AND TIME WON'T PASS YOU BY, AND I WON'T TELL YOU LIES. The girl was gone. Carmen huffed contentedly, but continued to expand her senses to make sure that she wasn’t hiding. The last thing she wanted was to bring a hunter home and have to deal with that. Nodding her head, Carmen started to walk. It would be quicker to get back if she took the subway, but she wasn’t going to do that and risk falling asleep again. Two days away from home would be a little too much, and then Agito might just think she was dead. Just to be safe, the first chance she got, she was on the roofs, moving that way. The only thing her sire Tommy had taught her was how to move as a vampire. Then, she ditched him the first chance she got. It was easy for her to leap about now as if she’d been doing it her entire life. That was one thing about Carmen was that if she saw it, she could do it. It might take her a couple tries, but that was still less than most people. She didn’t fear hurting herself, and she didn’t know her limitations. Therefore, she wasn’t afraid to try things.
After a few minutes of traveling via rooftop, she had gotten almost a mile away from the little house Calliope had led her to. Satisfied that if she had been there hiding she no longer was following, Carmen slowed down but continued to travel on the rooftops so she wouldn’t have t deal with people. She wanted to get straight home, and if some horny rapist wanted to get some, Carmen wouldn’t have to deal with him. Or a mugger. Whatever came first. Habits were hard to break, and Carmen’s was looking helpless at times. The sword on her back was obscured and hard to spot in the dark, so most people didn’t see it until it was too late. Carmen preferred not to use the weapon unless they had one like it, otherwise she preferred to use hand-hand combat instead. It just seemed more fair to the person she was fighting with. Having fed off the human hunter, she didn’t need to stop for that, either. Some of the burns on her neck and face were still visible, but only just.
Finally, the loft came into view. Carmen scrambled up to the roof and entered through there, not wanting to have to deal with the stairs or the elevator. This way was just quicker. Making her way down a couple flights, she made it to the right floor and walked the familiar path to the loft that was hers and Agito’s. She wondered if he’d even be in there, or if he’d be out hunting for her or a meal. Carmen would just stay in today if he wasn’t there, surprise him when he got back. “He better not be angry with me. . . not my fault,” she muttered to herself, rolling her eyes as she imagined the scolding she might get from her friend and adoptive sire. He was about her age physically, and she had never liked being told off by someone her age—actually, she’d never liked being told off by anyone, if they were her superior or not. Reaching the door, she pulled out her key and unlocked the door, then pushed the door open and strode in as if nothing was wrong. “Tadaima,” she announced.

Agito sat silently on the park bench overlooking the pond and the fountain in the center. It was quiet out here tonight. Well at first glance it was but he knew better. There were several shady characters roaming the park at this time of night. Some human, others preyed on human's. Agito wasn't worried at least not about them. Carmen had not come home. It was a bit of a surprise but he had expected her to tire of him and leave eventually. What should have surprised him was the fact that it took this long. He wondered if it was something he did. He wasn't sure but she did seem to be pretty angry with him last time they talk though he couldn't rememeber for what reason.
After a few hours of sitting along at the park; Agito decided he'd make his way back to the loft which was only a short walk away. In fact you could see the park from one of the windows in the loft. It never crossed his mind that something could have happened to her. Not a chance. He was the one that trained her. Even if she couldn't win she was at least skilled enough to escape. So in his mind nothing could have happened to her. she simply left.
As he walked down the sidewalk towards the loft. Agito looked up the side of the building and saw that the lights were on. He remembered clearly turning everything off like the commercial said for a greener tomorrow So that meant someone got in while he was gone. He had been gone for a few hours. "Probably thieves" He thought to himself as he made his way into the building and of course up the stairs. Since he still didn't trust elevators. When he reached to his floor he silently drew his blade and examined the door.
There were no signs of forced entry. Maybe he just forgot to turn the light off. As unlikely as it was, there was no signs that someone had broken in at least not through the door. Agito unlocked the door and opened it after sheathing his sword. Well he would have unlocked it had it not been already unlocked. Obviously the person that was or is in there has a key, He had changed the locks a while back so only two people had a key himself and... Agito pushed open the door and glanced around. "Carmen-chan?" He asked as he stepped inside his hand instinctively on the hilt of his weapon just in case.

