Ethan wandered aimlessly down the side-walk in Mott street, Chinatown, looking for something to do under the early night's sky. He passed busy restaurants, moving in and out of crowds of people who laughed and talked amongst themselves as they moved purposefully to their next destination. The street lights just watched from above, casting a blanket of unnatural light on the night's proceedings.
Ethan stopped momentarily at one of the many small stands set up beside the road, selling anything from fruit to cheap trinkets to pirated movies. He had noticed a deck of cards from an old game he once enjoyed as a kid, but apon examination he discovered the colours faded and lettering in a strange font.
"Fakes," he muttered to himself before putting the deck back. He didn't even like the game any-more, why had he even bothered to stop and look? He thought for a moment before he realised. It was because he was bored, and he wanted something to do.
Ethan sighed, pulling back his jacket sleeve to look at his watch. 9.30pm. He needed to comtemplate his options. He thought of hitting up a club, he had his fake ID on him. But it would be expensive, and he was close to broke. Or he could go home, he could make it back by ten and enjoy a fun night in, although it would probably be alone. 'I wonder if Rodney's out tonight?' he thought.
Before he could make out his mind, however, he came to a stop to the right of a narrow, unlit back alley. Unlike the street, which was lit brightly by the ever glowing street lamps, the alley was shrouded in absolute darkness. A mystery, an unknown. An alley he hadn't travelled down before. Before he thought about his actions, Ethan instinctively veered off the street and into the shadows.
It was black but, after squinting and allowing his eyes to ajust, Ethan's surrondings came into view. The passage went on for about ten metres, three metres wide between two brick walls, before veering around a corner and off to the right, out of sight. Steam waded through the air out of a small, grated vent in the ground. A single cardboard box sat against the left wall. Somebody's former bed?
Ethan decided to explore this alley futher. The unknown was exicting and risky. Besides, it wasn't as if he had anywhere else to go. If there was nothing there, he could always just go home.

About nine o'clock, that was plenty of time for her to walk around, 'eat', and play with some human or Were before she had to be at work at midnight. Exactly where to go though? Bronx were to far from where she was and she didn't feel like taking the subway. Staten Island? No. After wandering for fifteen minutes, just heading where ever her feet took her, the vampire realized that she was walking towards Chinatown. That seemed like the best place to go, anyway.
Scarlette tossed her hair back, the blonde waves lightly touching the back of her bare neck. A very soft breeze ruffled it slightly. She walmed slowly, taking her sweet time, yet she could still feel some stares from people shopping, some scrutinizing how she dressed. It was kind of peaceful, though, knowing that none of them knew you.
Out of sheer curiousity, Scarlette headed down an allyway. Someone else was behind her, far behind her. He or she probably didn't even know she was there or hadn't noticed her. Or maybe that was her being paranoid. Scarlette walked for a little bit and then stopped. The only scent that she could find was that of the chinese food and humans that inhabited this part of the city. How boring.
Ran her hand through her hair, she was about to start walking but the sound of footsteps made her pause. Scar turned with such speed, that she had nearly become a blur. Her gray eyes stared into the shadows until she made out the figure of a person. Scarlette tilted her head in a curious fashion, her eyes half closed. This guy smelled awfully good. She shook her head lightly to get the idea out of it. Maybe her would be her meal... probably not. Blinking, she mused innocence. "Hello? Who's there?"

Ethan came to a sudden halt as a voice called out from the darkness. Instinct made him bend his knees in a defensive pose, arms out by his side. But a grin cracked on his face. Turns out there was someone down the alley. By the sound of it, a girl. Squinting, he noticed the silhouette of a person down the alley, blurred through the smoke wafting from the air vent.
If Ethan had thought about it, a complete stranger standing in a dark alley late at night is quite a potentially dangerous thing. And if he had thought, he might have realised just how stupid standing in that alley and talking to said stranger was. But Ethan didn't think. He reacted on instinct, the thrill of the danger edging him on rather then turning him away.
"Er, hi." The human called back, unsure of what to say. He paused for a moment, unsure of exactly what to say. "Just your friendly neighbourhood explorer here." It was lame, granted, but it was the best he could think of without using his name. Ethan winced in embarrassment at the words that had just come out of his mouth.
Ethan took another few steps forward to gain a better view of the girl. He had dropped his arms back into a casual pose, looking as non-threatening as possible. Not that he had to try to achieve that, as skinny as he was. "Who are you?"
For better or worse, Ethan moved futher into the alley and away from the safety of the street. His direction was unclear, but his immediate situation had become less boring. And at the moment, that was all Ethan could think about.

