a fragile soul caught it's hard to see the pain behind the mask.
When he asked who was coming, Anastasia didn’t know if she should answer him right away, but she figured there was nothing wrong with it, even if he said she wasn’t obligated too. She glanced up at him and gave a reassuring – yet very forced – smile, her hand still on Kaiser’s head even as they struggled up the steps to the streets. Anastasia didn’t know how close the Novosi were, but hopefully they wouldn’t have to wait too long: she didn’t know how long Kaiser had. He was holding on really well, though.
“They’re friends of my. . . ah. . . of the family,” she said, floundering for the right words. They weren’t of course her real family, but they were close enough for now. Her mother and brother were in Russia still, her father dead for a few years now. The Novosi weren’t much for conversation or company, but they were around enough and willing enough to humor her, and it kept her from going insane with loneliness – as well as the hyenas that belonged to her.
Fresh air – and a light breeze – welcomed the pair as they escaped the tunnels of the subway, and Anastasia stopped after situating herself out of the way of the people coming in and out, trying her best to ignore the looks and the whispers and the way they pulled out their phones and probably dialed the police. . . . You just couldn’t walk around New York City covered in blood and carrying a wounded animal without having someone call the authorities. However, she took solace in the fact that the Novosi probably would have taken care of that, already. They had connections and would most likely call to tell any authoritive figure that it was under control.
She glanced around, hoping to see a familiar black Mercedes pull up, but there wasn’t anyone. “Any. . . second now,” she whispered, fidgeting where she stood, continuing to glance around and ignore the looks they all got. It only took a moment or two for the black vehicle to pull up. Anastasia sighed and headed toward the car, motioning for Jeff to follow. A man in a suit stepped out of the driver’s side, the car still running, and gave the man a suspicious look. “He’s with me!” Anastasia called. The man hesitated, but slipped back into the car.
Once at the car, the small blonde turned toward Jeff and looked up at him. “They’ll probably go someplace less crowded. . . you can come with me or. . . uh. . . just leave. I wouldn’t. . . blame you if you left or anything,” she said, her hands wringing each other nervously. He shouldn’t feel forced to go with her. The Novosi could handle it from here. . . but some company would have been nice.

Jeff gripped tightly around Kaiser as he spotted the two conspicuous Mercedes drag along the street and pull up to the curb where they stood. Jeff whiffed a heavy scent of the heavy New York air, a scent that always changed with every stride you took on the streets, and most were not very pleasant. His azure eyes caught sight of a burly looking man hopping from the drivers’ side of the vehicle. For a moment, Jeff’s heart raced, spotting the foreboding gaze of the man. “He’s with me!” He heard Ana squeak, and like a loyal hound, the man stood down, hopping back inside.
Whoa... Jeff huffed to himself. It took him a few moments to return to the real world, his mind still haunted by what could’ve happened just then if Ana hadn’t said something. These guys were serious and exceptionally dangerous, and they hadn’t done anything to Jeff yet!
“They’ll probably go someplace less crowded. . . you can come with me or. . . uh. . . just leave. I wouldn’t. . . blame you if you left or anything,” Jeff glanced down in the young girl’s direction and saw the glinted tears in her beautiful visage. Jeff’s heart began to ache and he felt his body relax and his gaze returned to her in a reassuring grin. “I’m coming... I want to make sure everything goes alright. I wouldn’t be able to sleep not knowing if Kaiser was alright.” He wasn’t just doing this for him, but for Ana as well. He could tell this young maiden was lonely. It was loud and clear in his face and body language.
“Let’s get going.” Jeff commented, stepping closer to the vehicle. He then paused, turning in her direction. “Can you open the door?” He said with struggled comedy.

