CARMEN LYNN SYKES → WHAT HAPPENED TO MISS INDEPENDENT'S NO LONGER NEED TO BE DEFENSIVEMISS INDEPENDENT MISS SELF-SUFFICIENT MISS KEEP YOUR DISTANCE MISS UNAFRAID ← Their foe decided to show themselves and as the voice had indicated, there was not a little vampire girl sharing the room with them, sporting a similar sword to Agito’s. If she was on the same level as Agito combat-wise then she didn’t have anything to worry about. If she was worse than Agito then this would be over quickly. However, Carmen knew this woman posed a greater threat simply from analyzing her companion’s initial reaction to the other vampire’s presence. Carmen’s bright eyes scanned the area, familiarizing herself with it—no real furnishing, four walls and a door. Books and scrolls adorned shelves against the walls and on wall was dedicated to an assortment of swords. . . . A simple open arena for battle. Carmen locked the image away in her mind and listened to what the vampiress had to say.
“I probably should have killed you both without revealing myself, but I'm curious to see if my replacement is any good. She smells so delightfully human. . . . Did you turn her Agito-sama? No, it seems that now you’re just picking up peoples leftovers. . . . You really have fallen haven't you my prince?” she commented upon appearing in the room. Carmen narrowed her eyes at the replacement comment, but she didn’t think much of it. Agito was old. It made sense he had past lovers and there wasn’t any reason to get worked up over it or even bring it up later when they were visiting some other tourist attraction.
Agito had a response and Carmen sighed quietly to herself. “So there isn’t going to be a monologue. . . just witty banter. Well don’t let me stop you from having your little reunion moment, Agito-kun,” Carmen muttered under her breath. She stayed on alert and kept her muscles coiled and ready to retaliate if she had to. The young vampire wished that she knew a little something about the woman’s personal style, but it was what it was. She would try not to model her after Agito’s style and just adapt if the fight got out of hand. Carmen could already guess Agito was going to try his hardest to keep her from being in the fight anyway.

( WISE MEN WONDER WHILE STRONG MEN DIE )show me how defenseless you really are Agito Moved cautiously forward as the female eyed him with little concern. She ran on of her hands through her ebony hair as she watched him. "Your not going to introduce us before you try to kill me like you did everyone else?" she asked her gaze shifting to Carmen. Agito broke into a run as he closed the gap between them. A glint of silver flashed through the air as he went for the kill. The two were in close now the sound of the constant clanging of their blades had become so rapid that it merged into one consistent drone. A second blade that had been hidden barely missed Agito's jugular as he dodged backward "close call... guess your still not good eno....." Agito's statement was interrupted as a shallow slash opened up on his cheek. He couldn't remember taking a hit but the blood running down his cheek said otherwise.
"Your a lot slower than you used to be.... Like I was saying before I was rudely interrupted...I am Suzume....and I take it your Carmen, I may not be able to read Agito-kuns mind, but yours is like a billboard....so many interesting things.... and so much you don't know about Agito-kun" Suzume stated as he looked over at him. The look in his eyes told her that he was not pleased and wouldn't hesitate to kill her even with her being who she was. Either way she knew everything about them and Agito only knew what he knew from the past as he couldn't read her mind. Agito poised to attack again , but before he could Suzume dropped something cylindrical on the ground which caused a bright flash upon shattering, once the flash cleared she was gone once again. Agito rubbed his eyes and tried to locate her. He knew she was still nearby, and just like that they were at a disadvantage once again.

CARMEN LYNN SYKES → WHAT HAPPENED TO MISS INDEPENDENT'S NO LONGER NEED TO BE DEFENSIVEMISS INDEPENDENT MISS SELF-SUFFICIENT MISS KEEP YOUR DISTANCE MISS UNAFRAID ← Agito certainly didn't want to waste any time talking like Carmen thought the pair was going to do initially. He had been waiting for an opening, for a slip in her attention, which he had found when this vampire had looked at Carmen. The young vampire took that under consideration, wondering if that was just Agito's style or if that had to be used against this woman to the fullest. Whatever, she would figure it out as they went.
But they were fast. Carmen's muscles tensed as she readied herself in case someone broke from the pack to come at her, but they seemed intent on each other, the room filled with a constant ring of metal against metal. Carmen could see the majority of their movements, tracking and logging the way they moved, not even noticing that she was doing it or that her arms were twitching in response like an athlete when they were watching someone else play their sport. Whether or not speed was gained from age or experience would be found if Carmen jumped in the fray.
It wasn't long before the grappling ended and the two were parted, Agito wounded. Carmen didn't respond to the slash he had received with either anger or concern. There was no need for such emotions, and she wasn't afraid for Agito's welfare; the young vampire focused only on the other vampiress, and she rolled her eyes at what she had to say. The old bitchy Carmen was back.
"I see how it is. It's only 'Agito-sama' until I call him 'Agito-kun' and then it's okay for you to call him that. And I don't give two shits what you can read in my mind. Don't try to intimidate me because nothing you do will scare me," Carmen retorted sourly, one of her hands going to her hip as she held her sword at her side. She could honestly claim not to be afraid, too. Let this little Asian chick think what she wanted to of the comment, if she could read her mind then she would know that Carmen was telling the truth.
Then all Carmen saw was white. She moved her head away from the light and covered her eyes with her empty hand, and when the light faded she lowered her arm, looking around, eyes narrowed and squinting as they adjusted and recovered from the flash grenade. "Fucking ninjas and their cheap tricks," she muttered, locating Agito and then scanning the room. "Not good enough for hand-to-hand. . . . Buncha cowards."