There was no response when Carmen announced that she was home. She looked around, then sighed. Of course he wouldn’t be home. He probably had things to do and people to hunt. The young vampire walked toward the couch and set her sword down on the seat, then head back to the bathroom. She felt dirty in the clothes she’d spent two days on, and she’d been in an old, dusty house and a public restroom. The first thing she wanted to do was a shower. Undressing, she climbed in and turned the water on, the heat up high. She spent a good twenty minutes in there, just letting the water run over her, taking a few minutes to clean her hair and run some soap over her, and then she just stood there, her eyes closed. Agito would come back eventually. When the hot water ran out, she stepped out of the shower with the water off and grabbed a thick, brown towel from the bar, wrapping it around her body, her hair still sopping wet.
“Carmen-chan?” Carmen lifted paused as she went to open the door, decided that it had been Agito’s voice. Besides, no one else called her Carmen-chan. She pulled the door open and stepped through, entering view of the main room in nothing but a towel. “Who else would it be?” she asked, her head tilted and a blank expression on her face. “Sorry I didn’t come home this morning. I’d lost track of time and had to stay somewhere else,” she lied fluidly, not wanting to bother to tell him that she had fallen asleep—or possibly passed out—on the subway and had been rescued by a hunter. Her lie was just so much easier to swallow, and you wouldn’t be able to tell that she was lying. Leaning against the wall, she crossed her arms over her chest and gave him a small smile. “Miss me?” Her comment was sarcastic, but there was a real question beneath the sarcasm.

Agito released his grip on his sword and locked the door behind him. 'Miss me?' she asked. He walked up to her while shaking his head a bit. "Why would I miss you?" he asked feigning a lack of care. He didn't keep up the game very long however as he reached for her and pulled her into a somewhat wet embrace. He simply held her for a moment. A completely random and out of character act of relief. After a few seconds he let her go and looked away awkwardly. He had only at this moment realized that she was only in a towel. If he was capable of blushing she'd have been flush with color at the moment.
Agito Turned and walked over to the fridge. He opened it and reached in for a bottle of water. "So where did you stay? You cut it close didn't you? You have a light burn on your cheek" just the thought of her being caught out in the sun was enough to worry him. If she had died; Agito would be alone. He didn't mind being alone, but he had grown attached to the idea of having her around. At first he had simply intended to use her as a tool in his expansion her in the east. The situation had change though. The thought of even putting her in harms way was unbearable. For one who cared so little of the lives of others that he would kill his entire family to save himself, it made no sense to him.

“Why would I miss you?” Agito replied, effectively wiping Carmen’s smile from her face and turning it into a sort of half frown. Was he kidding? More flirting, perhaps? She rolled her eyes and started to head for the bedroom so she could get dressed and dried off. “Whatever,” she muttered sarcastically to herself before Agito started to walk by her. She waited till he was past to head out, but before that could happen, he had his arm around her in a half-embrace. Carmen smiled again to herself and returned the gesture, though she had to use one arm because her other one was busy keeping the towel wrapped around her body. She didn’t say it, but she had felt a little empty without Agito there that day. When he let go of her, Carmen did the same and they parted in the loft, him headed for the kitchen and her headed for the bedroom. She kept the door open so it would be easier for the two of them to hear each other, uncaring and unafraid if he walked in on her. She got dressed quickly, taking some time to dry off thoroughly before she threw on her clothes so they wouldn’t get wet while she was wearing them.
She was pulling on some socks when Agito next spoke. “So where did you stay? You cut it close didn't you? You have a light burn on your cheek,” he commented blithely from in the kitchen. Carmen looked up and out the door, but she couldn’t see Agito. Her hand lifted and her finger tips touched her burned cheek. It probably had been worse before she had fed, but it made sense that it wouldn’t have gone completely away. “Out in the abandoned buildings I found a basement to hold up in. It’s just a small burn. It’ll go away,” she said, pulling on her shirt and completing her wardrobe. Picking up her towel, she headed back into the bathroom to hang it up, then grabbed her clothes from the night before and carried them back into her room, putting them in the dirty pile. It was getting close to the point where she needed to do a load of laundry or two. With that all settled, she headed out to the main room to see what Agito was up to. “How’d you sleep?” she asked, a common question she asked him when she woke up.

