“Darlin’, I think its best that we take the subway home, don’t you think?” Eva struggled to utter a single word, flopping onto the passenger’s window, playfully giggling to herself. Jeff scooped her up from the waist and smacked his intoxicated lips against her own. The two could barely keep their balance as they lavished each other in drunk happiness. “It’s alright babe, I think...” A belch interrupted his speech and Eva pushed her dear love away in disgust, but giggled lightly as she entered her seat. “Lovely dear,” She smiled. “As... I was saying; I know I can drive us home. It’s not that far.” He wobbled and wavered to the other side of the vehicle, almost getting clipped by a passing car. Jeff could barely put his fingers around the door handle. His had tickled at the grip. Suddenly, as he stood their, his glazed eyes slowly turned to his left. There was another car. “Baby?” Eva cooed sadly. CRASH!--- Jeff bolted awake at the sound of the subway scratching to a stop. His dreary eyes darted everywhere before he completely processed where exactly he was. He slumped in his chair as eyes peered confusingly at this strange man who had dozed off on the subway. After everyone had left, the doors slid to a close, leaving only a few people left to reach home. Jeff had worked overtime tonight (he needed to pay his apartment bill soon), and he was seriously regretting the choice. Gukping down some gathering saliva in his throat, he adjusted himself, reaching into his pocket. The perscription bottle popped open with a thumb and he gently shook a pill from the container. The blue and yellow tablet fell from inside and he shot it straight into his mouth. With a rigid glup, he felt the pill cascade down his throat and deeper down into the abyss of his stomach. He was starving when he got onto the subway, but now... all he wanted to eat was the pill. The nightmares had become more frequent. The hauntings of the past were becoming unbearable, even when he was awake. Jeff had skipped out of three days worth of band practice this week and his “mates” were growing concerned. “I’m fine. Just not a lot of sleep.” Jeff said. He would never tell them of his devilish dreams. More like memories of a past that he wished he could forget. He would never tell them of his past. It was unbelievable just thinking about it. “Ugh...” He groaned, lazily dropping his head back against the glass, the lights dancing behind his head. He was trying to start a new life, but this was harder than he thought it would be. It was so easy to forget with drugs, but they are and weren’t the answer to his problems. Nothing could solve them. He had to move on. That was of course, easier said than done. His eyes darted slowly around the subway, spotting the small collection on people tonight. It was dangerous to wander these streets at night, but when duty calls... Just gotta' get home... He said to himself.

a fragile soul caught it's hard to see the pain behind the mask.
Shifting her weight swiftly, Anastasia looked as if she was dancing on spot almost, but it wasn’t quite that bad. She looked nervous, and she definitely felt nervous. The subway was strikingly empty despite the area, and the select few people that were loitering wouldn’t stop looking at her. The eyes on the back of her head and quiet whispers – which sounded like shouts to her immortal ears – were disquieting.
The source of the glances and gossip? The furry creature sitting at the blonde’s side: a full grown spotted hyena, tongue lolling out as he panted. He had just got done running around the park and was still breathless from the romp. It wasn’t everyday these people saw a real life hyena standing in the subway, let alone next to a short girl and on a leash! Was it even legal? Of course they’d find all of the permits in order if a cop showed up and questioned her. . . but who in their right mind would even try to approach her with the wild creature? Kaiser, of course, was as tame as a golden retriever when around Anastasia – a fellow hyena.
Finally, though, the train arrived. Anastasia breathed a heavy sigh of relief and Kaiser the Hyena stood up, sucking his pink tongue back into his mouth as he stood at alert, the sound of the train coming in seeming to worry him a little bit. The train pulled up soon enough though and quelled his fears. Just a giant vehicle. . . nothing to worry about here. They waited for the doors open and a few people to leave before she herself led her little pet aboard the subway, glancing about for a free seat. It seemed like there were plenty to be found. She spared the few people on board passing glances and awkward, friendly smiles when she made eye contact before she sat down on a bench. Kaiser crawled onto the bench with her, his head in her lap.
“We’ll be home soon,” she said to her oversized pet, stroking his head slightly. He looked up at her from the tops of her eyes before shifting and letting out a heavy sigh. The poor thing was tired and he just wanted to go lie down in Anastasia’s bed and sleep the night away. They’d lost Apollo in a fight with a hunter so the large king size bed was still empty even with the two of them in there. Anastasia had a whole pack of hyenas in the back of the mansion. . . but. . . none of them were house trained. Oh how they both missed that hyena. . . .

