( WISE MEN WONDER WHILE STRONG MEN DIE )show me how defenseless you really are Agito peered out at the City as they started to drive. Tokyo was so bright. Neon lights and TV screens everywhere advertising some product or the other. Agito turned his attention to the GPS noting the little blip that represented the car traveling along the path highlighted in red towards their destination which was marked by a pair of checkered flags. This was the first time Agito, and Carmen had been a car together. They didn't own one back in New York. There was no point as Agito couldn't drive, and Carmen walked everywhere. Agito looked at Carmen, giving her a wide grin as she inquired about the distance. It wasn't too long only about three hundred miles give or take. There was nowhere to stop for gas up in the mountains anyways. That wasn't an issue however as the Captain had provided them with the necessary reserve fuel for the return trip. "We have enough gas to get there, and there's two five gallon gas canisters in the trunk I was told for the trip back" Agito stated Before tuning his attention back outside at the city around them. For some reason he had an annoying nagging feeling in his gut. The kind he normally had when something wasn't exactly as it should be. He couldn't put his finger on it, and nothing appeared to be wrong, but the feeling didn't just dissipate. He figured it could be nothing, but he'd keep an eye out just in case.

CARMEN LYNN SYKES → WHAT HAPPENED TO MISS INDEPENDENT'S NO LONGER NEED TO BE DEFENSIVEMISS INDEPENDENT MISS SELF-SUFFICIENT MISS KEEP YOUR DISTANCE MISS UNAFRAID ← Carmen gave a little nod and looked at the gas gauge. Yup, it was at full. But he still didn’t answer her question, as she didn’t know how much gas the car held or what kind of gas mileage it got. Ten gallons of reserve gas didn’t tell her a whole lot, either. Sighing, she looked over at him for a second, then back to the road. The car seemed to like to pull left so she had to pay attention. Driving on the other side of the car, let alone the road, was kind of strange for her, too. “Well that’s wonderful but it didn’t answer my question,” she muttered.
The voice on the GPS announced there was a turn coming up, and Carmen glanced at the little box, her brow furrowed. What an annoying voice. But at least she didn’t have to worry about missing a turn when it barked out commands every so many miles or when an event was coming out. At least that was convenient, though she wondered why Agito was giving her directions. . . . Wouldn’t he know how to get to this place? Well whatever. Carmen didn’t care where her directions were coming from so long as she got there eventually.
Well, at least the car worked the same as the ones she learned on. . . . Everything was just on the other side of the car. At least she got used to it pretty quick. It took her first few turns to get it, but she caught on. Change wasn’t something she was afraid of or disliked. . . after all, she was changing homes for most of her life. Carmen looked over at Agito and impulsively reached out with the hand that wasn’t on the wheel to take a hold of his. It seemed natural for her and she kept her eyes on the road the whole time, following the directions from the GPS. “What are we going to do?” she asked, trying to make conversation.

( WISE MEN WONDER WHILE STRONG MEN DIE )show me how defenseless you really are As they drove following the GPS's directions; Carmen asked what they were going to do. Agito simply shrugged. There was something he wanted to get for her. A gift of a sort for the one that had stolen his heart, or lack thereof. Agito wanted to listen to the radio, but if he did that they wouldn't hear the GPS. He didn't wanna sit in silence but he didn't wanna spoint the surprise either. " Did I ever tell you why I killed them? My clan?" He asked knowing full well he hadn't. Her told her that he had killed them all. He had even given her a reason for doing it. It wasn't entirely true. Either way he figured that he could tell her now. Information it was very valuable.Eventually he would teach her that, and share with her all he knew. How could he charter a private jet for a year with just a few words. It's simple when those uttered words could change everything that everyone knew about history.

