ISI .{.EXECUTIONER.}. RUNASIMI → SCORCHING THE BLOOD IN MY TWISTED HEARTI’LL BE THE THORNS ON EVERY ROSE ← Why are Monday’s always so depressing?” Isi fought a yawn and stiffly remained aloof on her bed for half an hour, glancing at the clock only once. It was twenty past three. PM. The young vampire hunter had stayed awake until five am, passed out asleep in a hurry and then woke some ten odd hours later. Since she lived outside the city limits she couldn’t hear the bustle of traffic. There were the usual noises of forest type animals, birds and whatnot. Isi yawned and checked her cell phone for the date. It was Monday alright. Because she was self-employed as a hunter (and slight professional thief) she set her own hours/days. It was easy to lose sight which day was Tuesday or that the weekend had already come.
The thing that got Isi out of bed was her rumbling stomach. Opening her fridge she found that it was as usual, empty. She dressed hurriedly, grabbed her keys and stored a gun in a hidden compartment on her Saab. She decided she didn’t need a gun to go grocery shopping but always felt safer when one was in reach. There were four hours of free time before the sun went down. There would be plenty of time for shopping and to return home before the monsters came out.
Isi drove to the city instead of the little supermarket closest to her home. She didn’t want to risk being recognized as a resident so she never shopped there. She chose to frequent the shops in the big city of New York for her supplies as it was only a thirty minute drive the way she drove. One could get lost in the crowd if they did nothing suspicious (like pay in bloody hundred dollar bills or spend a large time in the store and only purchase a small pack of gum at the counter). Isi pulled a cart aside from the others and entered the shop. She had no list but would wander down each aisle quickly pulling the things she wanted or thought she might like.
A bag of chips entered her cart. The carrots and celery sticks got added too. But she would toss those out if she couldn’t find a decent dip. In coincidently Isi was pulling her cart by the main entrance (just passing it) when she saw someone shady enter. The man was wearing a black trench coat and his hands were in his pockets. The one word that flashed to mind was “robbery”. Would it look like she was an accomplice if she left her cart with food and ditched the store? If anything police would try to track a redheaded female down for leaving: Why did you leave? Why didn’t you contact police when they were looking for you? Etc...Etc... There were still more items to get as Isi loaded her items on the check out center.
It wasn’t soon enough as the gunman waved his gun in the air. “Freeze. Don’t move. Everyone down or she dies.” The gunman had taken a woman as his human shield, pointing the weapon at the woman’s forehead. “Give me the cash.” The two children by the woman’s side whimpered.
By the time the gunman had spoken, “freeze” Isi had ran for the door. She left the groceries and the innocent people behind. A gunshot was fired but Isi had no idea if it was aimed at her or the hostage. The double doors slid closed behind her and she took off running down the block and turned, continuing to run, keeping her head down. Her car was parked across the street in the parking meter but she felt it was safe.
By the time Isi was twenty blocks away she felt safe. Her heart was racing and she could use a bottled water and some food. She could easily do ten miles but hunger pains weakened her. Isi purchased a root beer from a vendor but could skip on the hot dog. She guzzled down the root beer and was anything but lady like. She immediately felt the sugar rush. She tossed the empty bottle and decided that she’d rather eat in a small outside café.
Table for one. Or would you rather sit outside?” The hostess asked Isi.
I'd prefer outside. Thanks.” Isi said as she followed the hostess outside where she could watch people on the street. She took the menu and ordered another root beer. What exactly was the point of the gate separating the café tables from the outside? Either the customers were supposed to be separated from others or the customers were supposed to be ‘trapped’ inside so they couldn’t escape without paying their bill. That little gate was too easy to jump over if Isi had wanted.
Ranch salad. Caesar chicken wraps.” Isi ordered as she handed the menu back to the waitress. She used this time to dwell on the situation at hand. Did she feel like a coward for abandoning all the people inside? No. It wasn’t her problem. She didn’t feel bad. She didn’t feel like a monster. She sipped her root beer, crossed her legs and watched the police cars with sirens alerted speed by.
Why did…why did she feel eyes were on her?