Jeff could alreadly feel the instantaneous effect of the yellow and blue tablet sloshing inside his empty stomach. His mind seemed to swim away from all thought of the world around him. A glazed grin spread across his face as his worries melted away. He no longer cared for anything. He was prescribed thsese almost a year ago and he never grew tired of the overwhelming relief it gave him. The thoughts of never-ending sadness were flown on top of a dove. It was heaven.
Jeff allowed his head to flop back and forth as the train came to a powerful stop. His eyes wavered slightly as he meditated in peace. Out of utter cocidence, he opened his dull azure irises’ just as the strange woman entered the train. His eyes gaped like saucers as the large beast trotted onto the large snake of machinery. Was that ah... hyena? Was he really looking at this enormous beast. When watching them on television, he couldn’t imagine them being so large, but looking at it now... it was unlike anything he had seen in his life!
He wasn’t frightened of the creature (for some strange reason; he knew he should bene), for animals always had amused and attracted him. Jeff had owned many animals when he was with his parents, and for years as a child he dove into books at Uncle Donald’s; it was his way of escaping the chaos around him. A way to remind him of the good days of his life. He never exactly studied hyenas vicariously, but he recalled that hyenas to him were always a curious animal to him.
Jeff continued to stare at the scruffy animal. He watched as it plopped gently next to the tiny woman and laid its’ head across her lap like a good pooch. Not exactly your normal pet huh? He didn’t even realize he was probably staring very awkwardly at the two. It was just very mesmorizing to see such an animal on a subway!
“Uh... excuse me...” He called softly in her direction. “Is... he... or she yours?”

a fragile soul caught it's hard to see the pain behind the mask.
The few people that were on the train were all glancing in their direction. A few were trying to be discreet about it, but others were just blatantly staring at her. It made her feel nervous, and the small girl just lowered her head and tried to ignore them, rubbing Kaiser’s rounded ear with her hand a little harder than necessary before he glanced up at her and moved his head to nudge her hand with his muzzle. He felt her shattered nerves and wanted to make her feel better. . . but the big beast didn’t know how.
“Uh. . . excuse me. . . .” Anastasia blinked and looked around, unsure if the call had been for her or not. Sure enough, though, a man was looking in her direction – or maybe in Kaiser’s direction, but they were both in the same line of sight – with a question clearly on his mind. Anastasia felt her cheeks warm with a blush, knowing exactly what was coming next. “Is. . . he. . . or she yours?” he asked once he had her attention.
What a silly question. . . why would she be running around with a hyena if it wasn’t hers? However, Anastasia just smiled and stroked her exotic pet from the top of his head as far toward his haunches as her arms would allow. “Hm? Oh. . . yeah. His name’s Kaiser. . . he’s really tame, I promise. Listens really well. . . .” She always felt as if she had to defend the large creature from others. . . they always worried that someone was going to accuse him of being a killer. . . . Sure, he was capable. Anastasia was well aware that hyenas could be dangerous. But she was different from all of those humans with exotic pets. . . she shared some of their DNA as a were.
Kaiser lifted his head slightly to look at Anastasia, and then he turned his head to look at the man she was talking to, ears flicking in his direction, muzzled tilted to the air to scent it. He always knew to tell Anastasia when someone. . . inhuman was around, and as he set his head back down on her lap with another sigh, Anastasia relaxed a little bit. She absolutely sucked at telling who was human and who wasn’t, so having Kaiser around was a blessing.