Sleep? How could he when he didn't know what had become of the only person that meant anything at all to him. He had spend most of the day wide awake waiting for her even though it was pointless. They couldn't venture into the sunlight so she couldn't have came home during the day no matter what. As soon as the sun had set he had scouted the area a bit looking for signs of here whereabouts. Coming up with nothing he sat at the park and gathered his thoughts. Now they were standing her. "Pretty good actually" Agito responded. perhaps in a less than obvious white lie. He massaged the back of this neck for a moment before sitting down on the couch.
Agito finished his bottle of water, and smiled at Carmen. "I really did miss you. Not sure how to explain it. It was like a piece of me was missing." he stated while avoiding eye contact. He obviously was not comfortable saying this kind of stuff. Agito reached for the remote and turned on the TV. It was on MTV cribs. Agito was always impressed with how materialistic humans could be. Why did you need an Olympic sized pool when you live on your own?. He never understood it. Weren't humans in this country having some sort of recession? Perhaps it only applied to the middle and lower classed humans.

“Pretty good actually,” was the response. Carmen raised her eyebrows and plopped down on the couch, crossing one leg over the other. Something didn’t seem exactly truthful in what he said, but Carmen didn’t dwell on it too much. Agito came over to the couch and Carmen moved over a little bit to give him his space on the little love seat. She didn’t miss his smile, and she looked back at him. “I really did miss you. Not sure how to explain it. It was like a piece of me was missing.” Carmen’s smile faded slightly as she registered what he had said, but all in all it had been the response she had really wanted. As far she was concerned, no one had ever missed her before, and she had nearly felt the same way he had. She hadn’t felt right without him sitting there in the room with her. Grinning, Carmen shameless recited a line from a movie she had seen a few years ago. “You think I’m gorgeous, you want to kiss me, you want to hug me. . . ,” she slowly trailed off in her sing-song voice, leaning back in her seat and giggling to herself. This was the side of Carmen that no one had ever seen of her. It was slightly new to her herself, but with Agito it almost felt right. “I’ll try to pay better attention next time.”

Agito just stared at her for a moment as he wondered who this cheerful person sitting next to him was. It couldn't be Carmen could it? She wasn't the cheerful, enthusiastic type or at least she pretended not to be. Sometimes he wondered if there was more than one person living in her head. She always did something he didn't expect. Agito smiled broadly at her. He was relieved that she was back. It had only been a day but it was entirely to long in his opinion. If something had happened to her he'd have broken his promise. He said he'd always protect her, and today he was helpless to do so. He didn't like that feeling one bit. Helplessness was not an emotion reserved for him.
Agito's gaze shifted slightly lower and settled on her neck. When was the last time he had blood that didn't come from a blood packet. He couldn't remember, but it had to have been a while because he was having some thoughts that he probably should not have been having. Agito could feel his fangs extend slightly. he bit down on his bottom lip and stood up suddenly walking towards the bedroom. "I'm gonna take a shower" he stated as he walked into the room. Agito walked into the bathroom and sat on the edge of the tub. He turned on the shower and sighed. His fangs were fully extended now. It wasn't a huge issue he had been in the situation before...once.
Agito examined his left wrist for a moment before he bit into it. He winced slightly at the pain and then began to drink. It was pointless to do this. as it would only sate his hunger for a few hours maybe a day at the very best. He'd have to feed soon. Agito forced his wrist away from his mouth and looked at the few splatters of blood that fell to the floor. He thought about just asking Carmen if he could...no he couldn't do that what if he couldn't stop himself? Agito got undressed and stepped into the shower.