( WISE MEN WONDER WHILE STRONG MEN DIE )show me how defenseless you really are Rubbing his hand across the cut on his cheek Agito shifted his gaze to the blood smeared on the back of his palm. She's a lot better than she used to be he thought to himself before looking over at Carmen. He wondered if she would be okay. She was strong to, but Suzume had centuries of training where as Carmen has the training that he's given her since they met. between them. Agito sheathed his sword. He knew Suzume very well. They were okay for now. She would wait a while before she tried anything again. As long as they didn't try to leave while she worked out here plan they would be okay. Plus she obviously knew what Agito had came here for. Granted they could leave without it. Even if they tried to leave they wouldn't be able to. If he knew Suzume she'd be watching the exit closely. For now the best thing to do would be to stay put and formulate a plan.I shouldn't Have brought you with me... if something happens to you..."Agito stated regrettably. He could barely beat Suzume back when he trained everyday. Now that he's been slacking in America. He was worried that he may not be able to.

CARMEN LYNN SYKES → WHAT HAPPENED TO MISS INDEPENDENT'S NO LONGER NEED TO BE DEFENSIVEMISS INDEPENDENT MISS SELF-SUFFICIENT MISS KEEP YOUR DISTANCE MISS UNAFRAID ← Carmen gave Agito a rather irritated look but it passed after a few seconds. Hadn’t he told her that he’d killed everyone in their clan thingy? Geez he must not have been very thorough when he was massacring his fellow family members. One would think that if you were going to do such a thing you would make sure to be rid of survivors to nullify any rogue family members that would want some sort of revenge. At least that’s what Carmen would have done. . . .
It probably wasn’t a very good thing that she was thinking that way, but at least she could accept what Agito had done. She figured it wasn’t much of a big deal, anyway. He had a very good reason to kill them, and if he wanted to kill her. . . well, she’d like to see him try.
As Agito sheathed his own blade, Carmen mirrored the move, figuring that he would know best what to do and if he was sheathing his sword, then that meant that he thought it was rather safe for the time being. The young vampire walked over to him, one hand moving to her hip as she reached him and slowed to a stop. “So. Killed everyone did you? Seems to me like you missed one!” she commented sarcastically, on the verge of teasing. One of her eyebrows was raised and she didn’t look very amused by the situation at hand, but she didn’t look very nervous about it either. Just. . . irritated.
It was just one more obstacle they would have to pass in the days of their lives. But geez would it have killed him to double-check the ranks?
Her vampire companion expressed distress and Carmen merely rolled her eyes, taking one of Agito’s hands in both of hers. “Agito-kun, I love you, but stop being such a wuss,” she said as delicately as she could manage with being who she was. Patting the top of his hand, she let it drop and replaced one of her own on her hip. “I’ll be perfectly fine. Some little ninjette isn’t going to be enough to get rid of me. So long as you don’t fuck up royally, you’re stuck with me.”
One of Carmen’s rare smiles exposed itself and she turned to head for the exit. “Now let’s just leave and come back later, unless the thing you need to get is still in here, which I’m assuming it’s probably not. . . ,” she deduced, turning to look over her shoulder, hand resting on the hilt of her sword.

( WISE MEN WONDER WHILE STRONG MEN DIE )show me how defenseless you really are Agito listened to Carmen as she spoke, but didn't make any effort to head towards the exit. Suzume was probably watching and biding here time right now. They wouldn't be able to simply leave until she was disabled. Plus Agito needed to rest a bit as he was sure Suzume did as well. There were limits on even these immortal bodies of theirs. The had just fought at a pace that most vampires could never dream of achieving. A blur of continuous high speed movement. Though the fight seemed short the number of attacks made during that perior of time must have been in the low hundreds. "She would let us leave...I have to beat her.....worse case scenario I take her with me....If that happens just use my blood it'll open the passage....." Agito stated as he removed the eye-patch from his face and tossed it aside.
His eye seemed to no longer hold any of its odd features probably because of his lack of vampire blood. It now completely matched the other. He tossed it aside and leaned against one of the walls. His muscles had almost fully recovered by this point. If they got back into melee combat he doubted if they would push the pace that high again. Those speeds were better saved for dodging or deflecting and attack that you couldn't have otherwise. An ominous feeling plagued Agito at this moment, he didn't know what it was but it was unpleasant. As if he was anticipating his death.