Jeff watched in utter fascination as the young girl stroked this wild beast like a lap cat. The hyena was absolutely beautiful. The scruffy tip of his head down to the tiny dock tail at the end was a pose of utter wonder. He probably looked like a child staring through a store window at the latest children’s toy. More like a freak!
“Kaiser...” He repeated the name softly and allowed the power to slowly sink in. “He’s a very beautiful animal.” He grinned sweetly, feeling the warm center of his stomach cool to a relaxing medicene. Was this the medication, or was it the harmony of this woman and her companion? It made Jeff smile to see the peace between the two. He was a very negative person at times, but he enjoyed seeing peace for others.
“It’s... cool to see a hyena here in New York. Never thought I would see the day...” He smiled again handsomely to the blonde woman. “The name’s Geoffrey... call me Jeff.”

Kaiser’s ear rotated back as the man spoke again, his eyes darting to his sockets to look at him, but he didn’t move from him spot or even growl. He was too tired to be suspicious. All he wanted was a soft, cushy bed and this damned leash off of him. It was annoying him, but Anastasia always insisted. The young immortal smiled and stroked his ears, making him close his dark brown eyes in bliss.
Anastasia looked up again and smiled, forgetting momentarily about all of the other people – well, all of the five or so – who were staring and starting to get a little braver now that someone had spoken the question that had been on all of their minds. “Thank you. I try to keep him happy. . . . Meat is kind of expensive though. But it’s worth it,” she smiled, trying to throw in a tiny bit of humor as well. Nothing was expensive when she had an uncapped account with a very wealthy vampire family. However, buying all of that meat for the entire pack in her back yard did get a little pricey, and she hated abusing the trust they’d given her.
“It’s. . . cool to see a hyena here in New York. Never thought I would see the day. . . ,” he continued, his eyes still on the hyena for a moment. Anastasia let herself chuckle quietly, and Kaiser shifted on the hard bench. She was sure that not any of these people had ever expected to see a hyena on their commute home. . . or to wherever it was they were headed.
She smiled and replied “Yeah. . . I actually have a few more at home. Kaiser’s the tamest, though. . . the others don’t take too kindly to strangers. Kaiser’s the spoiled one of the pack.” Instantly, though, she wished she hadn’t said it. . . . What would people think if she had a pack of wild African beasts running around at her house? It was like that show Fatal Attractions all over again. . . . Anastasia knew she was safe because of her genetic anomaly. . . or whatever you wanted to call it, but she hated dealing with cops and animal control. . . .
The man introduced himself as Geoffrey, or. . . Jeff, she guessed was what he preferred. It was hard for the young blond girl not to smile back, and she nodded her head. “My name is Anastasia. Everyone calls me Ana, though,” she replied respectfully, stroking her big pet again. “You can pet him if you want. . . he doesn’t bite. Hyena fur isn’t the softest. . . but I’m sure you won’t ever pet a hyena again.” Anastasia smiled, hiding a small giggle.

Jeff glanced around the train and took notice to the large eyeballs prying and gasping at the sight of the two. Was he actually conversating with this strange girl they seemed to want to say? Their eyes hid no secrets or feeling deep in their souls, and Jeff only could scoff at these people. This was New York! There was an enormous collection of very eccentric persons and interesting personalities. Jeff found this situation a large highlight of his life right now.
“Thank you. I try to keep him happy. . . . Meat is kind of expensive though. But it’s worth it,”
Jeff nodded in agreement and releasing a loud chuckle. “I’m very sure. He seems to enjoy the life he has now.” He titled his head and observed the creature more closely. The endless black voids for eyes, the rounded ears bent across his head, the mohawk of fur along his spine, and the powerful paws with a set of vicious nails on each foot. He was absolutely awesome!
“Yeah. . . I actually have a few more at home. Kaiser’s the tamest, though. . . the others don’t take too kindly to strangers. Kaiser’s the spoiled one of the pack.”
“Y-You have more!” The fact that this small girl had more than one in the city. It was incredible he had never heard or seen them from the people of the city. Well, actually, he wasn’t that surprising. The people here were frighteningly like zombies. “It must be quite the house with all of them!” He chuckled.
“My name is Anastasia. Everyone calls me Ana, though,”
“Nice to meet you Ana,” He commented, before adding. “Beautiful name by the way.” He smirked sweetly as he looked back in forth from the owner to the pet at her side.
“You can pet him if you want. . . he doesn’t bite. Hyena fur isn’t the softest. . . but I’m sure you won’t ever pet a hyena again.”
As he was peering, lost in the world of their harmony, he was taken by surprise. “R-Really?” He allowed a small grin spread along his face, the happy child inside escaping. This was the best subway ride ever! He steadily stood from his seat and latched his fingers around the bar dangling above his head. He made sure to be slow. It may be tame, but he didn’t want the hyena to suddenly think he was threat to her owner. As he stared at the collection of scruffy fur, he outstretched his hand to the animal. His hand touched. “I see what you mean.” However, he was not deterred by the gruff fur and gently patted Kaiser. A warm smile and gentle eyes turned to Ana, “He’s incredible.