( WISE MEN WONDER WHILE STRONG MEN DIE )show me how defenseless you really are Agito listened as Carmen ranted as usual. If there was ever one thing about her that he complitely disapproved of; this was it. Agito sighed, and pointed to the distance to destination which was clearly displayed on the gps as 212 miles. Why was it so important for her to know why they were going there. Shouldn't it have been enough that he had something important to get. Did she really need to know more than that? He stopped pointing at the GPS and peered out through the window. He neverr liked this city, and now more than ever he hated it. "I have a very important Item to retrieve, one that decides the future of my clan...thats all I can tell you right now. You'll know the rest soon enough" He stated without looking at her. whatever good mood he had been in previously was quickly drained. A gito didn't say anything else. Nothing else needed to be said. He simply stared out at this shit hole of a city. Unable to wait until they finally flew out of this country. lay your hand on me one last time

CARMEN LYNN SYKES → WHAT HAPPENED TO MISS INDEPENDENT'S NO LONGER NEED TO BE DEFENSIVEMISS INDEPENDENT MISS SELF-SUFFICIENT MISS KEEP YOUR DISTANCE MISS UNAFRAID ← Satisfied, Carmen scoffed under her breath and decided to continue driving in silence, using the controls on the steering wheel to turn the radio up. Of course, all there really was was a bunch of Japanese music, but a few stations played the most famous artists from Amercia. Carmen had never really been into music a whole lot, and she could understand both Japenese and American, so she just picked a station that seemed to not talk a whole lot and just left it at that. All she wanted to do was fill the silence with something, especially since both her and Agito were no longer in pleasant moods. Carmen was just naturally an angry person, so it was easier for her to become upset than it was for her to be happy.
Deciding that she didn’t have any more pressing questions, Carmen focused on driving. When they finally moved out of the city, she picked up the speed a little more, more out of curiosity. She had seen that movie, Tokyo Drift. If she went above like, what was it? Sixty kilometers per hour? Something like that, then the cops wouldn’t bother to pull her over. Carmen wondered if that was right. Well, if it was it was, if it wasn’t it wasn’t.
Over two hundred miles. That wasn’t that bad. A couple hours, going as fast as she going. The silence between her and Agito didn’t bother her. She knew eventually both of them would just get over it, so it wasn’t worth being bothered about. It wasn’t like they had much to do in the car, anyway. She didn’t even feel bad about snapping at him like she had. The young vampire—even as a human—hardly ever felt bad about anything. Carmen knew she had upset Agito, but in all fairness he had upset her first, so she had had every right to snap at him.
However, she did care about Agito. A great deal. Though she had ways of showing it, she really did. At one point during their drive, Carmen let her left hand fall from the steering wheel and searched out Agito’s, lacing her fingers between his and giving it a light squeeze. It was the closest thing to an apology he was going to get from her. A few seconds later, the GPS told her to continue for a few more miles, and then turn left. Time had moved by rather slowly without some form of conversation, but at least they were almost there now. Glancing at the GPS for a moment, Carmen read that their estimated arrival time was only in thirteen minutes.

( WISE MEN WONDER WHILE STRONG MEN DIE )show me how defenseless you really are Agito fidgeted a tad at the site of the familiar terrain. The road had long turned into a dry bumpy dirt path, but now even the path had ended blocked by a rocky mountain side. As the car came to a stop Agito stepped out and looked around cautiously he wanted to make sure they hadn't been followed. For about twenty minutes he simply stood there and paid particular attention to their surroundings. After he was certain no one else was around he walked towards a large boulder that rested firmly against the mountain side. Agito glanced over his shoulder at Carmen for a moment before he turned his attention back on the stone. Placing the tip of his thumb in his mouth he bit down enough to draw blood. The taste of his blood brought an instant sickness to his stomach as his body remembered what drinking his own blood had done to him before.
Agito removed his thumb from his mouth, smeared the crimson fluid on the palm of his opposite hand. He pressed his bloody palm against the boulder and waited. After a moment a familiar vibration could be felt from the depths of the rock itself. It was old magic, even older than the clan itself. No one knew how it worked, but simply that it did. The boulder rolled to the side revealing a tunnel leading into the mountain itself. Only someone with the blood of the clan could reveal the entrance."Well....you coming or would you rather wait?" He asked as he glanced over his shoulder at Carmen