Do you know what its like when you're scared to see yourself
Do you know what its like when you wish you were someone else Who didn't need your help - - - - - - - - - Ara hadn't really been planning on doing anything. It was Monday. She never did anything on Mondays. Unless some creepy creature of the night attacked her, this was her day off. Not that she wasn't prepared if someone or something did attack her. She was always ready for anything.
So she found her way walking down the street, staring straight forward. She didn't make eye contact or even look at the people she passed. And who knew crossing a little store would get her attention so quickly. There was a shout, a man's shout. She stopped in her place to listen. She'd missed the first sentence, but she caught the "give me the cash" part. She smirked slightly.
For some reason, robberies always amused her. It wasn't that she liked watching people being murdered because the one with the gun wanted money. No, of course not. Ara only liked watching evil vampires and demons die. Not humans. It was the looks on everyone's faces that caught her interest. Sometimes the idiot with the gun wasn't even tough enough to actually pull the trigger. But they all panic and do whatever he says.
If Ara had been in there, she wouldn't have done anything that jerk ordered her to. She didn't listen to anyone. He could shoot her all he wanted, she'd been through worse. But then, there was a loud gunshot. She didn't know who the guy shot at, but there was a girl running straight out of the place.
Hm... interesting... She couldn't see the girl's face, but she was running, and didn't look like she was intending on stopping anytime soon. So, Ara just kept walking in the direction she had been, but for some reason ended up following the woman. There was something about her that was different. But at least she wasn't gullible enough to do what the gunman told her to.
Eventually she saw the girl turn and finally stop in the little cafe. Ara didn't want to eavesdrop or anything, or freak her out. Looked like she was already edgy enough. But it looked like there was something more to her than meets the eye.
Ara stared at her a while, but seeing the suspicious look on her face after a moment, looked away and sat at the table behind her. Then she just waited. She wondered if she knew that Ara had been the one staring at her, and followed her here. If she was brave enough to run away from the crime rather than obey the robber, maybe she'd make for interesting conversation. - - - - - - - - -

Do you know what its like when you're scared to see yourself
Do you know what its like when you wish you were someone else Who didn't need your help - - - - - - - - - Ara only stared at her until the girl turned to make eye contact, and then she turned and looked forward again, but she still had the girl in her peripheral vision. When the waitress came by, all she said was, "Iced tea."
Something about this girl was just different, even though Ara couldn't quite put her finger on it. She'd met a lot of different types of people. Other slayers like herself, along with all the creatures that she destroyed for a living.
After a few minutes, the waitress brought Ara her tea and she sipped it, glancing back at the girl for a moment. She was sure she wouldn't suspect that Ara had followed her all the way back from the crime scene. How could she unless she'd watched her follow her? But she was too busy running away to notice that.
So she just sat and waited to see what the girl would do. If she was brave, like Ara suspected her to be, she would just go on and confront Ara, and ask her why she's staring. But, she could also just run away again like she'd done a few minutes before. Ara kicked her legs up onto the seat across from her since there was no one else there, and sipped her tea again. - - - - - - - - -

Do you know what its like when you're scared to see yourself
Do you know what its like when you wish you were someone else Who didn't need your help - - - - - - - - - Well, at she was brave enough to say something. Ara had met a lot of people, or stared at and intimidated a lot of people, who just ran away at her almost-glaring. She liked intimidated others, but she wasn't really all that fond of scaring them so much they peed their pants and ran away. But this girl did nothing but ask her to stop staring. And then she changed seats, probably just to get a better view of her. But Ara couldn't help her curiosity in others, especially ones who run twenty blocks from a crime scene.
And she could tell the girl was still on edge about the robbery. So she didn't want to push her off the edge any more than she had to. But she felt the need to say something now. Obviously the girl knew something was up. But Ara had learned the hard way that the only way to get answers out of people was to at least come up with some kind of conversation first. It was rare to randomly ask someone who they were, and sometimes what they were and expect them to answer. She'd only met one to actually do that without hesitation, but she hadn't seen him in many years.
"I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but notice you running... for twenty blocks,"she admitted. "I was sort of wondering what or who you were running from." Yeah, sure, she knew it was the robbery, but she still kind of curious what was so different about this one that freaked her out so much to run so far. - - - - - - - - -

Do you know what its like when you're scared to see yourself
Do you know what its like when you wish you were someone else Who didn't need your help - - - - - - - - - Ara wouldn't necessarily call it following. And stalking? Too icky sounding. She shook her head slowly, "I wasn't stalking you." Although she didn't know what other word she could use to describe it, she only hoped she wouldn't get angry. And actually, come to think of it, Ara didn't really know why she'd followed the girl. She guessed just out of boredom. She nothing better to do, and she knew the girl was human. It was rare to actually meet another human, or anyone at all, that wasn't trying to kill her. As the waitress came back to refill her drink, Ara only stayed quiet.
After she left, the girl spoke again. I think we both know why I was running. As were you. Ara looked to her again then. "I do know why you were running. You were running from the crime scene. I heard the gunshot... but why did you run for twenty blocks? And why stop at the cafe?" She didn't know if the girl would answer her, but she hoped she would. And actually, she hadn't been running. But she knew the girl wouldn't believe that, so she might as well not argue with her. Not if she wanted to get any information out of her. - - - - - - - - -

“Guess our definitions on stalking vary.” Isi replied as she played about with her greasy French fries. As far as fries went they were good. But all French fries from a restaurant were good. She dipped her wrap into Caesar dressing before taking a small bite out of it. The food was finally sitting well in her stomach. All was well in Isi who made a small promise to herself for yet the umpteenth time that she would not forget to eat.
“Well, how many blocks would you run for if you heard a - - “ Isi did not want to say the word gunshot. You never knew who was listening as the people walked past the café. “The police annoy me. I’d rather not end up giving a statement. As for stopping here? Since I couldn’t finish food shopping I’d rather get a bite to eat.” Isi took another bite out of her wrap. “What exactly made you follow me and sit down here? You’re either not hungry or can’t afford the food.” She said noting just the drink on the table.