a fragile soul caught it's hard to see the pain behind the mask.
As she had expected, he was quite surprised by the knowledge that she had a lot more at home. Not a lot, a lot; maybe six more at home plus a few kits that had just been born. A few other people overheard and started to whisper either to themselves or the person behind them, and Anastasia glanced back at them, visibly shrinking under their gazes and their gossip. She was aware that yes, it wasn’t every day or even every year that you saw a girl walking around with a pet hyena, but did they have to stair so much? It was unnerving, and she didn’t know if she should say something. “Yeah. . . I have a big back yard,” she said, her voice quiet.
“Nice to meet you, Ana. Beautiful name by the way,” he commented once their introductions were over. Anastasia would have reciprocated his response, but she was caught a little off guard by his compliment. Easily flustered, a warm blush creeped across her features and she looked down at the ground, smiling to herself, but unsure of how to respond to the kindness. She could take a compliment; she just never knew how to respond.
She found her voice, though, and replied “Thanks. . . . Ah, it’s Russian. I was actually born there. . . my accent has become quite diluted since being here, but. . . yeah,” she scrambled, unsure as to why she went on like that for a moment. Her voice did indeed have a small hint of her Russian heritage, but her knowledge of the English language after spending a few years in New York had diminished it. It was for the better, though. . . she could make her point clear now and people could actually understand her. When she’d first arrived it had a been a rat race trying to learn English.
Anastasia brightened yet again as Jeff seemed all too happy to pet the creature lying on her lap. She nodded her encouragement and placed a calming hand on her friend’s side, hoping he’d behave. Kaiser was pretty good about it, so she wasn’t worried much. He lifted his head as the human moved across the thin aisle to get to her, and he cocked his head, ear flicking. He did what he was supposed to, though, and remained quiet and calm as the man started to stroke his fur. His dark, onyx eyes closed as he relaxed, his chest rising and falling quickly, tongue lolling from his mouth as he panted mildly, growing a little hotter in the stuff subway car. With this new border crossed, a few more people seemed to be inching closer. . . drawn by the exotic animal. Would they be allowed to touch him, too?
“He’s incredible.”
The small blonde looked up at the man and smiled back. “Thank you. Kaiser thanks you too,” she smiled with a light giggle, looking down at her hyena and rubbing his head affectionately. His lips spread in a wolfish grin, a low, pleasant whine hissing through his powerful jaws. His head suddenly snapped to attention, as if caught off-guard by a sudden movement, ears rotating forward. Anastasia didn’t think anything of it, though, and just looked back up at Jeff. “Are you heading home?” she asked, trying to be conversational.