CARMEN LYNN SYKES → WHAT HAPPENED TO MISS INDEPENDENT'S NO LONGER NEED TO BE DEFENSIVEMISS INDEPENDENT MISS SELF-SUFFICIENT MISS KEEP YOUR DISTANCE MISS UNAFRAID ← Finally, they were freaking there. Carmen parked in the first spot she dubbed good enough and shut the car off. She exited the car with Agito, but for some reason he didn’t seem interested in doing a whole lot but standing there. Sighing and rolling her eyes, Carmen walked to the hood of the car and sat on it, leaning back on her hands and crossing her legs at the knee, looking out over. . . well, nothing really. The side of the mountain. The rocks looked like. . . rocks. Groaning, Carmen leaned back so that her head was resting against the windshield and folded her hands on her stomach, looking up through the gaps in the trees at the sky. At least up here the sky was clear.
But soon she started to get restless. How long were they going to just stand out here? Throwing her legs over the side of the hood, she slipped off and some rocks fell to the side when her feet hit the ground. Walking around the front of the car, she leaned against the side, crossing her legs at the ankle and crossing her arms over her chest, head tilted to the side. After a second, she opened her mouth to say something, but finally Agito decided to move. And be productive. He bit himself and Carmen raised an eyebrow, but watched silently, knowing that it was probably for some purpose. And it was. . . . He placed his thumb on the rock and it shuddered and rolled to the side, revealing some secret little passageway. It was terribly B-Movie.
Hhe asked if she was coming and she shoved off the side of the car and walked toward him. “Yes, because sitting out here in the wilderness all by lonesome, listening to nothing but rocks fall and owls hoot sounds like the time of my life,” she replied sarcastically as she reached him, reaching out with her hand out to grab a hold of his hand. “Lead the way, Indy,” she teased. Of course. . . . She had no way of knowing if he would even get her reference to Indiana Jones. But it made her giggle on the inside.

( WISE MEN WONDER WHILE STRONG MEN DIE )show me how defenseless you really are Her reference of course went straight over his head. He simply assumed it was one of those silly pet names that humans liked to call one another. Agito too here hand, and began to lead her down through the tunnel. It was pitch black but they were well suited for seeing perfectly in this setting. The grinding sound of the boulder setting back into place faded as they traveled further down through the tunnel. A dim orange light could be seen from the far end. Once they got there the tunnel opened up into a huge cavern There were several building inside this cavern all carved from stone it was a large village inside what could be described as a hollowed out mountain. Agito paused as if slightly confused. The expression on his face clearly told that something was not right.
Agito gripped the handle of his sword loosely in his hand as he surveyed the area. The lamps were lit. Not only that, but all the bodies were gone. When he left this clearing was littered with bodies, now not a single one was in sight. There were no bones either, not even the faintest scent of decay. Agito began to move forward carefully. He let Carmen's hand slip from his as he walked. He made his way down the stone street towards the largest building at the center of the building, giving a careful glance to every dark doorway or window that they passed."This is where I was born...Impressive isn't it?" He asked as sarcastically as he stopped in front of the building, and glanced around some more.

CARMEN LYNN SYKES → WHAT HAPPENED TO MISS INDEPENDENT'S NO LONGER NEED TO BE DEFENSIVEMISS INDEPENDENT MISS SELF-SUFFICIENT MISS KEEP YOUR DISTANCE MISS UNAFRAID ← As she had thought, Agito didn’t get her joke. Carmen sighed quietly to herself and decided that she would make him watch one. Then maybe he’d understand how lame this all seemed to her. . . . Walking down a dark tunnel to some hidden civilization after finding some secret layer that had to be opened by some magic trigger. What was next? A giant, round boulder tumbling down the walkway, threatening to crush them? Or maybe it was some indigenous people with spears and blow guns chasing them away, yelling in their tongue in an attempt to murder them all. Carmen rolled her eyes and shook her head; she hadn’t seen that many movies, but when she did she sure couldn’t get them out of her head.
Hand-in-hand the couple trekked through the dark passageway. Carmen’s eyes adjusted quickly and she was having little trouble navigating, even though Agito was leading the way. The tunnel seemed to continue for quite a ways before it opened into something more roomy, and Carmen’s ice-blue eyes wandered, taking in everything for a moment before she glanced over at Agito. She was not unobservant, and her brow furrowed at his expression. The young vampire looked around, wondering what was so wrong with this scene in front of them. He commented on the area and Carmen followed him for a moment, her hand leaving his. “I suppose. Nothing impresses me very often though,” she muttered in response as she trailed after Agito, unsure of what else she possibly had to do.