Scarlette gazed at the boy, trying to keep her distance. They were still much too close to the street for her to want to even think about attacking. Dinner or no dinner, she’d rather stay alive and undetected. She tried not to laugh at what the boy said, though she failed. A light chuckle escaped her lips. ’Friendly neighborhood explorer? More like delicious neighborhood snack,’ [/i] she thought to herself. She ran a hand through her hair as he took a few steps towards her. She herself took a step back, slowly. She let herself look as innocent and non-threatening as possible. ”Me? Oh, just the usual New York girl getting ready for work,” she answered him. ”Most people call me Scar, though. It’s a nickname of sorts.”She smiled at him and took a couple more steps backwards. The vampire was thrilled that this boy kept moving forward. The farther away they were from the street, the safer she would be. She just hoped to whatever gods that were out there that a hunter didn’t come here. It would ruin her chances and she didn’t want to go back to work hungry… again. ”What do people call you?” she asked him, blinking softly. Scarlette could feel the smoky air of the vents caressing her. They were perfect cover.[/blockquote]

Ethan's embarrassment from his earlier joke had dyed a little at her laughter, but he still wasn't sure if she laughed at the joke or at him for making it. 'It doesn't matter,' he told himself.
Ethan came within a metre of the girl, close enough to be able to make out her features in the dull light. She was his age, perhaps a year or two older. Under the cover of darkness it was hard to determine her hair colour, but he managed to pick some form of blonde, shoulder length. Scar, she called herself.
Ethan felt he had to stop. The girl began to slowly move backwards away from him. Perhaps she was a tad scared, despite the simile on her face? Understandable if she was, given their location. She certainly wasn't threatening Ethan, and didn't want to scare anybody. He moved a step to the right and lent his back against the wall, arms folded casually, leaving a good two metres for someone to move pass him on his left if they wanted to. Offering an exit was a good way to appear innocent. Which Ethan was.
"Getting ready for work in a dirty alley?" Ethan replied, half chuckling as he did so. The strange this was how little it surprised him for someone to be hanging in an alley before work. In New York, it seemed everyone he met preferred secluded places. "Scar. Nice name, sounds kinda dangerous. I'm Ethan."

LAUGH AND COME AND LOOK INTO ME
SCARLETTE MASEN
DRIPS OF MOONLIGHT WASHING OVER ME
CAN I SHOW YOU WHAT YOU ARE FOR ME
Scarlette blinked her eyes a couple of times, making sure she could see him perfectly. She could see that he had been examining her, in a sense. Trying to figure out she looked was her guess. She hoped that the scars that covered the upper portion of her arms weren’t visable. She swept her bangs to the side and mimicked the boys action, moving over a bit to allow whatever it was he was trying to allow.
Scar bit her lip lightly, knowing how stupid and suspicious getting ready for work in an alleyway was. Sighing, she nodded. ”Yep, pretty much. Well, I was just a bit bored and needed something to do till it’s time for me to go to work. I bartend, normally the later shift… I’ve got a lot of time,” she told him. She decided to take a small step forward, so she could try to get a better look at him. All she could really see was dark brown hair.
The vampire chuckled a bit again when he said her name sounded dangerous. ”Like I said, Scar is only a nickname. Ethan you say, that’s a pretty neat name,” she told him. She thought about why he was down here, what he had said earlier. Just an explorer… ”Why did you decide to explore an alleyway, Ethan? It must be some explorer to do that.”

Ethan watched as Scar swept her blonde hair out of her face, moving to the side of the alley with him. As she drew closer he could make out her clothing in more detail. Chains looped through her skirt, she wore a chocker around her neck. Much more intricate then the simple dark jeans and black jacket he was wearing. "Bar-tending huh? Must be one awesome bar if that's what you wear there." Ethan commented. "Why I came down the alley? I dunno. Was just bored I guess." He glanced around. The alley was disgusting, run down, dark and dirty. Not exactly the kind of place one goes for entertainment. Yet that is exactly what he had done. "It seemed like a good idea at the time..." It was all Ethan could think to add before trailing off. He turned his attention back to Scar. His gambit into the alley had paid off, at least for now. He had met Scar, and even if it only lasted a few minutes or they interacted for a fair bit longer, people were always fun. • FEATURING - - Scarlette, Open • SETTING - - Alleyway in Chinatown • WEARING - - Dark Jeans, white shirt, black jacket. • NOTES - - Hi! I DREAM IN DARKNESS I SLEEP TO DIE
SCARLETTE MASEN
ERASE THE SILENCE ERASE MY LIFE
OUR BURNING ASHES BLACKEN THE DAY A WORLD OF NOTHINGNESS BLOWS ME AWAY
”Eh-hehe… I tend to wear what I want on days like these. Depends on the bar I’m working, though. Tonight, I’m working just outside the Red Light Distract, so I wear things like this,” she explained to him. She took a small step towards him, the pulse in his veins pulsing in her ear. The temptation was there, and she was so hungry… but she couldn’t. Not in an alleyway like the one they were in. She would just have to lead him farther down.
”Boredom can be a dangerous thing,” she giggled, stepping back slightly. She was kind of pleased that her stupid pheromone control thing wasn’t really working for this guy. It would be a bit awkward… maybe. She did always think it was the coolest part of being a vampire, especially since not all vampires did it.
She tilted her head lightly. ”Do you really think it was a good idea? I mean, you are in New York City, you never know what creatures of the night might be lurking there,” Scarlette said a tad playfully. Why not have fun while I have it? she asked herself.

Ethan grinned. He meant no disrespect by what he was thinking, he had met plenty of people with jobs in the area during his nights in New York, but he could easily see this girl working in New York's red light district. She had the look, and judging by the location they were standing in, she seemed to have the guts. Maybe she had the strength too.
A sudden tension built up in Ethan's neck as Scar took a step closer, although Ethan couldn't tell why. A smell past through the air, so faint and fast the boy nearly missed it, a scent different from the usual population in the alley. Still grinning, he tilted his head to the side quickly, cracking his neck and recovering.
"Creatures of the night?" he replied, "You mean like street scum and homeless? Eh, there's not that many around any-more. The media hype up the danger they present far too much." Ethan laughed. In all his time in New York, the boy had yet to be mugged, assaulted or raped by criminals who hunted in New York at night. And this was someone who went out looking for trouble.
Let, perhaps there was a reason for that. Perhaps, something was those people from leaving at night, was killing off those who lived out here. Somethings. There was an box behind him. An empty bed? Had something taken the owner in his sleep? Ethan had met a supernatural in New York. That were had been friendly, but could they all be? Something had tried to kill him once, something he had long stopped believing was human.
Ethan pushed the ridiculous idea out of his head. Chances are, that box was just a box, used for storage in a nearby restaurant and then dumped.
Still, sudden doubt entered his mind. "Unless, you mean something else by creatures of the night, don't you...." Ethan trailed off, the grin still on his face,

Scarlette chuckled. ”The media hype hasn’t really stopped many of the scum you speak of. You just don’t know where to look,” She said rather nonchalantly. Shrugging lightly, she mused a yawn and focused on breathing a bit. No need to scare the boy. She wasn’t a human any longer, but she still liked to pretend sometimes.
She stretched very lightly, feeling a bit bored from lord knows what. Not that she wasn’t having fun, just not as much fun as she wanted to.
A sly smile seemed to etch itself onto her lips and she felt her feet stepping back a little bit. There are many legends, you know. We aren’t all that is living here. Or maybe we are, “ She said with a shrug. ”I’ve heard that a long time ago, though.” Scarlette got a curious feeling. Did he know of supernaturals already? She gave him a curious look. ”You know some, don’t you?” She blinked her eyes before saying a bit of advice Dustin’s mother had told her long ago. “There is always something else out there, we just don’t know it yet, so always keep on your toes and don’t trust all you see.”
She didn’t mean much by it, and she definitely wasn’t telling him not to trust her, though that would be in his best intentions. But she wasn’t going to kill him, it would be a waste and she didn’t need to be saw as a criminal. Hunters would find her for sure.
Trying to change the topic, she asked him, ”Do you have a job, or are you still in school?”