Jeff watched as the small girl shrunk deep within herself as the eyes of the surrounding hawks stabbed at her soul. If they were so surprised, you’d think they’d make it less obvious. However, after thinking about it for a moment, he had to admit their reasoning for gawking was legitimete. I mean, it was a hyena on a subway. Although, they didn’t have to be exceptionally rude as they were. “Yeah. . . I have a big back yard,” she said, her voice quiet. He chuckled in returned. “I’m sure! Quite a hassle to take care of them all; however many you have.”
“Thanks. . . . Ah, it’s Russian. I was actually born there. . . my accent has become quite diluted since being here, but. . . yeah,” Jeff suddenly beamed. “Russia! Amazing. I always wanted to travel there when I was a child. It was....” His grin grew soft as his imagination wandered to the past of his young life. He had traveled to China, South Africa, Canada, Mexico, and Australia with his mother and father. He didn’t remember much of his trips around the world, but he remembered the excitement of each experience. “It was the one place I’ve always wanted to travel to.” And he left it at that. He was never a man to tell the truth of his past. His entire life was a secret to everyone he knew. No matter how close they were to him, he never told anyone.
As Jeff stood, he continued to stroke and pet the incredible animal in front of him. Kaiser was fantastic. He could get past the fact that such an awesome creature had incredibly rough fur. He especially liked his large rounded “mouse” ears. He chuckled and drew his hand slowly from the animal.
“Are you heading home?” she asked, Jeff nodded in return. “Yeah. Although, I am usually home before midnight. Been working late this week. Bills.” He laughed. He then gestured to her. “What about you? Taking Kaiser out for a late night stroll?”

“Yeah. Although, I am usually home before midnight. Been working late this week. Bills.” Anastasia smiled and giggled slightly in response. She knew how it was to work late to pay bills. . . not so much recently, but before she’d gotten involved with a rich, immortal mobster family she’d had a little apartment she’d had to pay rent for and other bills. . . all while working at a Blockbuster and getting money from her single mother living in Russia. She sighed at the thought and stared out the window, watching the brick wall go past. The apartment was still in her name. . . but she couldn’t keep her hyenas there.
“What about you? Taking Kaiser out for a late night stroll?”
She looked a little surprised, but his question brought her back down to Earth at least. She nodded her head and looked down at her alert pet. “Yeah. He likes getting out and seeing the sights,” she explained, rubbing his ear in her hand and making him groan with pleasure for a second, forgetting about whatever it was he had been looking at –
Until the screaming started. The few people that were in the car stood from their benches and pulled themselves into a corner as one man, dressed in a large trench coat, lifted a gun, pointed at Anastasia. When you lived with a house hold of vampires and werewolves – especially when one was a seasoned contract killer – your face tended to show up. Anastasia didn’t know if hunters talked to each other, but it might have been the doing of one red-headed woman named Isi that she was known by a few hunters. . . .
The young blonde just sat there, stark still and eyes wide like a deer caught in the headlights of oncoming car. Kaiser, however, was not about to let the same thing happen to him. A high pitched snarl started in his chest as she shoved himself off the bench and into action. The sound of two silenced shots echoed, followed by Kaiser’s whine, but it was also followed by the sound of tearing flesh and an cry of pain from the man as the hyena snapped his arm with a single bite from his powerful jaws. “Kaiser!” Anastasia shouted, getting to her feet. She didn’t dare move any closer to the man, and blood started to pool as the African mammal got his jaws around the man’s throat.
As quickly as it had begun the scene had ended and the man stopped moving. Blood soaked the hyena’s chest and flank – two shots, two wounds. Kaiser pulled himself away from the body and turned to return to Anastasia’s side. He staggered, whined, and then nearly fell before Anastasia was at his side, holding him up and pulling him into her lap. “Kaiser! Kaiser you’ll be okay!” she said, fumbling to get her hands on his wounds to stop the bleeding.

Jeff was about to comment when suddenly his world started spinning. His ears felt like they were going to implode! An ear-shattering scream echoed in the subway cart and he cringed as it didn’t seem to stop. His mind flashed like a movie reel in his head as the sight of Eva’s terrified expression bore into his sense of mind. However, the pill instantly kicked in, and he no longer took notice to the heart-wretching pain in his heart and soul at the memory of her terrified visage. He felt the world go into slow motion and suddenly a man with a deep black coat rose from the depths and aimed a gun right for Ana. Jeff’s body surged in horror, the deep imprinted cowardness of the human. However his trained mind in fighting shoved his want to cower and he was about to lung forward-
Two shots. A horrid crunch of bones. The delicate drip of blood onto the floor. Jeff, in shock watched as the powerful beast collapsed to the floor, blood decorating his brown scruff. He watched Ana crash to her knees before her friend, clasping the two deep wounds in his body. “Oh my God...” He whispered.
Jeff threw off his thick brown coat and grabbed both ends with his hands. With a powerful tug and a minor groan, he produced the sound of tearing cloth. He quickly handed one half to Ana,” Ana, you cover one as best you can, I have the other! He pressed hard onto one of the wounds, knowing it would hurt, but absolutely knew for sure it would stop the bleeding for a while.
“Someone! Call a medic, a vet, something!” He stared around the cart, seeing their stunned faces. They reacted so slowly. Why hadn’t anyone already done so! “Please, anyone!”

a fragile soul caught it's hard to see the pain behind the mask.
Blood started to soak into her white sweater, staining it a sickening brown, but Anastasia didn’t care. All she cared about was the injured hyena she’d pulled into her lap. She’d already lost so much in her short life. . . when was it going to end? Life had taken her father, sent her family back to Russia, taken the only two people in that god forsaken mansion who had been nice to her, the two whom she’d loved, more recently her best friend in their world. . . and now it was trying to take her pets away from her? Her body trembled with sadness and fear, tears threatening to spill over.
“Kaiser. . . Kaiser. . . ,” she groaned, shifting her hands to keep them over the wounds. She looked up as the sight of a few pieces of cloth fell into her eye line. He was handing her some strips of his jacket it looked like, or something else, and told her to use the side he handed her on one of the wounds. Anastasia nodded quickly and took what he offered, tying it quickly around Kaiser’s flank, shifting to give him room to work on the one around his chest. There was quite a bit of blood, and the Hyena’s chest rose and fell quickly with pain, the occasional whine escaping through his parted jaws. “It’s okay. We’re going to get you some help. My brave, brave boy,” she crooned in his ears.
Next to her Jeff was yelling at someone to help them, to call for help, and a few people reacted, grabbing their phones. It wasn’t going to be good enough, though. Quick enough. The train was coming to a stop as the next station pulled up. They still had a minute or so before the doors opened and the train came to a complete stop, and Anastasia knew that she’d need some help getting out of here. Kaiser was too heavy to be carried by the small girl, and she didn’t know if any vets would know how to care for a hyena. . . .
But the people she lived with would. She turned to Jeff and gave him a pleading look, grabbing his arm with a bloody hand, tears slipping down her cheeks. “Please! You have to help me. I can get him help, but I need you to carry him for me!” she pleaded, looking down at Kaiser as he gave pitiful whine and his legs kicked out as pain lanced through his body when she added some more pressure to one of the jackets. The bleeding seemed to be slowing, but he would still need to get patched up. If Jeff asked, she would explain the shooter later, if it even got that far. “Please can you do that for me?”

Jeff felt a light tug onto his white sleeve and his dull blue eyes zipped into Ana’s direction.“Please! You have to help me. I can get him help, but I need you to carry him for me!” He stared at her with deep assurance; the desperatity presented in her visage caused a painful tug in his stomach. Her angelic irises and sweet voice made his soul reminence to the past. It was like staring at the bloody fragile of his mother, clinging tightly to him, begging him to live, wishing for him to live. She knew that her son, Geoffrey’s life would never be the same. His life would be a painful; torturous. and the very look in her eyes as the police lifted him from the wreckage was deep desolation, loss, and woe. She didn’t want any of what was to come for her child, but she knew that he needed to live, and that was what needed to happen with Kaiser.
“Alright Ana.” He tapped a soft hand onto her arm and a determined stare bore at the young woman. He wasted no time to dawdle. He scooped his arms underneath the massive animal and felt the pounds crush onto his arms as he lifted Kaiser. The animal weighed at least 90 lbs., at least (he had no idea, but all he knew was that he was heavy). He thanked himself for taking in weight training, so lifting the animal wasn’t too much of a challenge. He made sure to be gentle as possible as he fastened his grip around the Spotted Hyena. As he was set to leave, the subway door opened. Thank God this wasn’t in the evening, it would’ve been covered in people! He said to himself with great relief. Still, this was New York, and it was hard no to run into people. A small group was standing in front of their exit and Jeff burst through. “Move! Please move! Out of the way!”