CARMEN LYNN SYKES → WHAT HAPPENED TO MISS INDEPENDENT'S NO LONGER NEED TO BE DEFENSIVEMISS INDEPENDENT MISS SELF-SUFFICIENT MISS KEEP YOUR DISTANCE MISS UNAFRAID ← Carmen turned to face Agito. She wasn’t going to let them leave? Well she’d like to see the bitch fucking try. The young vampire didn’t really give a shit what kind of training this little Japanese thing went through! She eyed the door appraisingly and looked around the room. There was hardly anywhere for her to hide in that room. Fuck that shit she was going to get out of this dump.
Sighing, Carmen strolled over to her companion. She was about tired of this pessimistic attitude of his! Right as she reached him, Carmen very nearly slapped the man across the face, but she had better control over her violent tendencies now and she lowered her poised hand and instead she took him by the shoulders and shook him comically. “Listen here, you. I know I don’t fully understand what the fuck is going on here or the that bitch is, but you. Are not. Going. To. Die. Okay? Now shut up. We’re leaving.”
One part brave and three parts stupid—well, Carmen was a very intelligent girl, but her inability to be afraid made her do things regular people thought incredibly stupid. But Carmen was a chess player, and she hardly ever made a move that she hadn’t planned ahead of time or had a purpose for. Hand on the hilt of her sword, not caring if Agito was going to follow her or not, she walked toward the exit. . . and nothing Agito could say to her was going to keep her from walking right on out of there.

( WISE MEN WONDER WHILE STRONG MEN DIE )show me how defenseless you really are Agito and unstrapped his sword so that he could remove his jacket. The clasped the sheath behing his back once more. Carmen was young and sometimes painfully ignorant. Agito hurried to catch upto here walking besided her for a moment. Suddenly he grasp her shoulder in his hand stopping her in her tracks. Tossing the jacket ahead in the direction of where they were walking. the jacked met with some odd resistance as it floated through the air. "That was my favorite one too" Agito muttered solemnly as the jacked fell to the floor as nothing more than ribbons of cloth."Razor wire....its her favore toy...walk into it accidentally and you head can roll right off your shoulders before you even feel anything. Just be patient. She's trying to buy time to think. Fighting me was always hard for her. She's come back to finish what she started soon...in the mean time watch your step there bound to be other traps" he stated as he sheathed his sword. The motion of the draw and swing had been so fast and fluid that it would have been impossible for even Carmen to notice. With that the nest of Razor Wire ahead of them was snapped, but Agito knew that there would be worst traps than that around

CARMEN LYNN SYKES → WHAT HAPPENED TO MISS INDEPENDENT'S NO LONGER NEED TO BE DEFENSIVEMISS INDEPENDENT MISS SELF-SUFFICIENT MISS KEEP YOUR DISTANCE MISS UNAFRAID ← Annoyed, Carmen shot Agito a glare as he brought her to a halt. Did he really want them to just sit there and wait for what’s-her-face to come back and attack them? He tossed his jacket ahead of them and Carmen watched with neutral curiosity as it was shredded into a few pieces. Huh. Well that was an interesting development. Sighing, Carmen looked over at Agito and pulled away from him, her hands on her hips. Razor wire, was it?
She glanced at the only exit and narrowed her eyes. “First of all, when the fuck did she get the chance to set that shit there?” she began, sound neither angered nor annoyed at this. She was merely gathering information at this point in time. “And second, aren’t vampires a little more sturdy? Unless she somehow found a person that makes razor wire out of silver or something. . . . All of this just seems very unlikely!” Hands on her hips, she watched the area to make sure that there was nothing else going on
Her companion told her to her watch her step and Carmen just sighed and stepped to the side a little bit, waving her hand forward. What was the point in making her lead if he was just going to stop her every few seconds to tell her about one trap or another? “Well considering it’s not in my nature to look before I leap, you better go first,” she said, putting her hands on her hips. Sometimes she wondered if either of them really thought about anything. “Otherwise I’ll get myself hurt and you’ll feel bad and I’ll just tell you to suck it up or you’ll have to keep stopping me and I’ll just keep getting annoyed. . . so it would just be better this way.”

