Kat had noticed that the ice the vampire was kept in was thawing a little. She mentioned something to the other scientists but they didn't take any notice of it. Soon enough the ice thawed away and the vampire broke free. He went on a killing spree killing everyone in the room. He saved Kat for last and he decided to instead of killing her to turn her so she would have to endure the torture of living forever. Since he was an experimental vampire when he bit her he transfered some of his powers to Kat. He died right after she had turned because of the climate he was in; he wasn't used to it therefore it killed him.
