this world will never be what I expect it and if I don't don't belong who would have guessed it
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A bitter wind whipped through the park and the swings clattered loudly against each other. What little people that were left in the park fled for cover, hurrying their children along. The sun had just begun to set and the moon was rising slowly behind the buildings of New York City. The sounds of cars and cabs were drowned out by the howl of the wind. A nasty storm was on its way but it wouldn't actually be here for a while. For now though the poor city of New York was stuck getting hammered by the winds. A lone female walked slowly on the sidewalk through the park. Not too far behind her lurked four males who kept close but their eyes never left the female.
Almost with a sigh the female stopped walking and simply kept her gaze forward. The males all grinned and took that chance to circle around her touching and tugging at her clothes. The female though did nothing as they murmured things to her trying to get her to go with them, but she refused to move. Her eyes closed tight as she bit her lip against a snarl. The males took that as a sign she liked their attention. Man oh man they were wrong. One of the guys started to slide a hand up her t-shirt and that is when she lost it. The female's eyes snapped open and glowed a furious gold as the snarling poured from her. Moving faster than they could even track, her hand shot and tore the throat out of one of the guys. He fell to the ground blood bubbling from the hole as the other three men snarled with rage their skin rippling.
"Fucking wolves."
The female scoffed swinging her leg up and kicking the head clean off another guy before he could complete the change. His body dropped to the ground like a rock and she was left facing two snarling wolves. Shrugging out of her half leather jacket, she let it settle on the ground next to her. The wind whipped her auburn hair around her as she flexed her fingers letting claws show now. One wolf lunged at her and she ducked slashing its belly wide open, it crashed into the tree behind her with a loud crack. Licking her lips and grinning a twisted little grin, the female faced the final wolf who was backing away slowly. By now the park was completely empty, minus the female and the wolf. Without a second thought the wolf turned and fled, but the female was close behind him. She jumped on its back and jerked it's head around. The wolf dropped dead and she tumbled off laughing. For a while she simply laid there laughing, before she got up and dragged the dead wolf back by the others.
"God I love my job."
The late wind howls, clouds fly over head, moon and stars shone down brightly. Alone walked the young man with eyes and hair of silver. A glowing ember hung in front of the veterans face, glowing brighter as he inhaled on his cigarrete, hands in pockets. The President and CEO of Ragnarok, the global PMC that had quickly risen to power and prestige, strolled casually through the park where few dared to tread after nightfall.
He wore all black, combat boots, fatigues and tucked in t-shirt. A leather jacket and military style cap topped it off. His belt held various pouches containing medical supplies, ammo and a nonlethal weapon if needed, with a gun and holster beneath the jacket on his side.
The sounds of combat drew him from his contemplations, and he continued casually on his way towards it. He found the first couple corpses and stared expressionlessly for a moment before continuing on, coming upon the end battle in time to catch a womans voice. His face betrayed no emotion, his smoke brightening for a moment before dimming in a puff of smoke. "You know, enjoying killing isn't healthy." he says with a blank look, appraising the woman before him. Pretty, but nothing to capture the cold and pragmatic young man. He blinks as he watches her, anticipating a cheery response. How boring life was, he thought to himself, a never ending circle that repeats itself time and again.
A voice filled the air around the female as she dropped the last body. Ignoring the voice she dug out a small vile from her pocket and fished for her lighter which was missing. Taking a step something crunched beneath her foot and she winced. Just great. Sighing her eyes traveled to the man who seemed to be smoking a cigarette. Rolling her eyes, the female marched right over to the guy and began to frisk him checking his pockets until she found the lighter in his left pocket. Without so much as a word to the man, she headed back to her pile and dumped the vile on the dead bodies and flicked open the lighter. She touched it to the tail of one of the wolves and within seconds the whole pile was a flame.
The shadows flicked darkly across her face as she watched the bodies burn to nothing, the smell of burning fur and flesh filling her nose but she ignored it. With a flick of her, she tossed the lighter back to the man and collected her jacket sliding the dark leather back on. Fixing her hair, she let her golden gaze settle upon the man for a long moment. Her lips parted slightly as if to say something but instead she held her tongue and turned back to the burning pile awaiting it's finish. A heavy wind blew through the park fanning the flames. The fire roared up bright and then vanished into nothing. The female capped the vile and tucked it into her jacket. Arms stretching high above her head she yawned and cracked her neck.
"Thanks for the lighter. Sorry I had to uh take it from you. It's been a long day."
The words were soft and she was hoping he wouldn't hear her as she tucked her hands into her pockets and turned away from him. Her boots were silent against the sidewalk as she slowly made her way away from her mess. The man was of no concern to her though she probably should care that he saw her take down those wolves. From the smell of him, he dealt with creatures all the time. The wind pulled the strands of her hair around and into her face carrying the scents of the park with it.
