weren’t going to bring Kyla back. It wasn’t going to make her feel better, fill the hole in her heart left by Kyla’s absence. This woman was speaking to her now as if they were friends, and Anastasia held no interest in befriending the one who had murdered her dear friend.

When I am seen. I am feared. _______________________ Such a busy day. It was like the set up for some kind of joke. His diary, if he had one would of gone along the lines of: Get up, eat, torture, torture, kill, torture, kill, kill, lunch, kill, kill, torture, torture, cup of tea, and finally, the torture that got him the information he wanted. Several people had thought Kyla's death had been forgotten by Urjasz, but he had spent days learning the past of hunters in the city. He had a single name, but hunters didn't always know who each other were. It would take some time to find out those who knew. And time it did. Urjasz rather enjoyed it. It was revealed that this Calliope was part of a duo of hunters. Brother and sister. The brother was out of the city for now, which meant he had the chance to get her on her own. Driving around, he was constantly looking around for her. Then he got a text. Fortunately he was literally passing the park as he got the message and he didn't waste time parking, simply driving into the park and shifting. Tearing across the grounds, he followed the smells of Anastasia for direction. He could smell her hyena. And a dog. And a human. There was the smell of aggression from the animals. Even Anastasia was feeling it. As they came into sight, he charged even fasted. He was wrong. It was two beasts and one has Anastasia's hyena's in a pin. Claws extended, he tore the dog in half as he smashed into the side of it, freeing the hyena. Heading straight for the other dog, he was quick to smash his claws through its face. He liked animals, but he didn't want to risk any surprise attacks. Looking to the side, he growled at Calliope and made his way towards her. Many had died for this moment. He would enjoy every moment.

Calli stood there in shock as this strange man literally ripped apart her dog. Then he went for the other one and got it in the face. She snapped out of her trance and turned to her dog that got hit in the face. "Run Pharaoh, I'll find you later. Just run!" she yelled at him as she flipped off the bench. The dog who had its eye slashed sighed but did as his master asked.
Calliope then saw the man turn into a huge wolf-like thing. Her breath caught in her throat as it growled at her and started towards her. "You're going to pay for hurting my dogs" she spoke bravely even though she was scared as hell of this guy. But she stood up straight and got in a defensive stance. "What is your problem?" She pulled out two Desert Eagles and pointed them at the wolf.
He must be a were-wolf. AmunRa told me about them; good thing these bullets are pure silver she noted in her head as she watched him seem to circle her. She never once took her gaze off of the wolf

ANASTASIA KIRILOVNA MARISOVA → IT'S HARD TO SEE THE PAIN BEHIND THE MASK BEARING THE BURDENSHE STANDS HARD AS A STONE IN A WORLD THAT SHE CAN'T RISE ABOVE ← Anastasia heard Urjasz before she noted him, and his surprise appearance didn’t startle her when he burst from the brush and bowled the dog over that was holding down Apollo, freeing the hyena. The other dog was hit in the face, but it wasn’t a fatal wound. Disfiguring, but not fatal. Calliope told the other mongrel to run, and Anastasia narrowed her eyes. “Apollo! Kill it!” she snarled in Russian, giving no gestures with her hands, standing stark straight. The dark look on her face was not an expression she wore often. . . if at all. She really just wasn’t herself right then. Normally Anastasia was not a vengeful person by nature, but here she stood, stoic and hands balled into fists by her side. Apollo adhered to her command immediately, whereas Pharaoh had hesitated. It would not have mattered if she had spoken in English or Russian—or even any other language—her connection with hyenas in general made her commands understandable no matter what language. The hyena bolted for the injured dog, taking him by his blind side and tackling him to the ground, burying his fangs into his throat. Calliope should have let Tut have Apollo.
There. Anastasia seemed to relax now and her stature and demeanor changed dramatically, her hands coming up to her chest as she wrung them nervously, shoulders hunched and expression unsure. She glanced around a tad as if she was a tad bit unaware of her surroundings, and then jumped at the site of the shredded dog. “Urjasz!” Anastasia called, as if surprised to see him. Technically she wasn’t surprised to see him in general, she was just surprised to see him in his wolf form. She had expected him to show up in human form or something, but she should have expected this. He was more intimidating—though Anastasia found him incredibly intimidating in his human form as well, but then again she found everyone as such because she was so short compared to pretty much everyone—to those who didn’t know who he was. She did wonder if this Calliope knew who he was. Urjasz was rather well-known in the immortal community for his cruelty and ruthlessness. Surely any hunter worth their gun would know of him?