Carmen smiled and shook her head slightly, turning to look at the TV. It looked like that Cribs show, and Carmen rolled her eyes slightly at the thought of all of these rich people who had giant mansions on their own private islands. Was that really necessary? Having your own island? Wouldn’t you get lonely? Ah well. Carmen sank into her seat slightly and put her feet up on the table, her arms crossed over her stomach as she got comfortable on the couch. She doubted that if she were to see her parents that they would recognize her. Carmen was much happier now that she had met Agito. Never before had Carmen felt this care-free before and never before had she felt like she belonged. She had always been an outcast, never staying in one foster home, and no one ever bothered being her friend in school because she was so weird and cynically. Watching your mother and sister die in front of you without so much as flinching would probably do that to you.
After a few minutes, Agito suddenly got up from the couch and announced that he was getting in the shower. Carmen watched him go, thinking that he seemed like he was in a bit of a hurry, but shrugged it off and leaned over, plucking up the remote to flick through the channels while he was away. There usually wasn’t a whole lot on at this time of the night, but there was no real harm in searching. The Disney Channel was playing some dumb cartoon, Adult Swim was on, Comedy Central was playing some dumb B movie, and there were a whole lot of infomercials. Carmen sighed and flicked it back to MTV. Soon they would probably actually play some music videos, and if not, well at least there was something to watch instead of commercials and mind-numbing cartoons. Tossing the remote on the seat next to her, Carmen got up and headed up toward the kitchen, pulling out the little case of turkey she was oh so very fond of, taking out several slices before heading back to the couch. For once, she was content to sit at home.

No sooner than he was in the shower did Agito throw up the blood he had just drank. His body recognized and rejected it. He stared at the blood as it swirled around and finally went down the drain. So he really had to feed soon. He could possibly make it another day or two without doing it, if he was lucky. Agito leaned against the wall and just let the water run over him. His stomach lurched a bit threatening to release whatever he had managed to keep down. Agito turned off the water after about fifteen minutes then stepped out and dried off.
Agito got dressed in his typical outfit which consisted of a white T-shirt, dark blue leather jacket with the kanji for fang in the back (Fang is the English translation of Agito) and a pair of blue jeans. He didn't put his boots on because he didn't plan on leaving the loft again tonight. Agito walked out into the kitchen and got a blood packet from the fridge. It was the last one. He opened it and chugged it down rapidly. He waited a moment and after he was satisfied that it would not be coming right back up like in the shower; He walked over to the couch and sat down making sure to concentrate on the TV and not on his companions neck again.

At some point in time, Carmen wound up sideways on the couch, her legs draped over the arm of the couch on her side, a piece of turkey in her mouth and her fingers attached to the other end as she slowly led it into her mouth, nibbling at the end. There were some candy bars in the fridge that she had managed to get a hold of, but she wanted some real food at the moment. She didn’t keep track of how long Agito was in the shower, but she tilted her head back to look at him as he entered without a word, headed for the kitchen. She looked back at the TV for a minute or so, then glanced back up at him to see what he was doing, finishing off the slice of turkey she was nibbling on and picking up the last one off the coffee table and slowly eating at that one, too. He had one of those blood packets and was going at it like he hadn’t eaten in months. When he came and sat down, Carmen turned her head to follow him, looking up at him from her upside down position. “You doing alright there? Look a little more pale than usual,” she commented with a tilt of her head.

Agito looked at her and put on his best grin. "Yeah everything is fine" he responded while favoring his wrist. He decided it would not be wise to ever try that again. Who knew what the implications would be especially considering how his insides felt and how his body reacted. The last blood packet had given him a temporary reprieve, but he'd have to go out soon and do something he hadn't done in months...Hunt. He'd been living off those damn packets for a while. Agito ran his hand through his hair as he focused on the not so interesting things on TV. MTV news was on and apparently some rapper was arrested for carrying an unlicensed fire arm. Agito couldn't help but think that if it was a sword he wouldn't have had any trouble with the law. Katana were two big to really be concealed, and they didn't need to be licensed. A human with a Katana versus one with a gun would most certainly die, but in the case of immortals it would be a pretty fair fight assuming equal skill with their respective weapon of choice.

