Where Your Abilities Fall
The Character Talents
::Strengths::
1. Good Actress
2. Quasi-Ninja
3. Telepathy
::Summary::
Kyla has always been drawn to movies and loves cameras, but she doesn’t use her acting abilities to get her jobs or anything. No, she can get out of trouble by putting on a great act. She can lie through her teeth and had taught herself to cry on command, a skill that she used all the time in school to keep from getting in trouble or yelled at, and even to get extensions on papers or other homework assignments. She can play opossum in a myriad of contexts and has no problem with pretending to be someone she isn’t.
Though she isn’t anywhere near the level of talent and skill it takes to be an actual ninja. . . She is an orange belt in karate and has learned a few bits of Parkour from her friend Anastasia, and as a child through high school she was into gymnastics, so with that she has a few pretty good moves. She watches a whole lot of movies, and she tends to mimic them, too. As a child she played a game called “Logan’s Run,” with two teams. There was more to the game than that, of course. Using an entire neighborhood, one team would hide and the other would seek. Kyla was always last to be found her team always won.
She has the interesting power to read the minds and speak to other weres. This only applies to when she’s in her were form, but outside her were form she can get the gist of what people are thinking. She can’t read the thoughts per se, but she can understand the feelings and use her own power of deduction to kind of figure out what the people are thinking. She has to be focusing on one person, too. She can’t read more than one person at a time, but in her were form she can speak to as many weres as she wants at the same time. They don’t even have to be in their own fuzziness, they can be in their human skin.
::Weaknesses::
1. Dogs
2. Impulsive
3. Painful Shifts
::Summary::
When she was little, Kyla had a bad experience with a few dogs. She was already allergic to them, so her parents wouldn’t let her have one for a pet, though she loved them at the time. However, because of the attack, she has become seriously afraid of dogs. She ignores them for the most part and just avoids going anywhere near them, but should they come to her, even if it was in a friendly manner, she’ll shy away from them. Though she wants to run away screaming, she keeps herself from doing so to keep from looking weak.
Kyla is dangerously impulsive. If something seems good to her, she’ll do it. She doesn’t stop to think about the consequences or just what it is that she’s exactly doing. She often finds herself scrambling to get money together to pay her bills because she buys so impulsively, and she’s been stuck doing stuff she hates because of it. One day it might just get her into a truck-load of trouble, though she doesn’t worry about it because nothing bad seems to ever happen to her. Though, that could just be her optimism talking.
Most were’s shifts are painful the first few times, but it normally diminishes over time. This is not the case with Kyla. Her shifts are always painful, the same amount of pain, and it lasts for a few minutes after she is done shifting. It leaves her momentarily winded and she has trouble moving, but it quickly fades and then she’s off wreaking all kinds of havoc. Whether or not the pain will stop once she gains control of her shifts is unknown, but it’s really a very crippling thing, and in a matter of life and death, those few minutes of pain could be her last.

::Weight::
115 pounds
:Marks::
Tribal whale tattoo and her nose is pierced. Scars around her side, and the most visible one is a scar across her cheek.
::Skin Tone::
Bronze to pale
::Body Type::
Slim and athletic
::Clothes::
Whatever she feels like wearing.
::Summary::
Tall? Not too much. Dark? She’s quite tan. Handsome? Well, she’s not unfortunate-looking. Kyla takes great care of her appearance, and because her mother was Indian, she has the blessing of pretty dark skin, so she gets to be tan. She maintains a steady weight and takes plenty of time in the mornings to make sure that she is looking absolutely fabulous, even if she doesn’t plan on leaving the house. She only wears minimal makeup, and though she remains stylish, she’ll wear any form of style depending on her mood and the weather.
Kyla’s hair is dark and long. She hardly ever wears it up and it reaches to the middle of her shoulder blades. The style she works it in can be straight, curled, waved, or whatever. Her most common is waved. Like her dark brown hair—which can look black in some lights—her eyes are dark too. They’re a rich, chocolate brown and from a distance they can look almost black. She doesn’t wear many accessories, mostly a few bracelets, a necklace, and some earrings.