Anastasia beamed up at him when he agreed to come with her – not in so many words – and nodded when he asked for the door to be opened. Her dainty hand pulled at the handle and it swung open. She crawled in first, sliding all the way over to the door and left it open, allowing Jeff to duck in. Once everyone was settled, the Novosi behind the wheel peeled away from the curb and headed toward the park – it was a lot closer than the mansion, and anywhere else for that matter.
Ignoring the occasional glances the man in the front gave them through the rear-view mirror – they were so paranoid – Anastasia scooched over to check on her hyena. He was still whimpering, and the make-shift bandages around his body were starting to get soaked through with his blood, but it looked as if the flow had pretty much stopped. They were going to have to get the bullets out to make sure it didn’t get infected. . . . Hopefully Kaiser could hold on until then.
It didn’t take long for the driver to navigate the streets and make it to the park. He navigated through some of the roads and then came to a stop. Anastasia pulled open her door and then walked around to Jeff’s side, opening that door to let him out. Meanwhile, the Novosi walked around the back of the car after popping the trunk and pulled out a rather mid-sized first aid kit and muttered some directions to Anastasia in Russian: most of the Novosi weren’t quite fluent in English quite yet. Some of them were, but most of them weren’t.
“He wants you to put him on the ground, wounds facing upward,” she relayed, motioning toward a grassy patch off past the sidewalk. “Just a little deeper into the park so people driving by don’t stop and stare.” Already the Novosi was walking into the park, first aid kit in tow.

ooc: You're fine. I should apologize. I didn't mean to disturb you.
The brown haired male felt a twist in his stomach as he watched the “Novosi” men move about the two like wolves on a carcass; their eyes were like empty holes, shells of mystery. They were tough, monstrous looking and reminded him of wild beasts of the stories his father would tell him to purposely frighten him. He recalled the day he was saved by the police in the accident and men with gruff stares and black suits trampled in with his relatives in toe. His family were devils, and every devil has their minions. He recalled the feeling of cloth encase his face, two men in dark coats gripping his tiny body and throwing him into the back of some transportation vehicle. He didn’t know how long he was in their, but when he was released, he found himself in a new world. France.
Ana’s sudden retort snapped him back into reality. He hadn’t even realized that they had stepped out of the car. His azure eyes shuddered a moment, as it thrown off by what he was staring at. “Oh... Okay...” He turned in the direction he was presented and made sure to be delicate with the elegant beast in his arms. He felt the hoot blood from the animal seep into his skin, staining his body like a dye. He smelt the sting of open flesh and the burning ash of the bullet in the animal’s skin. He prayed that Kaiser and Ana would be alright. Ana was not physically harmed, but if something happened to this creature... he was sure not bullet could equal to the agony.
Once he reached the drop site, he gently placed the animal in the designated spot, making sure to keep his wounds upright. “Its okay buddy... they’ll fix you up...” Jeff couldn’t help but reconcile the animal, knowing that he would not respond or even understand... maybe.
Jeff turned to Ana. “I’m guessing leave the rest to them.” Even as he spot, he was steadily backing away, giving the Novosi space. He returned to Ana’s side, peering at Kaiser, then returning his gaze to the small blond girl beside him. “How are you holding up?” He whispered with deep concern in his voice.

a fragile soul caught it's hard to see the pain behind the mask.
Anastasia felt a great wave of gratefulness to this man – still practically a stranger – and all he’d done for her. She’d just met him not but half an hour ago and already he’d almost gotten shot at, was covered in her pet’s blood, and had gotten in a car with a complete and fairly dangerous stranger. Had he caught on to the fact that the man with them was a vampire? Did he even know that these things in the world existed? It wasn’t every day you met someone as kind as this man, and Anastasia thought that finally her luck had turned around.
But that notion was quickly kicked aside when her eyes rested on her wounded friend again. He was in such a pathetic state. . . blood seeping from his wounds, soaking the jacket Jeff had so kindly given up for her. . . . She would have to make sure she made it up to him and bought him a new jacket. . . a nicer jacket. And maybe pay for a new outfit altogether. . . could dry cleaners get out blood stains? Would he even want to go to a public place like that with a shirt stained with blood? Would she ever be able to make it up to this kind acquaintance?
She backed up alongside Jeff to give the Novosi his room to work. Once they were out of his way, he kneeled and popped open the kit and went straight work. Jeff turned to look at her and the short blonde returned the gesture, glad for any sort of distraction from the medical operation going on a few feet away. Already her stomach was turning at the thought of having of her beloved hyena cut into, but it was necessary. She still couldn’t get it out of her mind that this was all her fault. Maybe she just shouldn’t leave the mansion ever. Just lock herself inside it and spend the rest of her immortal life there, in her room, coming out only to eat and for hygiene. . . maybe then people would stop getting hurt. Dying. Or just leaving her.
He asked her how she was holding up, and she looked up at him, her expression slightly dazed, but overall she looked lost and unsure, eyes glistening with tears that had yet to fall. Anastasia was trying so hard to remain collected, to retain her composure and keep from breaking down entirely in front of this man, in front of the Novosi. Most of the vampires that held residence in the mansion knew about Anastasia’s break downs, but she still hated having them when there were people around. She would much rather just suffer in silence, by herself.
“I—I don’t know,” she muttered, looking down at the ground and sniffing loudly, wiping her eyes with her arm. Why. . . why did this always happen when she was just starting to get used to things, just starting to get over the last death, the last disappearance.