"I need alcohol."
She grumbled to herself pulling her jacket closer as a show she was cold even though she was dying from the heat her body was giving off.
Linx merely raised a brow as the young woman fished for his lighter, his own nimble fingers going to work as he followed her lightly back to the corpses. He nabbed her wallet as she was distracted and smiled lightly, catching his lighter easily as she turned to leave, catching her parting words as well.
"Aliyah Jackson, head of the NYPD CA division." he read aloud from her wallet, holding up a hip flask filled with strong whiskey and shaking it in invitation to her, not yet looking up. He glances over the contents quickly to get a feel for her before tossing it back and finally looking at her, giving her a disarming smile.
"Don't suppose you like whiskey do you?" he says, lifting a hand to take the cigarette from his mouth, exhaling with a smile at her. He holds out a hand to her, "Linx." he says, wondering if he had her attention.
The mention of her name stopped her dead in her tracks as her hand shot out behind her catching her wallet and tucking it away in her jacket. A small snarl of annoyance coming from her as she turns to face the man slowly making her way back towards him. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she studied him. Linx, this man called himself Linx. The name seemed to buzz in the back of her mind but nothing came forth. Li stopped a few feet in front of the man hip cocked and one hand resting on it. Her eyes roaming over him slightly.
"Linx huh? Next time you need a date try not stealing a girls wallet and being a creep."
The female smiled somewhat poisonously at him walking a bit closer and stealing the cigarette from between his lips and placing it in her own mouth. Taking a long drag, she let the smoke curl out from her lips along with a smile. Li backed away from him slightly giving them a bit more space. She studied him for another moment a bit longer this time. He reeked of death and blood and her nose crinkled slightly as another gust of wind blew around them.
"What do you want? Because I need to get back to the NYPD to report this kill. I took out two more than I originally planned and I need to write it up before I head out."
This man obviously knew how the systems worked because he didn't seem too surprised she was part of the NYPD. Though she was almost certain he didn't know what the C.A division was but it didn't matter. Most people didn't know about it let alone any human. Sighing she finished off his cigarette and flicked the butt of it away. The wind seemed to be dying down now but a breeze seemed remain and shift her hair slightly. Golden eyes looked up and met his silver ones holding them for a long moment before she looked away.
He chuckles heartily at her response, a half grin on his face. "Date? Don't flatter yourself babe. You may be cute, but I doubt you're my type. As for being a creep, one could accuse you of the same. Pressing yourself against someone to dig through their pockets? Whereas I plucked something from an empty pocket. You more a creep then I." he says with a smile at her.
"As for your report, it can wait. I've got more than a little pull to make your life easier, should you wish. As for my purpose to actually being out here, I'm merely relaxing from some hard work." he says. Afterall, an empire didn't build itself. He smiles again, lighting another cigarette for himself, winking at her. "You know, you are a bit too cute to keep working CA. Care to come work for me? My division for CA is a bit more...easy going. More reports, better gear, and you set your own hours. Pay's good, as are benefits." he says with a smile, highly doubting she'd take the offer.
"Pressing myself against you eh? I definitely just walked up and stole the cigarette from you so feel free to cast whatever delusions you have about me pressing against you to the side. And being your type please. You couldn't handle this wild girl."
The female smirks somewhat behind the cigarette as she took a final drag from it and flicked it away. Fishing in her pockets she produced a pack and pull out another cig lighting it up. So what if she was a partial chain smoker. Taking a long drag from it, she studied him some more listening to his words and watching his reactions and movements. His division of the C.A? How could he have his own division when she was almost certain the N.Y.P.D was the first to test it out. Apparently it was simply a test run to see if they'd add it other places. Li let the smoke flow from her some more as she mulled over his words. He wanted her to come and work for him? What?!
"Look sir, I'm not sure if you understand this or not but I am Head of the CA division. Not some little underling. I am head and I can't just simply walk away from something because some guys says he can offer me better. I am fairly certain you know about how the systems work and you should understand that."
The sir was meant in more of a sarcastic tone, but it didn't really come out in such a way. Annoyed only slightly, she flicked the cigarette away and jammed her hands into her pockets. Li wanted to be mean and say something about how stupid humans were but she'd only be being stupid herself. Darkened thoughts seemed to cloud her mind briefly before she pushed them away and focused on Linx. She didn't even know where he worked though he seemed oddly familiar in some sense. It bugged her that she couldn't remember.
"What division are you from?
The female's eyes narrowed slightly as the breeze sifted through and shifted her hair slightly about her shoulders. The moon was still high in the sky and shined brightly down onto them providing enough light for him to see and making it practically daytime for her.