( WISE MEN WONDER WHILE STRONG MEN DIE )show me how defenseless you really are Agito shrugged and followed Carmen's suggestion. They walked carefully in the direction the the entrance. Agito paid careful attention to their surroundings as they moved. After all he didn't know what other traps she could have set. The traps he found on the way weren't too bad. Mostly just razor wire nets. They were hard to see however even for him. If he had been walking any faster he'd have walked into them multiple times. They turned down the final corridor towards the entrance. Agito paused about half way and looked around suspiciously "Shit..." he stated as he shoved Carmen as hard of he could back the way they had came.
The wall right besides Agito exploded showering the corridor with dust and debris. Thanks to Agito Carmen would be relatively unharmed but as for him. There was a large pile of rubble blocking any forward progression. What was worse was Agito was no where to be seen. He had been standing right at ground zero of the explosion. Any number of things could have happened. He could have been crushed by the debris or killed by the blast or maybe just knocked to the other side of the blockage.
"My My if he didn't save you he would have avoided that, He probably wasn't killed by just that so don't worry your pretty little face." the voice came from the other edge of the corridor where Agito and Carmen had came from. "This isn't so bad really...it gives us girls some time to to ourselves." the words were spoken in friendly manner but the sinister meaning in them was very clear. The corridor was still dusty from the explosion and made visibility hard but the voice wasn't hard to distinguish.

CARMEN LYNN SYKES → WHAT HAPPENED TO MISS INDEPENDENT'S NO LONGER NEED TO BE DEFENSIVEMISS INDEPENDENT MISS SELF-SUFFICIENT MISS KEEP YOUR DISTANCE MISS UNAFRAID ← Agito took her advice and started to walk in front of her through the corridors, playing the part of the cautious one. If Carmen was in front, she probably would have just been forging recklessly ahead, eager to just get the hell out of here. She was an impatient young lady and wanted things to be done quickly and with as little effort as possible, and his slow, tentative pace was maddening, but she remained quiet, understanding the need for her partner to be thorough. Already he had found several traps, and Carmen was still incredibly skeptical. When had that lady vampire had the time to think out these traps and then set them up? It didn’t make any sense to her, but she accepted that it might just be because she was new to this life.
Her smoldering gaze remained locked on the path ahead while Agito remained cognitive of their surroundings, ever alert for something that might be hiding in the shadows—or even in the light. They had to stop every now and again so Agito could purge the hall of some trip wire or other that would do something to harm them, and it just irritated Carmen, even though she knew it had to be done. It was just the way she was. At least one of them was looking out for their own well being. . . god knew Carmen never looked out for anyone’s well being, even her own. She was programmed for diving in head first and that wasn’t going to change.
When Agito finally came to another stop, Carmen sighed and crossed her arms over her chest, tapping her foot impatiently against the tile, the gently tap tap tap the only thing heard in the silence before Agito’s curse wafted into the air, reaching Carmen’s ear milliseconds later and causing her to unfurl her arms from where they sat impatiently against her chest. Before she could get out a response, though, Agito had turned and was shoving her backwards. She let out a little squeal of surprise and hit the ground hard on her shoulder, sliding slightly across the slick ground as rubble and debris fell around her, hitting parts of her body and only proving to piss her off further. Had that bitch really set up some sort of explosive? Really? God how Carmen hated people.
Scrambling to her feet, Carmen coughed the dust from her lungs and waved her hands in front of her to clear it from around her face as she peered in the direction of where Agito had been. There was a giant mass of rubble in front of here where Agito had been standing seconds before and she narrowed her eyes. “Agito-kun?” she called neutrally, stepping forward and setting her palm against the rocks that were piled to the ceiling. Was he okay? Trapped on the other side? Burried? Crushed under the debris? Carmen’s dead heart fluttered only slightly in her chest, remnants of muscle memory from her human life. Was he dead? Why. . . why couldn’t she bring herself to feel something other than anger at his sacrifice? She should be sad, worried, terrified even that the man she claimed to love might be dead now. . . .
But she didn’t feel anything but anger—and now she was even more pissed off because that was all she could feel. She felt a general feeling of sadness that she might not be able to see him, but something more prominent than that just didn’t care either. Like it had expected this and she wasn’t surprised, she wasn’t scared. . . she just. . . was. “Dammit Agito. . . look what you got yourself into,” she muttered, resting her fist against the stones that blocked her path, eyes narrowed and brows knit.
The voice of the lady vampire surprised her, but she didn’t flinch or jump, she merely turned around slowly. Now she had somewhere to focus her anger. She couldn’t see the figure, but she could hear her, and that was good enough to face her in the general direction of where the lady was. “I’m not worried,” she replied flatly, acid lacing her voice. She should have been. Carmen should have been wracked with guilt and fear, but there was almost nothing. “And what makes you think I’d want to spend any time with you, bitch?” She was seething, and though she knew this girl probably had all the rights in the world to be mad at Again, Carmen wasn’t going to stand for this. An eye for an eye leaves the world blind. It had been god knew how many centuries. . . get over it.