a fragile soul caught it's hard to see the pain behind the mask.
There were a few seconds where Anastasia wasn’t sure if he was going to help her or not. Why would he? He’d just met her and some crazy guy had tried to shoot her. What reason would he possibly have to help her out? A million bribes went through her mind – most of which revolving around money since she had oodles of it thanks to the family she had gotten drafted into thanks to one crazy man on the edge of his ropes. Everyone had their price, she was sure she could find Jeff’s.
“Alright Ana,” he said after a few seconds of some sort of soul searching or something. It had really only been a second or two, but everything had slowed down to the frightened and panicked blonde.
For a few fleeting seconds, desperation filled the young werehyena. “But please I nee—what?” she cut herself off, finally realizing what he had said. He was going to help her! She watched for a second, dumbfounded as he scooped the wounded creature into his arms. The whine that followed was heart-breaking and pulled Anastasia pulled right back into reality, blinking the tears away. She had to be strong for Kaiser!
Getting to her feet, ignoring the white sweatshirt that clung against her skin in a sticky read mess – she could just buy a new one later if it meant that much. The sweater was pretty much ruined now – she stood in front of the doors, glad that they slid open almost as instantly as she was in front of them, leading Jeff through the mess of people trying to get on the train. Once they noticed what was going on though – it was hard to miss a small woman covered in blood and a grown man carrying African wildlife – they parted out of their way, afraid they’d get blood on them or perhaps bitten by the creature.
Hand shoved deeply into her pocket, Anastasia pulled her cell phone from her pocket and hit the speed dial. When it said it was calling, she put it to her ear and then plugged her other ear with her empty hand, weaving through the people and glancing over her shoulder to make sure that Jeff was following with her beloved – and albeit only – friend. When the Novosi on the other line picked up, her mouth was moving a million miles an hour as she prattled on in perfect Russian, glancing around at the signs to let the person on the other line know where she was and that she had a hyena who had been shot. Then of course she had to explain that it wasn’t her.
When the message had been relayed, she hung up and slipped the phone back into the pocket of her jeans and glanced over her shoulders at Jeff, only to get slammed into by a big man trying to go the opposite way. She stumbled and fell down with a grunt, getting snarled at by the man before she just pulled herself to her feet and glared at the man, continuing on. Most of the medical Novosi knew how to treat a variety of animals because of the weres they hired on at the mansion, so taking care of a real hyena would be child’s play to them.
Falling in step beside Jeff, she looked up at him and then at Kaiser. “Someone will be waiting for us on the surface. It might be a few minutes, but they’ll be there. . . and they’ll probably just fix him there. . . I don’t know,” she said, trying her hardest to keep her breathing under control. The steps to the outside world were just ahead. Her hand lifted to stroke’s Kaiser’s ear. “You’re going to be okay.”

ooc: Apologizes for the long wait and short post.
Jeff gripped tightly to Kaiser as their pace quickened to the surface. He had watched Ana’s mouth move like lightning, speaking in what he supposed was Russian. The gruff suaveness of the language had always fascinated Jeff all his life. He had wanted to learn, but never had the chance to sit down most of his life.
“Watch where you’re goin’!” Jeff snarled as the man attacked Ana with profane words. They had accidently crashed into each other, and the only one being the rightful adult was Ana! Jeff would’ve defended Ana as the man shot her a gruff look and a huff of his throat; However, the man was not what mattered right now. They had to get Kaiser help, and fast. He felt as if the powerful mammal was heaving in his arms, his chest trying its best not to faulter.
“Someone will be waiting for us on the surface. It might be a few minutes, but they’ll be there. . . and they’ll probably just fix him there. . . I don’t know,” Jeff nodded in understanding. Hopefully for Kaiser, this help was coming, and for Ana's sake as well. "Who are the people coming?" He questioned, but then looked at her hard. "You don't have to tell me though, I just..." He really didn't know why he wanted to know. He guessed that if she had hunters after her, that maybe these connections were "underground" you could say.
