XITLALLI → SUMMER HAS COME AND PAST THE INNOCENT CAN NEVER LAST HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN DRENCHED IN MY PAIN AGAIN BECOMING WHO WE ARE ← The soothing sound of rain pattering against the pavement echoed through the silent, abandoned walls of cracked buildings and unused warehouses. It was a torrential downpour, but luckily there was no wind, making it seem like the sky was dumping buckets on the quiet land known as New York City. For hours already it had been raining like it was, drenching the world under it in sky water. Just south, though, moonlight shown. The storm would pass in minutes.
A lone figure strode through the shower as if there was nothing wrong. It held no umbrella, nor walked with the urgency of someone who wished to remove themselves from the torrent of ice-cold rain. In fact, the figure seemed dry. The outline suggested female—the impeccable hourglass silhouette was the deciding factor—and her hair was dry and loose around her shoulders, raven-colored and straight. She walked with the smallest of pleasant smiles, one hand over her head. Around her the rain fell, but she remained completely dry. Mud was clumped around the soles of her shoes from walking through the muck, but that was from the dirt in front of her that the rain had already gotten to.
To anyone around her, it would look like the Aztec princess was being rained on, but there was a small bubble of dry air around her. Her raised hand was redirecting the droplets and allowing her to remain untouched by the water.
Xitlalli stopped once she was in the middle of an empty lot and tipped her cranium back to look up at the abysmal sky, the varying shadows and highlights the only evidence that there was still clouds above her. Slowly, the dark-haired vampire lowered her arm and let it drop to hand limp at her side. It took a split second—just long enough for her to close her eyes—and then the rain crashed down on her, soaking her in a few seconds. Her arms lifted slightly as she reveled in the feeling of the water against her cold skin, a smile stretched across her face. However, it only lasted for a few seconds before the rain stopped, a single bolt of lightning arching across the sky and lighting up the dark air.
The rain had stopped. Xitlalli let herself stand there for a second, her head straight now, eyes still closed. She loved how this felt. The water on her skin. . . . Her eyes snapped open: there was someone there now, watching her. As fast as the lightning that had appeared moments before, a knife was drawn from somewhere on her person and with practiced ease she tossed it in the direction of the other vampire she felt. It was not a hostile move, as the other vampire could easily evade the attack. It was an announcement; I know you’re here.

Max had only been back in New York for a few hours. He had just gotten off of his flight back from over in England, where he had disposed of a few troublesome criminals the British authorities had been unable to handle, so far. Of course, the men had been no match for Max. He was a vampire, afterall, far superior in speed and strength, not to mention his ability to manipulate water. The men, who had attempted to shoot him with guns, had failed miserably. He'd left them a huge bloody mess splattered all over the insides of their hideout.
That one, though, hadn't been a paying job. He had undertaken it all on his own once he'd heard what those men were doing to young girls. They had been kidnapping them and selling them into slavery as whores, where many of the girls were forcibly addicted to drugs to make them submit to their new "owners'" wishes. Those kinds of people sickened Max. He didn't understand what the purpose in it all was. Sure, they were able to get money, but there were other ways to do it without harming innocents.
It had been raining here in New York almost since he'd returned, almost like the skies themselves were weeping in joy at what he'd done for the girls those men had forced into slavery. He hadn't done it for any kind of reward or praise, though. He'd done it because it was the right thing. Those girls needed saving, and he was the one that had done it. End of story.
As he walked, he took note of two men walking down the street behind him, following him. They were carrying umbrellas, and following behind him at a short distance. He couldnt' tell really well if they carried weapons on them, but he was sure they did. There weren't many who walked around in New York City without some form of protection.
He decided that he wanted to test these men, and so he began walking down a series of back-alleyways, trying to lose the men following him. It did no good. They just continued following him. He knew then that they were planning on trying to mug him when they thought the time was right. Only, they didn't realize that doing so would be the end of them.