At the back of her neck, where her neck meets with her shoulders, Kyla bears a tribal whale tattoo. It’s in black ink and starts on one side of her neck and ends at the other, perfectly centered. Most of the time it’s hidden by her hair, but it’s the only tattoo she has, or any defining mark, really. Whales are her favorite animals, so she got a tattoo of the biggest, the blue whale, so she could always have one with her at all times.
Recently she’s picked up a few scars from a meeting with a werewolf that worked for the family. He tortured her for failing to kill someone. Along her left side are long scars from the meeting, but the most prominent one is a long white scar across her cheek, starting at the bottom of her temple and reaching the bottom of her jaw. She can’t really hide it, but she doesn’t really try to. There’s no reason to.

::Summary::
Though she is a few years passed the legal age for drinking, Kyla is still a giant kid at heart. She acts much younger than she is, always cracking jokes—that aren’t always in the best of taste. She knows no boundaries and will cross any line without knowing and can come off as rude because of it. She lazy and immature, but it always makes for a great time. However, she has troubles having a good relationship with it because men don’t like her immaturity, an it’s usually looked down upon for women of her age to date guys fresh out of high school or still in it.
Movies are her life. She sees every new movie that comes out and has watched several old ones as well. By old that means several years before she was born. Kyla likes to mimic movies she sees, and she can be a little crazy with it sometimes. It is because of these movies that she got into anything supernatural. Not just vampires and werewolves, but anything having to do with the genre. Ghosts, spells, anything like that. It’s become a semi-obsession, one that she keeps to herself and talks little of with her friends.
She has just a few general interests, like music and cars. There is little music that she won’t listen to, and she sometimes bar-hops and clubs just to see what new music she can find. She always has her iPod on her and the different devises to make sure she can listen to it anywhere. Like her car. She’s not the richest, so she can’t buy the fanciest car, but she gets by. Her interest is not in maintenance of cars, but makes and models and general automotive knowledge. A car drives by, she can tell you the make an model with little thinking.
There are few things she hates doing, like dancing, cooking, and traveling. She doesn’t know how to dance, and she would rather just not learn. It doesn’t interest her at all and she hates it when people try to get her to. Even when she turns up at a club, she just likes to hang by the bar. Cooking is too much work. End of discussion. She can deal with microwavable foods, but that’s it. She is the most lazy person you will ever meet, and would rather just fetch something straight from the fridge or pantry. Traveling is not her forte, and she would much rather just stay in one town and never have to deal with the hassle of moving. She only likes to go on vacation every now and again.
Though she loves movies, she doesn’t read very often. It takes too much time and that’s time she could be out doing something else. The only books she’s read have been about supernatural stuff, and even then they were just short novels that she ended up not remembering half of what she read. She’d rather be spending her time outside, walking or having fun with her friends or practicing her karate. She’s all about the fitness and would rather be doing that than sitting in the house reading and eating and gaining weight she doesn’t really want to gain. She’s very sensitive about her looks and does all she can to keep up her appearance.
However, when she’s not being vulgar, she actually has a pretty good sense of humor. She knows how to make people laugh, and it’s a defense mechanism she uses to keep her friends happy. Kyla is loyal as a dog to everyone that gets in her good graces. She’ll protect them with her life and she’s often standing up for her friends. However, you better hope you’re not on her bad side. She can absolutely vicious when she has to be, and she makes no bones about attacking someone and beating the crap out of them. However, it is always for protection of herself or her friends.
Her optimism is by far her best feature. She has absolutely no bleak outlook on life and she’s always finding the best in every situation. She’s entirely laid-back and sees no problems in life. It takes a lot to make her angry: you could be insulting her and yelling at her and all she’d do is laugh at you and walk away. Unless she is in immediate physical danger or her friends are, she won’t make a big deal out of a lot of things. She’s a strange girl, but she’s easy to get along with if you aren’t doing anything to her friends or trying to hurt her.