Do you know what its like when you wish you were someone else Who didn't need your help - - - - - - - - - Ara didn't say anything when the girl mentioned their definitions varying. But she did think a reply, I guess we do. She sipped her tea again as the girl cut off the end of her question. Why didn't she say gunshot? She narrowed her eyes slightly, trying to think of the possibilities. Obviously, she could not want people to hear it. As if anyone was listening. Or maybe she could have something against guns? Puh. But still, no one was listening.
"I wouldn't run very far. Not far enough that I couldn't see how it ended," she admitted. Her curiosity always got to her. It was the reason she studied "mythical" creatures so much, and it was the reason she'd followed this girl eating her french fires. "I followed you because you stood out to me. Besides the fact that you were running. Something's different about you," she sipped her tea again and looked away from her, staring at her reflection in the nearby window. She hoped the girl wouldn't take that the wrong way. She meant it as the good kind of different, not the weird kind. "And I don't eat much..." [/blockquote] - - - - - - - - -

Isi gulped. One of the French fries fell from her hand onto her place. The other French fry got squished in half. “What exactly is so different about me?” Her eyes squinted as she stared at the brunette. No one who had just met Isi realized that she was so different. It usually took a few conversations which Isi would full heartedly avoid. Most of the time Isi could play along, smile, nod, pretend to be interested and no one was none the wiser. “Are you saying this because I’m a red-head?” Thanks to South Park red-heads and Gingers were laughed at, or at least the ugly ones. Of course Isi wasn’t a natural red-head.
It may have sounded like Isi was insulted but she was not. It took a lot to actually insult her and she had never before been insulted, not even once. She never got close to anyone, never got to know anyone and there were no room to be insulted. Isi was just taken aback by the brunette calling her different. She dabbed her chicken wraps in Caesar salad dressing while she waited for a response. The waitress returned with a new cup of root beer for Isi and took away her old one. Isi thanked the waitress as she plunged a new straw into the cup.

Ara's head snapped back to look at her when the girl's tone changed. But she couldn't exactly tell if it was an insulted tone, a defensive tone, or just a surprised tone. Sometimes it were hard to tell the difference. "I didn't mean to offend you, if I did," she admitted, giving the girl the most sincere look she could muster. "I just meant that you stood out to me for some reason. And it's not because of your hair. I can't exactly put my finger on it," she admitted.
Ara knew she was good at reading people. It was just the air people brought with them. It was like she could sense their morality, and their uniqueness it seemed. She didn't know how else to explain it, and knew if she tried to say that to this stranger that she'd probably think she was crazy. She just sipped her tea again, and watched the girl as she stabbed the straw into her cup. Was that plunge out of anger? Ara sure hoped not.
She sighed, stood up and sat in the seat across from the girl. With her hand extended to the girl, she said, "I'm pretty sure when strangers meet they at least introduce themselves... I'm Ara." She didn't know what the girl would say or if she'd even tell the truth if she even told her her name, but she hoped that she would. It was rare that Ara met new people, and especially ones that stood out to her.

Ara wasn't completely convinced that she wasn't offended, but she decided to believe her anyway. And the name Sarah didn't fit her look. Ara was genius at telling the liars from the truth tellers. And so far, this girl had looked like any other ordinary person, but why would she lie about her name? Unless she had something to hide, she wouldn't have.
So Ara's instinct were right... again. There was something different about her. But at least Ara hadn't lied about her name. But she smirked slightly when she said "I’m also pretty sure strangers ask before they sit at another table!" She nodded a little.
Then she thought of a reply, and maybe it would give 'Sarah' and little hint that Ara knew that wasn't her real name, and knew she wasn't normal. "I guess we're not ordinary strangers." It was true. Neither was one of them were normal. Now she just had to see if Sarah here would get the hint.

“I would say you’re not ordinary. Please don’t group me in with you!” Isi replied. She sipped her root beer not at all getting any sort of hint. How could Ara know that she was ‘not ordinary’, she couldn’t. It wasn’t something a person just stopped and spotted. If Isi was to be classified as anything it would be extraordinary. She was an extraordinary hunter. For a moment Isi thought the girl was trying to imply something but she pushed it off. Did Isi act like a hunter? She may have run but so could anyone. Running away from an idiot robbing a grocery mart didn’t mean she was a hunter. It wasn’t as if hunters wore a big scarlet H on their forehead. It was almost impossible to find another hunter.