( WISE MEN WONDER WHILE STRONG MEN DIE )show me how defenseless you really are Agito opened the door of the building and stepped inside. He looked around the main room for a bit. it was nostalgic his home. The apparent castle of this underground kingdom. He didn't bother going into any of the rooms, or upstairs. Rather he he followed a dark corridor downward. it was dark, but he could see perfectly. the torches on the walls had not been lit in quite some time it would seem. A musty damp spell rose up on the thick air from beneath. Agito got to the room on the bottom, and looked around. The scrolls and books here where still in decent condition but the damn air would destroy them over time. It didn't matter to him he already knew every bit of information from each of them. It was in the blood of his clan members after all. There was a collection of swords on the far wall. Agito approached it intently then paused in surprise. There were two missing. One he carried as his birthright and wore behind his back. The other he had returned to collect. yet it was not where it would be...where he left it."...impossible" he muttered as he stared at the empty display.

( WISE MEN WONDER WHILE STRONG MEN DIE )show me how defenseless you really are Agito turned to Carmen and opened his mouth to respond when a voice from above called down to them "so the prince has returned?". It was a familiar female voice. Agito made his way back up the corridor cautiously. The voice hadn't said anything else. Agito peered into the room before stepping out of the corridor. He knew this was bad. If that voice was who he thought it was then she could be anywhere. Unlike Agito who was trained in Kenjutsu with some ninjutsu concepts integrated. She had trained purely in the art of ninjutsu. Any shadow could be utilized. She wouldn't be seen until she wanted to be seen, and how much longer they managed to live after that depended on their skills. "be on guard...this just got infinitely more complicated" he stated as he awaited an attack that could come from anywhere. In this type of enviroment against "her" he was at a disadvantage.

CARMEN LYNN SYKES → WHAT HAPPENED TO MISS INDEPENDENT'S NO LONGER NEED TO BE DEFENSIVEMISS INDEPENDENT MISS SELF-SUFFICIENT MISS KEEP YOUR DISTANCE MISS UNAFRAID ← Carmen’s eyes scanned the little corridor as she followed Agito. There was someone else there? Some vacation this was going to turn out to be if they had fight some chick. Carmen looked at Agito for any sort of cues, and he definitely did not act like this was a long-lost best friend he hadn’t seen for ages. So much for the idea of a happy reunion. Not that the thought had ever crossed Carmen’s mind for more than just a second. She tended to assume the worst in most situations, but her analytical mind was always sifting through the different possibilities. It was why she was good at chess and had been labeled a genius since her eighth year of school.
Agio didn’t have to tell her to be careful. She glanced around the room and stayed a careful distance apart from Agito in case shit hit the fan. If she was right on top of him, neither of them would be able to move and that meant they wouldn’t fight well. Slowly, she removed her scarlet-handled blade from its sheathe and she scrutinized every inch of the room, taking a step back and pivoting on her heel to come back-to-back with Agito. Only a couple feet separated the two, a width big enough to maybe tightly fit a small person. Her blade hung at her side—no amount of training from Agito would make her break her habit of standing with no ready stance when about to fight.
“So. Is there going to be monologuing involved or can we just skip to the fight?” Carmen requested, sarcasm lacing her voice. When it came down to it, Carmen didn’t think letting the other person talk for fifty minutes before they fought was any sort of advantage until you could see where they were while they were talking. It was her opinion that it would be better if they just skipped the formalities and got down to brass tacks.

( WISE MEN WONDER WHILE STRONG MEN DIE )show me how defenseless you really are Agito didn't respond to Carmen, he didnt have to. Through the door he saw figure step out from between one of the buildings"I probably should have killed you both without revealing myself, but I'm curious to see if my replacement is any good. She smells so delightfully human....did you turn her Agito-sama? No, it seems that now your just picking up peoples leftovers.....you really have fallen haven't you my prince?"the figure stated. She was a tad shorter than Agito, and wore some skin tight, black leather pants, she wore nothing on her feet, and a tube like top that barely covered her breasts. Behind her back she worse a sword similar to the way Agito normally wore his, though instead of the grip being up near here shoulder, it actually pointed downward near her hip.
A smirk slipped onto Agito's face as he stepped out into the clearing. It was good like this if he could see here he stood a chance. "I thought you were trained better....showing yourself to an opponent, when your strength lies in stealth? not a very smart move" he responded, as if he ignored everything she had just said. Agito caught her glare, and his grin widened. If she wasn't focused then there wasn't anything to worry about. He just had to make sure that Carmen didn't end up fighting her. Carmen was good, but she was even older and though he hated to admit it probably better when it came to combat than Agito. If things got bad he hoped he could stall her long enough for Carmen to get away.