As Max reached a small branching in the path, the path to the left leading back to the road and the path to the right to a small, empty lot. In the middle of this lot was a woman, standing there with her arms outstretched. She was soaked through to the bone. It only took a few moments for himt o identify her as another vampire. He could only assume she'd done the same in regards to him. That meant that, hopefully, he should expect no trouble out of this woman.
Finally tired of following behidn him, the men decided to take advantage of Max's pause to advance on him, dropping their own umbrellas in the rainwater and quickly surrounded him. At this same time, the woman had thrown a knife at him. Max didn't exactly understand why, but it was easy enough for him to take care of. It was thrown carelessly, like she didn't expect it to hit. She only intended as a warning, perhaps. Either way, as it neared him, Max reached up and snatched it out of the air by its handle.
"Why don't you two leave, before someone gets hurt?" Max asked the two men who had surrounded him,"I'd rather not have to deal with this."
"Fat chance! Hand over your money! Now!" one of the men, the bigger one, said as he pulled a handgun from his jacket pocket. The other one, likely the follower of the duo, pulled a knife, and began advancing on Max.
"Fine....you asked for it," he said to them, his voice barely audible over the roar of the rain. He just stood there, staring downt he barrel of the gun aimed right at his forehead, and then he unleashed a watery hell on these men.
First of all, within just a few moments, he created a large sphere of water, and sent it flying at the man with the knife with all the intensity of a cannonball. the watery projectile collided with the man right in the middle of his torso, literally ripping him in half and spreading his guts all over the alleyway behind him.
The other man, terrified at what he had just seen, opened fire on Max. The vampire, however, merely used his vampiric speeds to dodge the bullets and he ran up to the man, slashing out with the knife he'd caught from the woman in the lot, and sliced one of his hands clean off. He then grabbed him by the collar and jammed the knife into him repeatedly, pushing not only the blade but also his entire hand entirely through the man's body. After a few moments of this, Max tossed the knife to the side and bit the body on the neck, draining what blood was left in him. Then, he let the man fall to the ground.
Bending to retrieve the knife he'd dropped, which had already been washed clean by the rain, Max walked towards the other vampire standing there in the lot. She had just been watching the entire thing. Of course, being a vampire, she wouldn't be phased by violence. Her entire existence revolved around it. Just like his.
"Here is your knife back," Max said, licking what little blood the rain had left on his lips off,"I thank you for letting me borrow it. "

XITLALLI → SUMMER HAS COME AND PAST THE INNOCENT CAN NEVER LAST HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN DRENCHED IN MY PAIN AGAIN BECOMING WHO WE ARE ← The rain was thick and when Xitalli did not hear the knife hit anything, she narrowed her eyes. Nothing was retaliating, and she heard the voices clear as day and saw the forms of men off just a little ways. A scuffle. She recognized her blade in the vampire’s hand and it didn’t take long for her to put two and two together. The Aztec vampire turned her entire body to face this tussle, her long dark brown hair clinging to her face and neck. She did not have the impeccable sight of a shifter, but she could make out the idea of what was going on. . . . And she decided not to intervene, but to watch.
Xitlalli’s fingers twitched and a pulse went through the air, originating from the vampiress herself. The pulse extended well past the men but fizzled out soon after reaching the woman’s limits, and following the pulse was a long pause in the rain, as if something was flying overhead that could block the water from falling. All of it was so that Xitlalli could get an even better idea of what was happening, and the pulse had managed to pull most of the water off of her body, and the protective bubble had been replaced over her as some unknown force pushed the rain away from her like an invisible umbrella. Anyone looking in on her would be unable to see the bubble, as the rain was fairly thick.
With a neutral gaze, Xitlalli watched the fight without flinching, and with a sort of muted curiosity. It seemed the humans had been planning to mug him. Had they known he was a vampire they might have thought twice, but alas. . . the poor humans had no way of telling the difference. It was a fatal mistake, it seemed, as the vampire brought down the two humans with the knife she had inadvertently lent him, though it had meant as a warning—a message, letting this other vampire know that she knew he was there and he would not be able to sneak up on her.