He said that everything was fine, but Carmen didn’t buy into it for a minute. He looked like he was going to be sick—kind of—and Carmen didn’t miss the way he was holding his wrist. She was a pretty observant girl, and extremely intelligent. Sighing, Carmen swung her legs over the side of the couch to bring her upright and so that she was sitting in the correct position on the couch. The movement brought her further away from Agito, but her position was mended with a little hop closer to him. Without giving him a choice, Carmen reached over and pulled his hand toward her, looking it over. “Did you hurt yourself? And to think I let you train me,” she muttered sarcastically with a smile. They were fading, but she could barely make out two puncture wounds that looked awfully suspicious. She furrowed her brow in confusion, then looked up at him with narrowed eyes, not looking particularly happy. “What did you do?” she asked him—more like demanded.

Agito pulled his arm away from her and stuck his hands in the pockets of his jacket. "Don't worry about it!" he stated making sure to avoid her accusing gaze. Besides what was he gonna say? 'well for a brief moment i wanted to drain you dry so instead I bit myself which ended up not working out to well so here we are' last thing he needed was for her not to feel safe around him. He sighed audibly "aww its so cute when you worry about me" he teased in an attempt to change the subject He looked at his wrist. The bite was no longer visible. Out of sight out the of mind was the saying right?
Agito stood up and put his boots on. He couldn't risk going another day. "I'm going out" he stated as he made his way towards the door. He reached to his side and realized his sword was not there. He left it in the bathroom and went to retrieve it. He looked at the mirror and saw nothing. It was strange to have never seen your own face. If he walked past someone that looked identical to him he would not have noticed. He didn't know what he looked like. He touched the mirror inquisitively. Why did a vampire have a mirror he pondered. The previous owner had been a vampire like them. Perhaps it was there before him. Agito picked up the sword from the counter and walked back out into the living room. "Ja ne" he stated to Carmen with a wave as he once again went for the door.

Carmen was taken a bit by surprise when Agito yanked his hand out of her grasp, declaring that she shouldn’t worry about it. The young vampire gave her companion an indignant glare and let her hands fall back to her lap. “Fine, be that way!” she muttered to herself, rolling her eyes and sitting back against the couch, lifting her legs up to the coffee table and crossing her legs at the ankle, arms crossed over her chest. He always said he cared about her and would take care of her, and she supposed that he was old enough to think that a woman couldn’t take care of him. Men! “Aww it’s so cute when you worry about me,” he taunted her after sighing. Carmen dropped her jaw and shot him a glare. “I wasn’t worried! I just thought I should know whether or not my friend is a masochist. That’s kind of weird, you know!” she shot back. It wasn’t her best come-back, but she was just trying to save face. Her, worrying about someone else! She didn’t even worry about herself. Even if Agito had admitted to wanting to suck her dry, she probably would have just rolled her eyes and said something like “I’d like to see you try.”
Suddenly, Agito got to his feet and threw on his boots. Carmen looked up at him curiously, and he answered her unspoken question. He seemed to do that a lot. “I'm going out,” he announced, heading into the bathroom after realizing something was missing. Carmen muttered something under her breath and tore off a piece of turkey from the last slice she had neglected to finish off. “You’re thirsty, aren’t you?” she called, turning to look at him as he came out with his sword. She wasn’t an idiot. “Biting yourself didn’t work so well? Well that only makes tons of sense. Not adding anything new to your system. You don’t have to pretend you’re not a vampire on my account,” Carmen continued, sounding an awful lot like she was lecturing him, which she sort of was. She was a little irritated that he couldn’t even tell her when he was a little thirsty, yet it was okay for her to break down in tears in front of him. Of course, without being fearful of being judged, Carmen didn’t mind doing a whole lot of things in front of anyone. “Bring back more turkey, would you?”