When I am seen. I am feared. _______________________ Anastasia sent her hyena after the injured dog, a move which had Urjasz not been set in kill mode he would of seen and been slightly surprised. Death, animal or human, was not in Anastasia's nature. Nether the less her hyena soon found itself getting a bit of revenge for the previous surprise attack. Calliope shouted at him and pulled out her weapons. Amateur. It wouldn't matter if she fired, he was quick and Anastasia knew it. And given his new power, he was finding it was handy for on the spot situations. In a flash of speed and dodging her aim, he flew forward, shifting to his human form and slammed his fists into the wrists of her arms. But he had not simply punched her. From his fist were two bone blades from his very body. With a quick twist of his hand, he would be able to remove any use of her hands. "You killed my friend" he spat, staring angrily into her eyes. "Fuck your dogs. You're going to pay for what you did to my friend! How dare you believe you could attack an ally of the Gorchakov family and get away with it. How dare you attack a friend of Urjasz Volkova!" Twisting his fists, the blades turned in her arms and he pulled out one of them. Retracting the blade, he swung a fist at her head, throwing punches until they connected. Pure rage filled his heart and he wanted this person dead. Now. But she would feel extreme pain first. "I'm going to kill you. I'm going to kill your brother. I'm going to kill anyone left of your fucking family. I'm going to kill anyone who once helped you. Do you understand the situation you're in yet? Or do I need to give some more examples?"

Pharaoh was stronger and faster then he looked. He did get held at the throat by the hyena but he managed to get out of it. She then ran off down the street as fast as his feet would take him. While this happened Calli upped her ante. She managed to escape his fast which had bladed in them. She then went into her fight or flight mode. She then dropped her guns and started to defend. She escaped most of the blades except for one that got her in the cheek.
She then started to fight back. She took out a short sword that was still pretty long though. She also tried to attack him by using her silver sword. She kept slashing at him in revenge for her dog. She had to wait; she had to bide her time until either AmunRa or her father got here. She knew she wouldn't be able to take this guy on by herself. He was too good and she was an amateur. Pharaoh ran faster until he came to their house and got AmunRa. He saw this as a bad sign and let the dog in as and took off down the street.
"It...was an...accident" she asked as she kept attacking. "I didn't mean to kill him; she tried to kill my brother and I did what I had to to protect him. It was an accident, I didn't intentionally kill her. That wasn't my intention" she growled back

ANASTASIA KIRILOVNA MARISOVA → IT'S HARD TO SEE THE PAIN BEHIND THE MASK BEARING THE BURDENSHE STANDS HARD AS A STONE IN A WORLD THAT SHE CAN'T RISE ABOVE ← Apollo had one mission bestowed upon him by his mistress. . . kill the mongrel. How far could the dog get with his throat bleeding? Apollo had the taste of the creature’s blood on his tongue and he went into a blood rage, taking after the dog as it ran, tail between its legs. His powerful back legs propelled him along the ground—he was built for open-space running, and though a hyena’s gait was rather awkward, he was a speedy sucker and he kept right on Pharaoh’s tail, his high-pitched cackle piercing the New York night life. The site of the two animals rushing down the street—though mostly it was the hyena—made the people on the sidewalk jump out of the way in surprise. However, this dog was now leading Apollo straight to Calliope’s place of residence, it seemed. As soon as the dog stopped to alert someone, Apollo slammed into Pharaoh’s side and knocked him off his feet, tumbling over on top of him and gripping his large jaws around the dog’s throat yet again, biting down with enough force to snap the hound’s neck clean in two, uncaring that there were humans nearby. This was his mission, and he was going to carry it out until he was dead.
Meanwhile, back at the park, Anastasia stood to the side, very much aware of the fact that this human girl was going to lose to Urjasz. He had species and experience on his side compared to this woman who didn’t seem to have a clue what she was doing for the most part. It was one thing to know how to fight with a sword and how to use a gun, but an entirely different thing to know how to fight with a werewolf’s speed and strength. It was one thing to know a person’s weakness and another to know how to utilize it. Anastasia glanced around, trying to make sure that no one was around to see this fight. They might have been out fairly late, but there was no curfew in New York, so there would be people inevitably showing up. “I didn't mean to kill him; she tried to kill my brother and I did what I had to to protect him. It was an accident, I didn't intentionally kill her. That wasn't my intention,” Calliope argued, obviously trying desperately to bargain with Urjasz and save her own hide. Anastasia shook her head. “You still killed her. And eye for an eye,” Anastasia muttered sourly to herself.

When I am seen. I am feared. _______________________ As expected Anastasia stayed out of the fight, but unusually for her she did not protest. He knew she agreed with his actions and even if she wouldn't admit it, she'd like to see this girl suffer. In a move that baffled Urjasz Calliope dropped his guns and tried to defend with her hands. Not a single shot had been fired. She managed to dodge the odd throw but he was quick. Blood was drawn from her check as he began to note her movements. The more she dodged, the more he could predict where she would go next. However, instead of dodging she pulled out a sword. Deciding that any other weapons she may have remaining would be small, he began to dodge the swings and tried to disarm her. Pleas of forgiveness came from the hunter in a bid to get him to stop. "You shot and stabbed her to death. That is no accident. You must pay for what you have done!" he declared, still dodging the wild swings of the sword. Taking up a boxer like stance, he threw in the odd punch past the blade, but focused on hitting the hands that held it. The sword would be useless if she could not lift it. Shifting back into his wolf form he went straight for the next swing. Biting down hard on her arm, he swung his head and let go. To change her he would need to give her his blood but she would not know that for sure. Shifting back in a smooth transition he began to laugh at her. "You have been bitten by a wolf. You will become one of us. One of the creatures you try to kill. So either you kill yourself or you let your brother do it for you."