As it seemed, he had merely happened upon her by chance.
He made his way toward her and cleaned her blade and she merely watched him for a second, slowly lifting her hand to take it from him. As her hand neared his, he would feel a sudden void of rain on his hand, and then feel it return as she receded, placing the dagger back in its hiding place. She bowed her head respectively, her dark eyes now scrutinizing this other vampire.
He had been using the water too. He was clearly not from her own origin, and she wondered if perhaps he had been blessed by another god, as she had been when she had been born. But the chances of that were very low, unless gods went around and did these things all the time. . . . She did not know, and she could only accept it as she saw it. Perhaps it was an attempt to make people believe in them more, to have faith in them. Xitlalli did not know how the gods and goddesses worked, only that she had been given an incredible opportunity and she would not squander it. She was here to do her deities’ work, not to frolic and play.
“If that is how you would like to see it, then you are most welcome. I appreciate you for returning it to me so promptly,” she responded cooly, her eyes on him and not the grisly scene behind him. What was done was done, it was neither here nor there anymore. They had asked for it, and though killing them might have been one of many options, it was the one that had already been taken. “I apologize for throwing it at you. I am always a little more sketchy when in this city. You would not believe how violent the people taking residence here are.”

"You wouldn't believe how violent the people of the entire world have become," Max said as the woman took her knife back,"And the vampires I've seen around this city are even worse, consumed by their own desire for human blood and lust. You my friend, are a welcome exception to this."
Max turned and looked around. There were no more vampires nearby. That was good. That meant the woman wasn't trying to trick him, and she was just out here on her own. Why, though? What purpose would a vampire have for coming to New York City and coming here of all places? Surely she was looking for someone to feed on.
Max, however, quickly discarded that idea. If she was, she would have been traveling through a more populated area, ready to pounce upon her prey the moment they wandered off alone. No, this woman was here for another purpose. Perhaps it involved Max, perhaps it did not. He couldn't know for certain.
"My name is Max," He said, giving her a small half bow, a habit that he still hadn't been able to lose even after nearly two centuries of trying to kick it,"May I ask yours?"

XITLALLI → SUMMER HAS COME AND PAST THE INNOCENT CAN NEVER LAST HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN DRENCHED IN MY PAIN AGAIN BECOMING WHO WE ARE ← Ali’s expression remained neutral, but she tilted her head down as if in mourning, then shook her cranium after a few seconds. “The world had always been a violent place. My people were known mostly for their violent sacrifices and their blood-thirsty ways. Humans have always been fighting with each other for various reasons. It is just surprising to see it concentrated all in one area,” she reminisced, tilting her head to the sky to watch the rain fall. The rain that wasn’t hitting her anymore.
She sighed slightly and looked back at him. They were both alone now, and Xitlalli wondered how much longer this exchange would last now that his job had been finished and she had retrieved her knife. “Though I perhaps it’s happening in a lot more places. Perhaps I should not be as surprised as I am after all. I misspoke.” Xitalli bowed slightly at the waist as if in apology and then straightened up again, lifting her hand to pull a loose strand of hair out of her face and tuck it behind her ear. The rain had started to cease finally, but it didn’t get any brighter, thanks to the darkness that came with the night. Xitlalli didn’t like being grouped with vampires, but she was aware that it was the most common thing she really could be related to.
The man introduced himself and Xitlalli looked at him for a moment. Max. That was a rather American name, wasn’t it? He must have been a young vampire, or at least younger than her. He fought like a younger vampire. . . all vicious blows and no finesse to it. She merely nodded her head. “You may ask me my name,” she replied flatly, and then just stood there, staring at him expectantly. Then she sighed. She knew that the question hadn’t been meant to take literally, but he should have just asked her her name in the first place. Shaking her head she replied again with “My name is Xitlalli. You may call me Ali if you so desire. Most people from this time prefer to.”