Scar's words penetrated Ethans mind, bringing back trains of thought had kept him up for several nights after his first meeting with a supernatural. She'd been a were, one who can change into an animal, in this case a fox. How many weres were there? What other species existed? How could one tell them from normal humans? Or couldn't one? Scar hinted that she knew of the supernatural as well. Parhaps she had answers to some of the questions in Ethan's head.
Yet Ethan wasn't sure that was what she was hinting at. Parhaps he misunderstood something, parhaps he was just hoping for answers. The boy turned his head slightly to the side for a second, thinking. Deciding it was unlikely she could tell him anything, he moved on, but her advice still rang in his head. 'Don't trust all you see.'
He answered her question. "Work." Ethan replied, "I'm from Australia, finished school just over a year ago. Horrible year that was..." Ethan could sense boredom beginning to take over Scar. It was clear in the way she yawned and stretched. "I don't suppose you know what's down the other end of the alley do you?" He nodded past Scar, in the direction leading away from the street. Ethan knew most of New York well, but in a place so large it was impossable to know everything.
Notes: Good luck with Finals. Soz for delay, been away for long weekend (3 days).

She smiled at him sweetly, though she felt sick to her stomach about acting so nice. Maybe her past really was getting to her. ”You went to school in Australia? Wow. That sounds like a fun place to live.” She spoke as if she was interested, musing all the right actions, though the only real thing on her mind was the blood running through the poor boys veins.
”How rough could it have been. The year I finished high school was the best year of my life!” She told him and it was. After high school, her parents died. She wasn’t abused anymore or picked on and made fun of. She was able to be herself! That was all that she cared about.
Listening to him, she looked behind herself a bit curiously. The forever nineteen year old shrugged. ”Nope, can’t say I do.” Then the idea came. A perfectly peculiar innocently sly smile crossed her lips. ”But I wouldn’t mind finding out. What do you think, shall we?”

Ethan grinned a childish grin, like a child about to be taken on a ride at the carnival. Something about exploring the unknown and dangerous parts of New York excited him in ways he didn't completely realise, and the futher from the crowded streets the better.
"Yeah, well, thank god High School is over for both of us right?" Ethan didn't expect an answer, he just wanted to finish on the topic. Not that he wasn't interested, Ethan was just pre-occupied with discovering what else the alley contained. Even if, and probably when, the alley turns out to be empty. There was a thrill to just searching.
He could hear the street behind him, the horns of cars, the chatter of people. It was all so... safe.
Ethan stopped leaning against the wall, standing up ready to move. His hands were casually in the pockets of his jacket, but there was a slight gleam in his eyes, one no-one could have noticed. He looked at Scar. "Lets go." Ethan strode futher down the alley and away from the street.
Notes - Oh yeah, it was cool. Sadly, school this week wasn't. Oh well, not too bad I guess.

Scarlette licked her lips at the sight of her childishness. His goofy smile was all that she needed to know that she had ensnared him. At least that was how she thought of it. It was kids, or teens... humans like this Ethan that made a vampires life fun.
She nodded at what he said. "Exactly what I mean. School was probably the worst thing ever invented." She answered. The safe sounds of the street rang in her ears, threatening to steal away her prey, but the boy in front if her was just a danger fiend, it seemed.
As he told her 'Let's go', and strode past her, she licked her lips again. Her fangs glistened as she did and her eyes carried a hungry glint in them. "Yes, let's go," she chuckled as she began to walk behind him. She looked behind herself every so often to make sure no one was following her.
"So, Ethan, how old are you, anyway?" she asked.