::History::
She was born the only child to Tyler and Leela Martin. They met in high school, Tyler being older than Leela by a year and a half. They dated for a while, and then Leela found out that she was pregnant with his child—she was nineteen at the time. They arranged to marry before the birth—as they didn’t want their child born out of wedlock—and they seemed happy. They were given the gift of a beautiful baby girl, whom they named Kyla.
However, all was not well. It was soon brought to Leela’s attention that Tyler was not the man she’d fallen in love with. He was a drunk, and she was often abused. Afraid that she wouldn’t be able to support her child alone, she remained with her new husband. Her reasoning was that so long as he didn’t life a finger toward her child, she was fine with whatever he could dish out. They mostly just argued anyway, and he wasn’t too violent toward her that she had to make a big deal out of it.
One late night, when Kyla was two, Tyler and Leela were arguing heatedly about Tyler’s drinking problem. Worried and curious, Kyla got out of bed to see what was going on. When Tyler noted that she was up, his anger broke and he yelled at her to go back to bed and proceeded to throw the small child into her bed from the doorway. Kyla was uninjured, but that was the last straw for Leela. Grabbing Kyla, she fled the house and finally demanded that they got a divorce. When he wasn’t in a drunken stupor, he decided that it was the best choice.
A few years later, Leela met Jordan Martin. She was dubious at first of him, but after a while she slowly came to love the man. They married when Kyla was seven, and the family was finally complete. Jordan was a good man and had no drug problems, he had a steady job, and he loved Kyla as if she was his own daughter. Tyler moved to Chicago when Kyla was four, and she hasn’t seen her biological father since she was two. She doesn’t know if she ever wants to meet him, and her mother still holds a mild grudge toward the man.
Worse however, was when Kyla was fourteen and hospitalized. She had been walking home from her school after her last class and she came across a stray dog. She was allergic to them and so had never been able to get one as a pet, but Kyla wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to pet one. Unfortunately for her, she had stumbled upon a Pit Bull that hadn’t had the best of trainers. Calling it over to her and walking toward it, she was promptly attacked. If it hadn’t been for a man passing by on the street, she would have been savaged.
The man ended up having to kill the dog with a Swiss Army Knife he carried around with him, but he hadn’t been so punctual that she had gone with minor injuries, though. Her arms had terribly bite wounds and her chest and stomach had suffered bad scratches from the dogs claws. The man took her to the emergency room where she patched up, but ever since that time she has been terrified of dogs, refusing to go near them or touch them. She was lectured heavily, but for the most part her parents were just glad that she had lived through it, and they were immensely grateful toward the man who had saved her life.
Through the years she had an uneventful life. She went through it without the knowledge of immortals, and she never came across any. That she knew of. She still doesn’t know that her best friend was recently turned into one, a hyena by the name of Anastasia. They had met when Anastasia had gotten a job at the hotel Kyla worked at, and they’d become close friends. However, Anastasia began talking to her about such things, and she found that all of the supernatural stuff she had practically worshipped was true, and now it was her chance to be something more than. . . human.
She was turned immediately when Daktari met with her, and she was given her first job in the first week. However, it was a challenge to kill a werewolf who posed a threat, and she failed such job. As a punishment, the werewolf that worked for the family taught her a lesson in the form of torture. She has scars to prove it, but despite the fact that she has problems seeing sometime and she doesn’t particularly enjoy the wolf’s company, she doesn’t have much issues with the torture. That she likes to admit to, anyway.
After that incident, she met with a werewolf named Kody. For once in her life, she actually loved someone. It wasn’t instant love, as they had started off on the wrong foot, but after a few meetings, they warmed up with each other and Kyla found that she actually did love this man. However, her sire and the family he worked for decided he wasn’t right for her. They were moving to Russia, and she thought it was just a reason to get rid of him, but she and Kody decided that he would move with her. But now, she finds that she has to get rid of Kody, or else Urjasz will have to kill him.