The tall man watched as these strange men worked on Kaiser. Their lightning fast reflex seemed almost unnatural to him. He had no idea of the world outside his own. He wasn’t closed minded at all, just that the situations of the supernatural in the world hadn’t hit him. Yet. He felt an ominous chill creep at just the glance to the Novosi. Something was wrong with them. They didn’t seem safe. What were they? They looked human... and yet.
Jeff watched as Ana tried to be strong, her body language was that of a shuttering child, trying to hide their feelings. She was so tiny, so delicate and fragile looking, especially when with her dear pets, and now, she look unnaturally small; alone. She needed company, she thrived on comfort and Jeff felt obligated to give her what she needed. It was embedded in his mind to help those in need, and he had a soft spot for women, since they were such a important part of his survival in the past. His mother, Trinity, Eva... all his savors.
“It’ll be alright Ana...” He said kindly to her. “Kaiser is going to be fine,” then he whispered, “If you need to cry, I am here. It’s alright... there is nothing wrong, because I am your friend Ana.” He hoped he wasn’t scaring her . He had just met the young blonde, but he felt that she needed someone to talk to. Her animals were her best companion, but like the Last Lioness, she still thrived for her own kind.

a world she can't rise above hard to see the pain behind the mask “It’ll be alright Ana. . . ,” Jeff assured her. She looked up at him and nodded her head. “If you need to cry, I am here. It’s alright... there is nothing wrong, because I am your friend Ana.” Now she looked quite taken aback, but not in the least bit afraid. She just stared up at him, her eyes wide and tears filling her eyes again. Friend? He probably shouldn’t have been admitting to that. . . bad things happened to her friends. All the time.
She shook her head though, and hung it lightly, wiping her tears off on the sleeve of her jacket, but only succeeded in smearing a little bit of undried blood across her cheek. Her white coat was completely ruined now, stained a sickening brown color from her hynea’s wounds. “I-I’m fine,” she insisted, sniffing loudly. She was tired of crying, and she still held out hope that her hyena was going to be fine. The Novosi knew what they were doing, and they wouldn’t let Zakhar’s pet project down, would they? If Daktari was still around, he’d probably kill them if they let her hyena die. Now she was alone except for when Urjasz decided to grace the mansion with his presence, but he wasn’t nearly as homicidal as Daktari was.
The Novosi worked for a few minutes, removing the bullet carefully from his chest and patching up the flank wound he had received. Each time the hyena let out a whine of pain, it tore Anastasia’s heart apart. She ended up searching for the comfort Jeff had offered with, grabbing his hand with her and clutching it tightly, her tears falling silently from her red-violet orbs. She was doing really well to keep herself calm, though, and just waited patiently until the two vampires had finished their work.
Muttering to her in Russian, the Novosi strolled up to the short blonde while the other finished bandaging up her pet. She nearly collapsed with relief when he gave her good news, and she choked back sobs of joy as the other vampire heaved the massive beast without much effort into his arms and headed for the car. Anastasia thanked them both eagerly in Russian, wiping the tears from her eyes before turning to face Jeff. “Thank you for helping me. . . . What can I do to repay you? Do you need a ride anywhere?” she asked, cocking her head to the side, more than willing to repay him for helping a stranger in need.
Notes: sorry for the late reply. . . been busy lately. D:
